Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Jealous of Myself, Eating My Own Vinegar
The next morning, as usual, Peter hopped into his neighbor George's car after breakfast.
"Peter, don't worry. The NYPD has the ability to keep you safe. We've already deployed our forces across the city."
A few days ago, Midtown Tech High had been attacked by the Green Goblin, and Peter had slept for two days straight. George thought he must have been traumatized.
"I'm fine, Uncle George."
Gwen, sitting in the back of the police car, listened to their conversation but didn't feel like chiming in.
Thanks to her superpowers, her physical abilities had improved dramatically. The wound on her back from the Rhino had already scabbed over.
At the same time, she was thinking about something else.
Peter, that big idiot!!
Last time at Peter's house, he had treated her wound so tenderly and acted so caring.
But she had been wearing her mask at the time!!!
It wasn't until she got home that Gwen realized—Peter had shifted his affection!
In the past, Peter had never shown any interest in dating her.
But Gwen had always thought it was only a matter of time.
Yet, he had been so gentle with a masked woman of unknown origin!!
Even though that woman was herself!
Gwen crossed her arms, her golden hair looking especially beautiful, though her face showed a hint of jealousy.
Yes, she was jealous of herself.
But she couldn't say anything. It wasn't like she could show up in her Spider-Woman suit, walk into Peter's room, rip off her mask, and surprise him.
"Gwen, you seem a bit off today."
As her father, George noticed that Gwen wasn't her usual self.
"Am I prettier than usual?"
"My daughter has always been beautiful. Don't you think so, Peter?"
Peter nodded.
"Yeah, Gwen's really popular at school. I remember people were already chasing after her when we first started high school."
George smiled at this.
"So, Peter, you'd better step up your game."
Gwen's fair face turned bright red.
"Dad!"
This made Peter feel a bit awkward.
George was basically telling him to go after his daughter right in front of him.
He really trusted Peter.
Peter turned to look at Gwen, who playfully stuck out her tongue at him.
Suddenly, she froze.
"Peter, where are your glasses?!"
Gwen had felt something was off earlier but couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Now she realized—Peter's glasses were gone.
Once she noticed this difference, more changes became apparent.
"You've also gotten taller and more muscular!"
"What's going on, Peter?!"
In Gwen's memory, Peter had always been frail, the type who could eat endlessly without gaining weight.
He wasn't tall either, even a bit shorter than her.
"Dad, pull over for a second."
At his daughter's reminder, George also noticed the changes in Peter.
Gwen got out of the police car and pulled Peter out with her.
Standing side by side, Peter was now a full head taller than her.
His posture was also more upright.
If Peter were a plant, he used to be a wilted eggplant, but now he was a towering tree!
He was no longer the shrunken high school student he used to be.
"Peter, what's going on?"
George asked with concern. He had never seen anything like this before.
Well, not exactly.
When George was a kid, he had seen posters of Captain America.
He had gone from a weak soldier to a powerful warrior.
Unfortunately, his plane had crashed, and he was presumed dead.
Ever since Peter got the system and acquired the Yan Shuangying template, he had anticipated that people would notice the changes.
So, he had already prepared a response.
"I don't know what happened. Maybe I was so scared after the Green Goblin attacked the school that I slept for two days straight. When I woke up, I was like this."
Gwen and her father exchanged glances, digesting their surprise.
Could that really happen?!
Gwen looked at Peter now, unable to hide the joy in her eyes.
She used to think she wasn't shallow, that handsome guys couldn't catch her attention.
But now, it seemed she was pretty shallow after all…
Her eyes couldn't help but wander over Peter's face.
The current Peter was really full of masculine charm!
"Uncle George, let's keep going. The road near the school gets really congested!"
George nodded.
"Get in!"
Leaning back in the passenger seat, Peter subtly steered the conversation toward the Rhino.
"Uncle George, do you have any leads on that Rhino guy who robbed the bank?"
Hearing this, George's expression darkened.
"No idea. All we know is that the guy in the metal armor is Russian. As for where he is now, no one knows."
"I've fought him before. That guy's wearing a metal suit that bullets can't penetrate."
"Even if we knew his location, we'd need a detailed plan of attack."
"Otherwise, there'd be heavy casualties."
"Last time, one of my colleagues died at his hands."
Peter nodded and didn't say anything more.
He hadn't read many comics in his past life, so he didn't know much about the Rhino.
But one thing was certain—he had hurt Gwen, and he would pay for it!
