Chapter 2 - Family Discussion, Lin Xuan Emerges from Seclusion
In the Lin Family’s meeting hall, all the family elders were seated, their expressions heavy, and the atmosphere oppressive.
“Perhaps… we should wake the family head.”
“At a time like this, only the family head can…”
After a long silence in the hall, one elder finally spoke up in a low voice.
“No, absolutely not!”
“The family head is in seclusion and at the most critical stage of his cultivation. At this moment, we must not disturb him, or it could affect his breakthrough!”
Before the elder could finish speaking, another elder interrupted harshly.
“But…”
“But what? There’s no ‘but’!”
“No matter how strong the Jiang Family is, they won’t make our Lin Family bow down! At worst, we’ll fight to the death!”
“When the family head breaks through and emerges, the mere Jiang Family will be wiped out with a single hand!”
The elder still wanted to argue, but the grand elder, sitting at the head of the table, suddenly stood up and said loudly.
Hearing this, the other elders fell silent, though their expressions revealed their inner unrest.
White Cloud City had always been controlled by the four great families: Jiang, Lu, Lin, and Feng. The shops and resources of the city were divided among these four families. However, Lin Xuan, the family head of the Lin Family, had been in seclusion for several years, and without a strong Foundation Establishment cultivator at its helm, the Lin Family was left vulnerable.
Moreover, the son of the Jiang Family’s head, Jiang Haoyun, had joined the great cultivation sect, the Sand Sea Sect, causing the Jiang Family to feel emboldened. They now sought to force the Lin Family to relinquish a quarter of White Cloud City’s resources to them.
But how could the Lin Family possibly hand over the resources that rightfully belonged to them? And so, this meeting had been called.
Cultivation cannot solely rely on closing doors and training! It requires a vast amount of resources. If the Lin Family gave up their share of resources, it would halt the cultivation progress of their members, disrupt family operations, and hinder the training of new talent.
If that happened, the Lin Family could fall into decline and potentially lose their status as a cultivation family altogether. Thus, it was impossible for the Lin Family to surrender what was rightfully theirs. To protect the family’s interests, they were willing to clash with the Jiang Family, even if it meant going to war!
“Even if Jiang Haoyun became a disciple of the Sand Sea Sect, he’s still just an ordinary disciple. His influence is limited!”
“The real concern is the attitudes of the other two families. They might join forces with the Jiang Family to take advantage of the situation!”
“We must remain extremely vigilant!”
Despite sensing the lack of confidence in the room, the grand elder, Lin Teng, continued to speak. With the family head, Lin Xuan, still in seclusion, it was up to him to make decisions and safeguard the family’s foundation.
“Brother Teng is right!”
“The Lu and Feng families are especially cunning. Who’s to say they haven’t already been swayed by the Jiang Family?”
Lin Hui, the youngest of the Lin Family elders, spoke up. With the Jiang Family pressuring them, the situation was already bleak. Now they had to guard against the Lu and Feng families taking advantage of the chaos, making the elders’ expressions even grimmer.
Although the four great families shared White Cloud City, their relations were far from harmonious. Disputes over resource allocation, market control, and constant conflicts—both in the open and in secret—were commonplace.
If any one of the families found an opportunity to eliminate another, the remaining three would certainly act. This current predicament was an unprecedented disaster for the Lin Family.
“If only Big Brother were here!”
Lin Hui raised his head and looked toward the hall’s entrance, his heart filled with hope. He recalled that, three years ago, when Lin Xuan had not yet entered seclusion, the Jiang Family wouldn’t have dared to provoke the Lin Family so easily.
Lin Xuan, with his peak Foundation Establishment cultivation, was far stronger than the Jiang Family’s elder. But now, after just three short years of Lin Xuan’s absence, the Jiang Family dared to act so brazenly.
“I wonder when Big Brother will break through and emerge from seclusion…”
Lin Hui silently mused, feeling a mix of anticipation and worry.
“Is everyone here?”
“Why are your faces so grim?”
“What’s going on?”
At that moment, a streak of light flashed by, and Lin Xuan appeared in the hall. He had originally planned to stroll around the Lin Family estate but noticed all the elders gathered in the meeting hall. Sensing that something important must be happening, he decided to join them directly.
Judging by their expressions, Lin Xuan immediately knew something major was afoot. It seemed his arrival was perfectly timed.
“Big Brother!!!”
“Family head!”
The elders were momentarily stunned, then erupted in joy, all standing to greet Lin Xuan. The overwhelming fear of impending disaster turned to elation, and their emotions surged, making the moment feel surreal.
After breaking through to the Golden Core stage, Lin Xuan’s lifespan had greatly increased, and he now appeared exceptionally youthful and handsome.
“Big Brother, have you broken through to the Golden Core stage?” Lin Hui asked excitedly, eyeing Lin Xuan, who now looked as young as he did. Though it was phrased as a question, his tone was filled with certainty.
Lin Xuan’s youthful appearance was proof enough of his breakthrough. The other elders, upon hearing this, also quieted down, their gazes filled with anticipation. They had their guesses, but hearing Lin Xuan confirm it himself would be something else entirely.
Lin Xuan’s aura was restrained, so they couldn’t sense his power. Naturally, they wanted him to confirm it personally.
“Yes,” Lin Xuan said softly, a smile playing on his lips.
However, sensing that mere words weren’t enough to convey the gravity of the situation, Lin Xuan willed a powerful aura to burst forth, enveloping the entire hall in its overwhelming presence.
“Heaven bless the Lin Family! Congratulations, family head!”
The aura came and went swiftly, but the elders knew without a doubt that Lin Xuan had truly broken through. A Golden Core cultivator was a true powerhouse. In a place like White Cloud City, such a person was an unrivaled existence.
Now that Lin Xuan had reached the Golden Core stage, what was the Jiang Family? And what were the other three great families? Even the Sand Sea Sect wouldn’t dare offend a Golden Core cultivator over a mere ordinary disciple.
“No need for such formalities!”
“Now, tell me, what exactly is going on?”
Lin Xuan seated himself at the head of the hall and glanced around at the elders, his tone calm.
“Yes, family head!”
“The situation is as follows… The Jiang Family gave us a three-day deadline to respond.”
Lin Teng spoke up, recounting the recent events to Lin Xuan.
“Family head, the Jiang Family has gone too far!”
“Now that you’ve broken through, we cannot let them off so easily!”
After explaining the situation, Lin Teng, thinking about Lin Xuan’s newfound power, added firmly. How powerful was a Golden Core cultivator? Even if all of White Cloud City’s factions joined forces, they wouldn’t dare act recklessly in front of a Golden Core master.
“White Cloud City’s Jiang Family…”
Lin Xuan’s eyes flickered as he listened. On the surface, it seemed like the Jiang Family’s goal was to seize a quarter of the city’s resources. However, their true intentions were likely far more complicated. What exactly they were up to, Lin Xuan didn’t know, nor did he care.
All he wanted now was to focus on developing his family and increasing his strength. If the Jiang Family dared to interfere with his plans, he would simply crush them and wipe them out.
