The Time-Limited Elixir of the Ruined Clan

Chapter 3

In her past life, although she woke up around this time, she was in constant severe pain due to her energy, so she had no clear memory of meeting her grandfather and was unaware of this.

The Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir was a legendary item said to have condensed the earth’s energy over ten thousand years into a force of extreme yang. Consuming it without proper preparation would result in being burned to death by its overwhelming yang energy.

If the Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir had been used in her cleansing of impurities remedy, then surely a yin-based elixir would have been added to control it. To counterbalance a thousand-year elixir, the other ingredient would also have to be a rare and precious medicine of equal worth.

‘With all this stuff included, no wonder they say performing the cleansing of impurities drains the entire household down to its rafters…’

“Ryeon-ah, When you meet your grandfather, you must sincerely thank him. Okay? He gave you something truly precious.”

 “Yes, I understand!”

Ryeon actually didn’t know much about her grandfather, Danmok Cheongi.

In the memories she had glimpsed, Danmok Cheongi had remained secluded in the family’s inner quarters, and not long after, he had quietly passed away.

‘As expected, was he not in good health?’

The fact that the Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir was originally meant for Danmok Cheongi himself also weighed on her mind.

Even though he possessed it, the fact that it hadn’t yet been made into a medicine and consumed was likely because it was difficult to create a remedy that matched his condition. The need for a complex medicine would suggest that his condition was quite serious.

‘I also need to know clearly what happened to my grandfather.’

Ryeon resolved firmly. Safety, no accidents, and longevity naturally included the well-being of the family.

 ‘And when Grandfather passes away…’

The Moonless Sword was a treasure of the Danmok family. When Danmok Cheongi was still alive as the greatest of all, there was no one in Zhejiang Province who dared to challenge the Danmok family.

However, after he suffered a severe injury in the battle with Blood Faction, the family’s fortunes quickly declined.

On top of that, when the sole heir, Danmok Hyunseong, died a few years ago in a duel with the Geum family, the Clan was shaken greatly. A few years later, Danmok Cheongi also passed away, leaving the Danmok family in such a diminished state that it was almost embarrassing to still call them a ‘Clan.’

Had it not been for the family’s long history that supports them, they would have simply become known as ‘Danmok Clan’.

Perhaps it would have really happened a few years after her death?

‘I have to do something with this power!’

Back then, she didn’t know why she was sick, why she continued to be ill, or why she couldn’t cultivate her internal energy. But now, isn’t it different?

Wi Jicheong received a white fur scarf from Nanny Jang, wrapped it around Ryeon’s neck, and then gently took her hand.

The Moonshadow quarter where the grand patriarch Danmok Cheongi lived was located in the deepest part of the estate.

 * * *

The Moonshadow quarter, built with dark-colored sandalwood that looked almost black, was a building that at first glance had a simple charm.

Perhaps due to having been barely maintained for a long time, there were some worn-out areas here and there.

The Head of the Household Kang Lib, who had been standing at the entrance, greeted the two as if he had been waiting for them.

Kang Lib looked at Ryeon once, bowed in greeting, and then guided the two of them inside.

As they entered through the air that faintly smelled of medicinal herbs, the first thing they saw was a heavy curtain.

“Ryeon has come to express her gratitude, Father.”

Wi Jicheong spoke softly and wrapped her arm around Ryeon’s shoulder.

“Hmm. How is the child’s health?”

From behind the heavy curtain, an elderly man’s rough and deep voice emerged. It seemed that Danmok Cheongi had no intention of drawing back the curtain.

“Thanks to your concern, I’ve really gotten better.”

“I heard that according to the Dang Clan people, it’s no different from a miracle.”

“If it weren’t for Father and the Physician Dang, it would have been an impossible miracle. Ryeon, you should offer your thanks.”

Wi Jicheong answered. The old man’s voice wasn’t particularly warm, but he knew Ryeon’s condition well.

In the past, even after awakening, her memories of properly greeting others were faint, as she had been bedridden and moving between beds. Ryeon shifted her gaze and decided to put her resolve into action.

“Yes! Thanks to the medicine Grandfather gave me, I’ve completely recovered. That’s why I came to visit and thank Grandfather…”

Ryeon looked up at the place where the curtain was hanging and took a step forward, one at a time.

“Can I go inside and greet you?”

Ryeon continued speaking in a childlike voice as if she knew nothing.

“I want to greet Grandfather, but this is blocking the way.”

From behind the curtain, a hint of surprise could be felt. It seemed that the elderly man was astonished to hear the young child, who had just recently risen from her sickbed, speaking so clearly.

Soon, a rough and distorted laughter like scraping metal was heard from inside.

“Hm. That child is quite bold. Let her in.”

As soon as she received permission, Ryeon quickly stepped through the bamboo-bead curtain into the inner chamber.

 “…!”

