The truth behind the power

Chapter 10: Chapter 9

With effort, James approached the corpse of Kadabra that still lay on the cave floor. The egg he held in his hands was a promise of life amidst death. "I must make sure it's okay," he murmured to himself, feeling a mix of determination and sadness. He slowly crouched down, extending his hand toward the egg with distinctive patterns that he recognized as a small Abra.

However, just as his fingers were about to touch the surface of the egg, a psychic energy began to emanate from Kadabra's lifeless body. A bright flash illuminated the cave, and before James could react, he was pushed back by an invisible force.

In that critical moment, Cheshire, his Gengar, emerged from the shadows. With surprising agility, he slid toward James and caught him before he could hit a sharp rock. "Thank you, buddy!" James exclaimed as he recovered from the impact. He looked at the egg and then at Kadabra; the scene was heart-wrenching. The psychic energy seemed to be protecting the egg even after the Pokémon's death.

"It's as if Kadabra is trying to protect its child," James thought with a mix of awe and sorrow. The connection between mother and child was palpable even in this tragic end. With renewed determination, he knew he had to do everything possible to ensure the future of the little Abra that had yet to see the light of day.

With trembling hands, James picked up the Abra egg, feeling its smooth and warm surface. He knelt beside Kadabra's lifeless body, taking a moment to ensure that the egg was alright. He held it gently, examining every detail for any signs of damage. To his relief, the egg appeared intact, and a slight psychic energy emanated from it, as if its mother's essence still protected it.

As he held it, memories of the recent dinner with the Tsubaki family flooded his mind. He recalled the young girl his parents had mentioned, connecting her details to a psychic trainer associated with Sinnoh and Unova. "Could she be Caitlin?" James thought, a glimmer of hope lighting up his mind. Caitlin, the future Battle Frontier Brain of Sinnoh and future member of Unova's Elite Four, was known for her incredible psychic power and financial resources. If it was indeed her, she could offer little Abra a home where it could grow and develop properly.

The connection between mother and child resonated in his mind; Kadabra had left a psychic imprint indicating an innate talent. "If Hypno is the father," he reflected, "that could explain the little one's potential." The idea that this Abra could be raised by someone as capable as Caitlin filled him with optimism. However, before making any assumptions, he knew he had to confirm whether the girl was indeed Caitlin by speaking with his parents at the Pokémon Center when he returned.

With the egg carefully stored in his backpack, James stood up and exited the cave. The forest light welcomed him warmly, and as he moved toward the outside, he felt a new hope beginning to blossom within him. Crossing the threshold of the cave, he encountered a delightful scene: there was Wynaut, eagerly waiting for him.

The little Pokémon jumped for joy upon seeing James, its eyes shining with excitement. "Wynaut!" James exclaimed with a broad smile. The little one ran up and began bouncing around him in circles, showing its overflowing joy at its friend's return. James couldn't help but laugh at the cuteness of the moment; it was a perfect reminder that even amidst pain and sadness, there was always room for joy and hope.

"Come on, buddy," said James as he gently patted Wynaut's head.

"You know, Wynaut?" James began with a smile on his face. "I think it would be great if you officially joined my team." Wynaut looked at him in confusion, its big eyes shining with curiosity. "Naut," replied the little Pokémon innocently as if saying "I thought we were already friends," not understanding why there was a need to ask.

James chuckled softly. "Of course we are! But I want to make sure you're part of my team too." Excitement began to shine in Wynaut's eyes as it nodded enthusiastically. "Wy-Wy!" it exclaimed, showing its joy at the proposal.

With a determined gesture, James took out a Poké Ball from his belt. "Then let's do it!" he said as he threw the Poké Ball toward Wynaut. The sphere shone brightly upon hitting the little Pokémon, which was absorbed by the light and disappeared inside the Poké Ball. The sphere moved once... twice... and finally settled still. James smiled upon seeing that he had captured Wynaut.

"Welcome to the team, Wynaut!" he exclaimed while picking up the Poké Ball and carefully storing it away. With a new companion by his side, he felt more motivated than ever to continue his journey.

After leaving the forest and following the path toward Saffron City, James finally arrived at the outskirts of the city. The bustling metropolis spread out before him, filled with vibrant lights and sounds. However, there was a specific place he wanted to go: Morgan Mansion.

Upon arriving at the mansion, he was greeted by Hopkins, his family's butler. "Welcome, young James," he said with a respectful bow and an affectionate tone. "I'm sorry to inform you that your parents are not home at this time; they have traveled out of town for important meetings."

James felt a slight disappointment upon hearing this but quickly composed himself. "Do you know when they will return?" he asked with interest.

