Chapter 5: One More Job
At Roger Room bar, A bunch of Salvatore's men are drinking, music is playing, and Frank is still tied up with Richard sitting next to him with a gun in his hand, singing in sync. At that moment Jason kicks open the door and walks in, stopping the music. As the men inside stop what they're doing to look at him, Jason just smirks.
"So... Who's buying?" Jason asks while Frank smiles.
A few minutes later Jason sits a table, drinking a glass of scotch, surrounded by multiple unconscious men. As Richard has a shocked expression on his face, his father soon walks in. Jason puts down a glass and kicks open a chair for Marco Salvatore to sit. Marco smirks, sitting down.
"Not really smart to come alone." Marco says, pouring himself a glass of scotch.
Jason smirks.
"That's what they thought." Jason replies, referring to the unconscious men at his feet..
The two then stare each other down for a moment.
"You killed four of my men. You didn't actually think I'd just let that go, did you?" Marco asks.
"Well I thought that would make us even for the whole trying to kill me thing." Jason replies.
Marco sighs.
"I'll admit, my son acted very unreasonably. But we gave you money for a job. A job that wasn't done." Marco says.
Jason sighs.
"Alright, look. I can't kill Brian Miller. But there has to be something I can do to fix this situation."
Marco thinks to himself for a moment.
"You know, last night you killed the best assassin we had in our organization." Marco says.
Jason scoffs.
"He wasn't that great." Jason says under his breath.
"Lucky for us both, he had a job to do tonight. He was supposed to kill a former business associate. Not some civilian, like Brian Miller, this guys a real piece of shit. Now, you're going to kill him for us." Marco says.
"Not interested." Jason says.
"Why not?"
"Multiple reasons really, but let's start with the obvious one. You tried to have me killed and I kinda have a problem with people doing that." Jason says.
Marco shrugs it off.
"Water under the bridge. Richard feels terrible about it. Don't you, son?" Marco says.
"Oh yeah, just awful. Just broken to pieces." Richard says.
Jason sighs.
"I have something important to do tonight." Jason says.
"You can do it after your done with the job. It won't take long."
Jason stays silent for a moment.
"And what if I don't want to kill anyone anymore?" Jason asks.
Marco stays silent for a moment before laughing.
"No. I can see it in your eyes, your first instinct is to kill. It's who you are." Marco says.
Jason doesn't respond for a moment.
"I'm serious... I don't want to be that guy anymore." Jason says.
Marco leans foward towards Jason.
"You'll always be that guy, kid. People can't change who they are deep inside. But the way I see it... you have two choices. You either do the job for us. Or we kill you and your mentor. Right here. Right now."
Jason thinks for a moment, being put in a tough position. He looks over at Frank, scared and helpless, then sighs and glares at Marco.
"Fine. I'll do it. But when it's done, we're done. You Understand me? No more jobs. We go our separate ways."
Marco nods.
"Fine by me."
"And Brian Miller is off limits." Jason says.
Marco stays silent for a moment.
"You're asking me to swallow a pretty big pill here." Marco says.
"Better that, than a bullet." Jason replies.
The two have a tense stare down for a moment before Marco smirks.
"Fine. But we will be holding onto Frank until it's done. So get to it." Marco says.
Jason smiles through his frustration.
"Alright. But if hurt him. Or kill him. I swear to God, I'll comeback here... and I'll kill every single one of you. You understand me?" Jason says.
Everyone, even Marco Salvatore himself, gets a cold chill down their spine when Jason says his threat even if they don't want to admit it.
"He cares about you. That's nice." Richard whispers to Frank.
Marco then hands Jason a picture and a address.
"His name is Antonio Melbourne. He'll be at home any moment so you better hurry." Marco says.
Jason gets up from his chair and leaves the bar. Meanwhile, Hailey is trying to pick an outfit for the party tonight when her dad walks into her room.
"Hey, pumpkin."
"Hey, dad. What's up?" Hailey says.
Terry let's out a sigh.
"Look, I know you wanted to go to this party tonight, but until we find who kill those men, there's a curfew." He says.
Hailey is very disappointed when she hears this.
"What? Dad, come on. I promise I'll be careful."
"Not as careful as you would be in the house. Look, kid those guys are connected to the most dangerous crime family in the city. And I don't want you getting in the middle of the cross fire."
Hailey stays silent for a moment, then groans because she was really looking forward to seeing Jason.
"Fine. I'll stay home tonight." Hailey says.
Terry smiles at his daughter.
"Love you, pumpkin." He says.
"Love you too, dad."
Later that night, while her dad snores loudly, Hailey quietly sneaks over to the front door.
"What are you doing?" A tiny voice says.
Hailey turns around and sees her little sister, Emily, standing there watching. Hailey smiles at her little sister, then kneels down and puts her hands on her shoulders.
"Hey. I'm going out for a little while, but I promise I'll be right back, ok?" Hailey whispers.
"Ok." Emily replies.
When Emily walks back to her room, Hailey quickly and quietly walks out of the door. Meanwhile, Jason has a sniper rifle set up and has been waiting for the perfect shot for three hours. He looks at his watch and sees that the party is about to start. He then gets a text from Hailey that she might be a little late but she'll definitely be there, and that she was excited to spend time with him. The text makes Jason smile, then makes him determined.
"Fuck this." Jason says.
He abandons his spot and walks towards the house. While Antonio is in the kitchen, Jason quickly barges surprising him.
"Who the hell are you?"
"That's not important right now." Jason replies.
Antonio quickly grabs a knife and goes to stab Jason. Jason easily avoids, grabbing him by the wrist, and slams his elbow down on his arm, snapping it. Before he can scream out in pain, Jason punches him in the throat and then puts him in a choke hold, strangling him to death. Antonio tries to struggle free but soon starts to slow down. After he stops moving for awhile, Jason throws his body to the ground and quickly leaves to go to the party. Back with Hailey, she is waiting outside the party for Jason. She tries texting him for the second time but he doesn't answer again. At that moment, Jason pulls up to the party at full speed on his bike, causing Hailey to smile. Jason gets off his bike and runs over to Hailey.
"Hey. Sorry I'm late, there was something stupid I had to do." Jason says.
Hailey smiles, grabbing Jason's hand.
"You're here now. That's all that matters." She says.
The two smile at each other and then head inside to party.
