Chapter 3 - Holding the Family Meeting, Announcing New Rules
“The Jiang Family matter—don’t worry, I’ll handle it.”
“Since everyone is here today, I’ll take this opportunity to hold a family meeting and announce some matters!”
With that thought, Lin Xuan’s expression became serious as he spoke in a low tone.
The family panel’s tasks required a family meeting to be held before they could be unlocked. Additionally, many of the previous family rules were no longer suitable for the family’s future development.
Lin Xuan saw this as a great opportunity to convene the meeting, unlock the tasks, and implement new rules all at once. A win-win situation!
When Lin Xuan spoke, none of the elders had any objections. They all sat upright, fully attentive, waiting for Lin Xuan to continue.
“Now that I’ve broken through to the Golden Core stage, our family has the opportunity to rise from a two-star cultivation family to a three-star one.”
“In light of this, I’ve decided to implement reforms to enhance the family’s strength and consolidate our power!”
Lin Xuan scanned the room and spoke with a serious tone.
“Reforms?”
“This…”
Upon hearing Lin Xuan’s words, the elders’ faces changed slightly, but no one spoke.
“Previously, family resources were allocated based on the closeness of bloodlines—whether direct or collateral.”
“This is highly inappropriate and hinders the family’s growth!”
“I have decided to establish a merit-based system to replace the old system of prioritizing bloodlines!”
After the strongest family system was activated, Lin Xuan, besides healing and breaking through, had spent considerable time reflecting on various matters. This included the path he would take, methods for managing the family, and issues with the family’s system.
The area Lin Xuan thought most deeply about was the family’s management system. If the family was to grow, he needed to mobilize everyone’s enthusiasm for development. To achieve this, Lin Xuan had to address two aspects.
First, he had to make full use of the system’s functions to gather enough information and resources to cultivate his family members and help the family thrive. Second, he needed to establish a fair, just, and transparent system to ensure the smooth operation of the family.
Managing the family based on bloodlines had some advantages, but the drawbacks were far greater. Why should someone with low cultivation and poor abilities hold a high position simply because of their birth?
In the Lin Family under Lin Xuan’s leadership, there would be no such favoritism! Spoiled, incompetent descendants who contributed nothing to the family yet indulged in pleasure and caused trouble due to their family status had no place here.
Allowing too many spoiled descendants would not only tarnish the family’s reputation but also harm its overall development. Although these problems usually surfaced in large, well-established families, Lin Xuan wanted to nip them in the bud before they even had a chance to arise.
“Family head, what exactly is merit?” one elder asked, his face showing confusion.
“Family head, making sudden reforms—could that be too risky?” another elder whispered, uncertain.
Most of the elders, however, remained silent, pondering Lin Xuan’s intentions.
“Previously, as long as someone reached the Foundation Establishment stage, they could become an elder.”
“From today onward, to become an elder, both cultivation and merit must meet the required standards!”
“All current elders must meet these standards as well. If they fail to do so, their elder status will be revoked!”
Ignoring the few who spoke, Lin Xuan continued. After receiving his predecessor’s memories, Lin Xuan clearly understood the state of the current elders.
Some genuinely contributed to the family, while others abused their power, taking resources without making any contributions. Such behavior was unacceptable to Lin Xuan.
The Lin Family belonged to him, Lin Xuan, and anyone who abused their power or embezzled family resources was obstructing its growth. Such individuals would not only be punished but severely punished!
“This…”
After the last lesson, no one dared to voice objections this time, but the solemn expressions on the elders’ faces showed that they were beginning to realize something—things in the Lin Family were changing.
“Previously, family resources were collected and distributed by each branch.”
“From today onward, all family resources will be collected and distributed centrally by the family. No branch will be allowed to interfere!”
The issue of collecting and distributing family resources was crucial to Lin Xuan’s reforms. The system had a particularly important function: investment feedback.
Investment required an enormous amount of cultivation resources—techniques, pills, spiritual tools, materials, and more. Lin Xuan’s predecessor had drained his personal treasury attempting to break through to the Golden Core stage. Now, if Lin Xuan wanted to develop the family and make investments, he needed to consolidate control over all the family’s resources.
Of course, this was only temporary. Once the family’s development was on track and investment feedback began to take effect, cultivation resources and treasures would no longer be a problem for Lin Xuan.
“Do any of the elders have objections?”
Seeing their downcast expressions, Lin Xuan ignored them and asked firmly.
“We have no objections! We trust the family head’s judgment!”
None of the elders dared to raise any issues. Their response was exactly as Lin Xuan had expected. Publicly, he was the family head, and his word was law. Privately, he was now a Golden Core cultivator. It didn’t matter if these were just a few new rules—Lin Xuan had the power to make decisions on all matters in the family.
In Lin Xuan’s previous world, if you had money, power, connections, and influence, you could do as you pleased. In this world, strength and high cultivation allowed you to do whatever you wanted.
You could decide life and death with a single word. Your wrath alone could shatter the heavens and the earth.
With enough cultivation, one could change the world with a single thought, remain eternally youthful, and even achieve immortality.
“Are there any promising talents within the family?”
After laying out the three new rules, Lin Xuan shifted the topic and asked. He had already reviewed the basic information on all family members through the family panel, but the system’s data was limited. It didn’t give as clear a picture as his Insightful Eye could.
Therefore, Lin Xuan wanted to start by identifying some of the more promising family members to see if there were any worth investing in.
“Family head, are you perhaps thinking…” one elder’s face lit up, realizing what Lin Xuan might be implying.
“Family head, my son Lin Zhifeng…”
“Family head, my grandson Lin Bisheng…”
“Family head, my daughter Lin Zhixia…”
Several elders who believed their children or grandchildren to be talented immediately stood up and eagerly recommended them to Lin Xuan. Having the attention of a Golden Core family head was a tremendous opportunity.
If their descendants could train directly under him, they wouldn’t necessarily reach the Golden Core stage, but achieving Foundation Establishment would be within reach.
If their branch could produce a few more Foundation Establishment cultivators, their influence within the family would undoubtedly grow. Naturally, the elders with promising descendants were enthusiastic, while those without suitable candidates could only sit and watch, regretting that they hadn’t worked harder. They silently vowed to put in more effort in the future, hoping to have a child to recommend one day.
