Chapter 324: Maple's Lottery Experience
The adventurers and staff in the tavern subtly focused their attention on Eriri's table.
When they saw Riveria treating Eriri with such respect, they were shocked, sparking immense curiosity about Eriri's identity.
For Riveria, the strongest magic-user in Orario and known as the "Nine Hells," to act so deferentially, even other gods would struggle to command such treatment.
"Lady Loki, here's the wine you requested. Let me know if you'd like more," Syr said as she carried a tray with several bottles of what looked to be expensive wine to Eriri's table.
"Of course! I'm drinking my fill today," Loki said gleefully, taking a bottle without waiting for the food to be served.
She poured the amber-colored liquid into a wooden tankard and immediately took a large gulp.
"Ahh... refreshing!"
After serving the wine, Syr didn't leave immediately. Instead, she stepped closer to Eriri's side.
Observing Eriri's side profile up close, a fleeting look of admiration flashed in Syr's eyes, though she quickly concealed it.
With a curious tone, she asked Eriri, "Hello there. From what Lady Loki said earlier, you must be a very powerful adventurer, right?"
Eriri glanced at Syr deeply, her face showing a meaningful smile.
She could see the connection between Syr and Freya, who resided in Babel Tower, but she had no intention of interfering. As long as no one crossed her, she had no interest in meddling in others' affairs.
However, should anyone provoke her, they would need to fend for themselves. Eriri harbored no interest in a "communal goddess" like Freya.
Noticing the unusual smile on Eriri's face, Syr felt as though her secret had been uncovered, causing her to grow anxious.
"You've guessed wrong. I'm not an adventurer," Eriri replied lightly. "By the way, could you bring us a few glasses of fruit juice?"
"Ah, sure... of course," Syr stammered, snapping out of her thoughts. She hurriedly turned and walked toward the bar.
When she returned with the fruit juice, her emotions had settled back to her initial calm demeanor.
Soon after, one dish after another was brought to the table by the tavern staff, officially starting the relatively small banquet.
The lunch lasted a little over an hour. By the time Eriri returned to the Saekano world, it was already past three in the afternoon.
...
In an ordinary girl's room, Kaede Honjou opened her eyes. Clenching her fists, she felt the surge of power coursing through her body, and a hint of excitement appeared on her face.
Just hours ago, she had been a frail little girl. Now, she felt like she could effortlessly lift the bed beneath her.
"This points system is amazing! When I tell Risa later, she's going to be so shocked," she muttered, giggling as she imagined her best friend's reaction.
That morning, after snatching 1.45 million points from Eriri's red envelope in the chat group, Kaede hadn't immediately logged out of her game to explore the points system. Instead, after lunch, she decided to take a break from the game and focus on the chat group.
She started by watching the memory clips shared within the group. Thanks to the immersive viewing mode, it didn't take her long to finish all the clips. Watching them felt like binging an anime, leaving her wanting more.
Through these clips, Kaede gained a rough understanding of the background and identities of most group members. Afterward, she delved into the chat group's points system.
The first feature she explored was the most basic and essential: the strengthening function.
Over three hours, she spent around 4,000 points, raising her strength from Level 1, Stage 2, to Level 1, Stage 9—the pinnacle of what an ordinary person could achieve.
If those who dedicated countless hours to rigorous physical training knew this, they might spiral into despair.
"According to the chat group, further strengthening will take me into Level 2, where I'll awaken supernatural powers," Kaede murmured to herself. "I wonder what those powers will be like. I can't wait."
With that, she closed her eyes again and continued using points to enhance her body.
After spending another 1,000 points, Kaede finally felt a mysterious energy emerge within her. She also noticed that her physical capabilities had surpassed the human limit, ushering her into a completely new realm.
"So, this is supernatural power... how fascinating." Kaede's expression was like a child discovering a new toy as she directed the energy to flow through her body.
Although the energy was faint—a mere trickle—its potency was undeniable.
If she infused this tiny bit of energy into her palm, she could effortlessly defeat someone at Level 1, Stage 9.