"They will return in two days," Hopkins replied with a reassuring smile. "In the meantime, you can stay here and rest if you wish."

"Thank you, Hopkins," said James while looking around his family mansion. Although anxious to see his parents and share news about his journey and new Pokémon companions, he knew he had time to prepare before their return.

After exchanging some words, Hopkins led James into the mansion's grand garden. The fresh air perfumed with flowers filled their surroundings as they walked along paths adorned with colorful plants. Upon reaching a sunny clearing, James decided to release his Pokémon.

"It's time for you all to meet!" he exclaimed as he threw Poké Balls into the air. In a bright flash, Cheshire, Sora, Eden, Zenith, Goliath, Chuck, and Aslan appeared. Each settled into the garden exploring their new environment.

"Wow! Look how many Pokémon you have!" said Hopkins in amazement as they moved joyfully around him. "Will you introduce them to me?"

"Of course," responded James enthusiastically. "I'll start with Sora."

James approached his Pidgeot. "This is Sora, my Pidgeot. I caught her one morning when she arrived injured at my campsite." Sora flapped her wings in greeting.

Next came Eden: "And here is Eden, my Exeggutor. I met him just outside Saffron City when I officially started my journey." Eden bowed slightly as if introducing himself too.

"This is Zenith," said James while pointing at his Golduck. "I caught him when he accidentally got in my way while I was trying to catch a Staryu when he was still a Psyduck." Zenith gave a small bow as if understanding the anecdote.

"Goliath is my Tauros," continued James. "I caught him in Fuchsia City's Safari Zone. He's quite strong and loyal." Goliath snorted proudly.

Finally turning towards Cheshire: "And here is Cheshire, my Gengar. I found him in Lavender Town." Cheshire floated forward with a mischievous smile.

Lastly looking at Wynaut who still hadn't been properly introduced: "And this little one is Wynaut who just joined my team." Wynaut jumped excitedly among the other Pokémon.

As he watched how his Pokémon interacted with each other and with Hopkins, James felt an overwhelming sense of satisfaction knowing each had their own unique story and abilities that would contribute to their journey.

"It's an impressive team," commented Hopkins admiringly. "I'm sure together you'll achieve great things."

James found himself in Morgan Mansion's grand garden enjoying his Pokémon's company and tranquility of their surroundings while conversing with Hopkins when he noticed that the older man seemed somewhat more animated than usual.

"Young James," said Hopkins with a smile, "your parents left you a gift before departing." With an elegant gesture, he pulled out a small package wrapped in shiny paper and handed it to James.

Intrigued, James took the package and carefully unwrapped it. Upon opening it, his eyes lit up discovering a small dark blue device which he instantly recognized: it was a Pokédex—still being promoted by Professor Oak at that time considered a prototype.

"Wow! How did they get one of these prototypes?" asked James surprised and excited knowing even influential families like Morgans couldn't demand anything from famous Professor Oak—the idea of having such an advanced exclusive device was incredible.

Hopkins smiled mysteriously without offering any clear answers: "Sometimes things come to those who truly need them," he simply stated leaving James with more questions than answers.

With Pokédex in hand feeling excitement mixed with gratitude knowing this device would be invaluable for his life as Pokémon trainer—he also wanted to share this surprise with his parents.

"I'm going to call them at their hotel," said James heading towards mansion's phone while each step filled his mind with ideas on how he'd use Pokédex for registering Pokémon encountered along his path.

Upon reaching phone dialed hotel number eagerly while waiting for someone on other end couldn't help but smile thinking how resilient though always supported him throughout journey—Pokédex merely symbolizing love dedication they'd given him.

James took deep breath listening dialing tone on phone feeling emotions flooding over him thinking about conversation about have soon—with finally call connecting familiar voice from father resonated across line:

"James! Is that you?" Mrs.Morgan said cheerfully.

"Yes dad! It's me," responded James feeling wave happiness hearing father's voice again—"I wanted thank you for gift! Pokédex is amazing!"

Hello readers! I hope you enjoyed today's chapters. Some of you might not agree with the decision that he doesn't keep the Abra, but personally, I believe that if you have a Gengar, you can't carry an Alakazam and vice versa. It may seem like a somewhat silly thought, but that's how I feel.

Putting that aside, I hope you can share your opinions. I have in mind that James captures a pseudo-legendary or a very rare Pokémon after the Indigo Conference, and I wanted to give you the opportunity to participate in the fanfic by choosing which Pokémon it will be.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions, I am open to reading them.I also hope you provide your feedback to help me improve this story. Thank you for reading!
