Chapter 43: The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [43]
"Oh no! Mr. Jax is fighting the Fatui!"
Paimon clung to Lumine's arm, shaking it frantically. "We need to go help him!"
"No need to worry," Diluc said calmly, crossing his arms as he stood in the tunnel. "Jia Changjiang may have a peculiar personality, but his combat skills are undeniable. He doesn't have a Vision, and unlike you, he can't use elemental powers, but…"
Diluc's voice carried a trace of respect. "Anyone who's fought him knows the sheer oppressive force he brings to a battle. It feels as though your every move is being read. His mastery of combat is exceptional."
He glanced upward, then continued, "Still, the situation is urgent. Let's go assist him."
With a powerful leap, Diluc exited the tunnel through the opening.
"No elemental powers… Paimon, are there many people like Jia Changjiang in this world?" Lumine asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Uh… there are people without Visions who can grow strong through training or other methods, but those kinds of people are really rare," Paimon explained. "While not all strong people have Visions, most of the strongest individuals do."
"I see…"
Lumine pondered this as she leapt out of the tunnel as well.
The moment she emerged, she was greeted by the sight of Jia Changjiang wielding his massive axe with ferocious precision. The Fatui Pyro Agent before him, armed with short blades, was cornered and barely holding on.
Every attempt the Pyro Agent made to escape or go invisible was immediately countered, his path blocked by the crushing weight of Jia's axe.
As for Diluc, he stood guard by the door, ensuring no reinforcements could enter. The Holy Lyre der Himmel had already been secured in Jia Changjiang's system inventory.
Lumine's eyes lit up as she rolled up her sleeves and ran toward Jia Changjiang. "Count me in!"
The Pyro Agent, battered and disarmed, could only cower in the corner, his short blades broken and his will to fight extinguished.
"Oh, Lumine! Don't hold back—get a few hits in!" Jia Changjiang stepped aside slightly, making room for her. "You take that side, I'll take this side!"
Diluc, stationed by the door, couldn't help but glance over at the scene. The sight of two outlanders gleefully pummeling a cornered Pyro Agent left even him feeling a flicker of sympathy for the Fatui operative.
"That's for walking so quietly! That's for calling me a rat!" Jia Changjiang roared as he rained punches and kicks on the Pyro Agent.
"And this is for bullying Acting Grand Master Jean!" Lumine added, her pale fists landing one blow after another.
Finally, Diluc decided he had seen enough and called out to them. "Enough. We've been here long enough, and our mission is complete. It's time to leave."
"Fine."
Jia Changjiang relented, pulling Lumine back as well. He grabbed the Pyro Agent by the collar with one hand and hoisted him up, slamming him against the wall.
Years of challenging commissions had honed Jia Changjiang's strength far beyond that of an ordinary adventurer.
"Listen up, Fatui. I'm not interested in your organization or your schemes. I don't care for your so-called power."
He tightened his grip, his expression calm but terrifying to the Pyro Agent.
"What I do want is a worthy opponent."
Jia Changjiang's tone remained steady, though the Pyro Agent could feel the immense weight of his words.
"Tell the Lady that I welcome trouble—especially trouble from the Fatui. If you come for me, I won't complain. I enjoy fighting."
He leaned in closer.
"I may not have a Vision, but that doesn't make me weak. Bring as many as you want—two, five, or even an army."
Jia Changjiang released his grip, letting the Pyro Agent crumple to the ground.
"As for the dragon of the East Wind—Dvalin—it's my chosen opponent. I plan to save it from its madness before your people can kill it."
"You… You're defying the Fatui!" the Pyro Agent croaked, clutching his throat. "The Lady will punish you! She'll make your fate into a tale of terror, a nightmare for children to fear!"
"And what of it?" Jia Changjiang crouched down, staring directly into the defeated man's eyes.
"What can you do to me? Send fighters? How many? Two? Five? An entire legion?"
He smirked.
"Or will you send one of your Harbingers to deal with me?"
"Bring them on!"

On the way back to Diluc's tavern, the usually composed nobleman broke the silence.
"Those words you said earlier… they weren't just for the Fatui, were they?" Diluc's sharp eyes focused on Jia Changjiang.
"You wanted to prove your stance to us as well."
Jia Changjiang didn't deny it, though he remained quiet for a moment.
"Why?" Diluc pressed, his tone filled with genuine curiosity.
Lumine and Paimon turned to Jia Changjiang, their interest piqued.
"…Because I owe someone a favor," Jia finally admitted. "A big one. They saved my life once, and this is my way of repaying that debt."
He paused, glancing up at Mondstadt's starlit sky.
"I love Mondstadt. I love its wind and its wine. And here, I've made a few friends I actually care about."
Reaching into his system inventory, Jia Changjiang retrieved the Holy Lyre der Himmel and held it up to inspect it.
"I enjoy fighting, but that doesn't mean my life is only about battle. People change, and so do beliefs."
He handed the lyre to Lumine, signaling her to hold onto it.
"Someone like me, with my messy, impure motivations, will never be granted a Vision like you or Diluc."
Turning to face Diluc, Jia Changjiang smiled.
"Diluc, a friend once told me about a legend in this world…"
"Those with a Vision have the chance to ascend to Celestia and gain the power of a god. But as for me? I'm just a mortal."
He straightened, his smile widening.
"But even a mortal can achieve extraordinary things."
Looking at Lumine, Paimon, and Diluc, he declared:
"All things in this world can be accomplished by mortals!"