In the traditional wooden chair of the Taesa, one side of Danmok Cheongi’s wrinkled face was covered by a terrifying burn scar.

The scar resembled red mud smeared messily across his skin. The scar on his left hand, resting on the armrest of the Taesa, was similar.

It was a familiar face to Ryeon. Before she received the cleansing of impurities, he had occasionally watched her quietly while she lay still, then would leave without a word.

 However…

‘Oh my. I can’t see his face well because of the light.’

 She swallowed a dry saliva.

Because a loud notification flashed before her eyes.

 * 3 Stars Spiritual Vision (1 Star▲) Achievement * You can view the Talent and Wisdom sections. You can view the detailed sections of your achievements. Just by facing Danmok Cheongi and seeing his face, Ryeon’s spiritual vision increased by one level.

His facial features were blurred by the golden light surrounding him. Only his eyes, shining like a wild beast, were clearly visible in the light.

Ryeon came to her senses when she saw the somewhat cloudy red light emanating from around Danmok Cheongi’s waist.

‘Is this something visible now that my Spiritual Vision is at 3 stars? Could it be an old injury from when he fought against the Blood Faction?’

Ryeon quickly pretended to adjust her sleeve and brought up the Divine Mirror over it.

Danmok Ryeon Balance: 7 Stars – May not be noticeable. Spiritual Vision: 3 Stars – Allows you to see much more. Purification: 2 Stars – Allows you to purify vitality. Strength: 5 / 100 Internal Energy: Not Acquirable External Energy: Not Acquired Energy: 70 / 100  A new line of description appeared for the abilities of Balance, Spiritual Vision, and Purification. It seemed that the ability of Spiritual Vision at 3 stars was to ‘see even more.’

Danmok Cheongi Characteristics: Guardian of the Murim / Tendons Collector / Filled with Regret / Biikjo.  Falling Star Twelve Swords: 11 Stars (12 Stars) Infinite Treasure: 12 Star Meteor Formation: 10 Stars Talent and Wisdom: High-Medium Concerns: Danmok Ryeon’s health and talent, the declining family wealth, the elimination of the Blood Faction, and the achievements of Danmok Hyunyo and Danmok Hyunwoo .  (t/n : Biikjo is a pair of mythological birds each with one eye and one wing always flying together, symbolizing a devoted couple.) The talents and wisdom that had not been visible before were also revealed. It seems that while the Falling Star Twelve Swords originally achieved up to 12 stars, due to injuries, it is unable to fully manifest its power.

Ryeon quickly sorted out her confusion and greeted him.

“Ah! Grandfather… Thank you for the medicine.”

Danmok Cheongi twitched his eyebrows at Ryeon’s greeting, then stroked his chin and said.

“I gave it to you because I wouldn’t be able to use it anyway even if I held it. However, that doesn’t mean the medicinal herbs aren’t precious. Do you understand? Just as you have received the family’s expectations, you must work hard to live up to them!”

The voice of Danmok Cheongi resonated loudly throughout the room.

Ryeon swallowed a sigh. How could someone with a radiant presence like that, shining like the sun, quietly pass away in just a few years?

But now was not the time to dwell on regret.

“Yes, Grandfather! I will work hard!”

If she could resolve Danmok Cheongi’s injuries, she might be able to extend his remaining lifespan. And she was certain that it would be possible with her own abilities.

Elixirs and mystical creatures in the natural world often exhibit extreme properties. This is because they have evolved to adapt and survive in the harsh environments of nature.

For example, the Ten Thousand Year Snow Ginseng has extreme cold properties, while Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir in her prescription has extreme heat properties. Likewise, the Human-Faced Spider and Poison-Horned Dragon possess extreme poison properties. Consuming such substances requires balancing one’s constitution; otherwise, they could freeze or burn the blood vessels to death.

Even elixirs that have been carefully refined and balanced like this cannot be consumed recklessly. Excessively potent and powerful substances can become toxic in themselves.

The reason why Danmok Cheongi only held onto the Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir might be that the various elixirs in his prescriptions were unable to complement each other’s properties.

‘Originally, absorbing too much energy at once can be toxic, but if it is absorbed gradually over time…’

However, her power was different. It was pure spiritual energy itself that didn’t lean toward either yin or yang.

A power that could support the weak parts, complement the strong parts, and naturally blend together when absorbed.

The reason Ryeon, the vessel for the spiritual energy, couldn’t endure and ended up in a state of transformation was because the energy, which required careful handling even in small amounts, surged like a tidal wave.

But what if she carefully and gradually refined this energy over time and then passed it on to her grandfather?

If her grandfather could live a long life like that…

Then she could use the energy before it accumulates, prevent the family from falling into chaos, and repay the debt of the Ten Thousand Years Ultimate Blood Elixir.

‘That’s killing three birds with one stone! Ah, no, hitting three targets with one stone!’
