Chapter 44: The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [44]
"'All things in this world can be accomplished by mortals'?"
Lumine quietly repeated Jia Changjiang's words, reflecting on the strange god who had called herself the "Sustainer of Heavenly Principles" when she and her brother had tried to leave this world.
Could facing such an opponent… also be considered something mortals could achieve?
Diluc, on the other hand, was momentarily stunned by Jia Changjiang's bold declaration. However, he quickly composed himself, concealing his surprise.
"Such audacious words," Diluc said, addressing Jia Changjiang. "I don't know whether to call you arrogant or brave."
"Hah, those are just my honest feelings. Although, they do sound a bit like lofty ideals," Jia Changjiang admitted with a grin. "But words alone won't cut it—I'll prove it through my actions."
"Now, let's hurry back. We shouldn't keep Jean and Venti waiting."
---
"Huh? It looks like you've already returned with the Holy Lyre," Venti said as Jia Changjiang and the others entered the tavern.
The bard's eyes lit up as he sensed the lyre's presence. Taking it into his hands, he sighed with nostalgia.
"What a familiar feeling…"
"So, Venti," Jean asked, "can it be used to call Dvalin?"
"No…"
Venti shook his head, letting go of the lyre. The Holy Lyre floated in midair, its strings shimmering faintly.
"Although this is indeed the genuine Holy Lyre der Himmel, its Anemo energy has long since faded over the millennia. In its current state… it might be better suited to earning a few Mora from drunkards at Master Diluc's tavern."
"Hey! Bard!" Paimon scolded, hands on her hips. "You borrowed the Holy Lyre to play for drunkards?!"
Venti stuck out his tongue playfully. "Ehe~☆"
"What does 'ehe' even mean?!" Paimon stomped her tiny foot in the air, thoroughly annoyed.
"In any case, this won't be enough to communicate with Dvalin," Venti explained, shaking his head. "Lumine, do you still have the crystallized Tears of Dvalin?"
"Hm? Yes, I do," Lumine replied, pulling the tear from her bag.
"Try placing it on the lyre's strings."
"Traveler would never part with something so valuable!" Paimon interjected, but before she could finish, Lumine confidently placed the crystallized tear onto the Holy Lyre.
"Eh? Traveler, are you okay?! This isn't like you!" Paimon exclaimed in shock.
In her mind, Lumine thought to herself: I said I wouldn't let anyone else suffer separation again…
As the tear fused with the lyre, faint currents of Anemo energy began swirling around its strings. It seemed to regain some of its vitality, as if rejuvenated.
"It's working," Venti said with a smile. "But it's still far from fully restored. If we could gather more of Dvalin's tears…"
"How about I make Dvalin cry by fighting him? Would those tears work to restore the lyre?" Lumine asked, unsheathing her sword as if ready to act.
"That's definitely not how it works!" Paimon cried.
"Dvalin is likely still crying now," Venti said softly, his expression heavy with sorrow. "Suffering alone in a desolate place, far from anyone who can help him."
"Let's focus on what's actionable," Jia Changjiang interjected, cutting through the somber mood. "Our task is to gather enough of Dvalin's tears, right? Finding them may be like searching for a needle in a haystack, but we'll manage somehow."
Jean nodded firmly. "This is a matter that concerns all of Mondstadt. We'll do whatever it takes."
"Ah, how wonderful," Venti remarked with a renewed smile. "Heroes relying on one another, embarking on a journey together—it's always so enchanting."
"Wait a second!" Paimon huffed, narrowing her eyes. "Are you planning to sit this one out?"
"Of course not. Playing the lyre takes hands, you know~"
"Ugh! So infuriating!" Paimon exclaimed. "I'm giving you a bad nickname! From now on, you're… The Tone-Deaf Bard!"
---
In the following days, the group split up to search for Dvalin's tears.
Jean, in her spare time, tracked down rumors and eventually pinpointed a lead at the Temple of the Thousand Winds.
Diluc, using his extensive network, discovered that there might be clues in the ruins known as the Eagle's Gate.
As for Jia Changjiang and Lumine…
As soon as the task was set, Jia Changjiang's long-dormant system chimed in with a mission:
Retrieve a crystallized tear of Dvalin being kept by the Hilichurls in Dadaupa Gorge.
The system marked the exact location of the tear, offering a curious reward:
"Three Mermaid Tears."
Jia Changjiang was stunned.
The reward wasn't a skill or tool but a mysterious item.
[Mermaid Tears: A miraculous remedy that cures any poison. Priceless, beyond compare.]
"Priceless, you say? Interesting…" Jia muttered, intrigued by the reward. He highly doubted "priceless" meant a mere ten thousand Mora.
"Mermaid Tears… Are these the mythical kind?"
Resolving to secure the tear and see the reward for himself, Jia Changjiang prepared to head out.
With their objectives clear, the group divided once more.
Jean headed for the Temple of the Thousand Winds, Diluc for the Eagle's Gate, and Jia Changjiang invited Lumine to accompany him to the Hilichurl tribe in Dadaupa Gorge.
"Huh? Going to Dadaupa Gorge to collect Dvalin's tears? Sure, I'm in!" Lumine replied cheerfully. "I'll pick up an Adventurers' Guild commission to clear out Hilichurls along the way. Might as well make some Mora!"
"Should we bring another adventuring party to help us?" Lumine suggested. "I heard the Bennett Adventure Team is reliable and super affordable."
"Bennett?!"
Jia Changjiang shook his head vigorously. "This is important. It's best if it's just the two of us."
"Oh…"
Lumine nodded, not pressing further.
With their destination set, Jia Changjiang and Lumine began their journey to Dadaupa Gorge, specifically to the Hilichurl tribe known as the Black Sun Tribe.
Meanwhile, deep within Dadaupa Gorge, a Hydro Abyss Mage surrounded by a shimmering water shield had begun rallying the Hilichurls under its command…