The emergence of this energy only deepened Kaede's curiosity about supernatural powers.
"I'll stop enhancing my strength for now and check out the lottery system. It seems to have some really cool items," she decided. Suppressing the urge to continue strengthening herself, Kaede used her thoughts to open the chat group's lottery system.
Gazing at the three tiers of the lottery, Kaede decided to test the waters with the low-tier lottery.
At 100 points per draw, she calculated that even a hundred draws would only cost her 10,000 points—a drop in the bucket for someone with over a million points.
Spending 1,000 points, Kaede purchased ten low-tier draws and opted for a 10-draw bundle.
The chat group lottery had no guarantees. No matter how many times she drew, the chances of getting something good remained the same—it all depended on luck.
For example, Ruri Gokou had drawn over 10,000 times in the high-tier lottery before finally acquiring the Tenseigan. Even so, her luck wasn't bad; the Tenseigan was a Level 6 item. Alongside other rewards from those 10,000 draws, she hadn't lost too much—unless the majority were complete trash.
Kaede's first 10-draw results appeared quickly:
[Ding! Successfully used the low-tier lottery 10 times. Rewards: Nichirin Blade, Fried Rice, Milk Tea, Tissue Pack ×2, P220 Handgun, 1,000 Points ×2, Laptop, 100,000 Points. Physical rewards have been sent to your personal storage space.]
Staring at the rewards displayed in her mind, Kaede Honjou froze for a moment. Even with her naturally naive personality, she realized she had hit the jackpot. The 100,000 points alone were an enormous gain.
She couldn't help but feel curious about the probability of getting such good rewards in the chat group's lottery system. Without hesitation, she switched to the chat module.
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): Everyone, I wanted to ask—does the chat group's lottery system have a high probability of giving good items?]
[Ruri Gokou (Level 5, Stage 9): ...It's pretty decent, yeah!]
[Chika Fujiwara (Level 5, Stage 9): Mhm, it's actually not bad.]
[Erina Nakiri (Level 5, Stage 4): That depends on your luck, I suppose.]
[Adele (Level 3, Stage 7): I haven't tried the lottery system yet. Maybe I'll give it a go later and see how it is.]
[Arifureta (Level 6, Stage 2/ Group Leader): Maple, I think your luck is quite good. You should give it a try.]
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): I see. No wonder I got these things. The chat group is so generous!]
[Ruri Gokou (Level 5, Stage 9): Hmm??? Are you saying you've already tried the lottery and got good stuff?]
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): Yep. Screenshot.jpg]
Upon seeing Ruri Gokou's message, Kaede immediately shared a screenshot of her ten-draw results in the chat group.
When the other group members saw the contents of the image, the chat group erupted.
[Chika Fujiwara (Level 5, Stage 9): What?! She actually got the 1,000x points reward? That actually exists???]
[Arifureta (Level 6, Stage 2/ Group Leader): As expected, Maple's luck is incredible.]
[Adele (Level 3, Stage 7): Wow, that's insane—a direct 1,000x return! If you did a 10,000-point draw for a high-tier lottery, wouldn't that be 10 million points back?!]
[Ruri Gokou (Level 5, Stage 9): This is absurd. Maple, how many times did you draw? Don't tell me it was just those ten draws.]
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): That's right. I only drew ten times. Is it really that hard to get these items?]
[Ruri Gokou (Level 5, Stage 9): Destroy it all. I'm done. So tired.]
[Chika Fujiwara (Level 5, Stage 9): …]
[Erina Nakiri (Level 5, Stage 4): …]
[Kaguya Shinomiya (Level 5, Stage 7): …]
[Yuuki Asuna (Level 5, Stage 9): …]
[Elaina (Level 6, Stage 1): …]
[…]
Suddenly, the chat group's window was flooded with ellipses. All the members, save for those who weren't paying attention, couldn't help but respond with a "+1."
Except for Eriri and the newly joined members, every group member had tried the lottery system many times. Without exception, the probability of obtaining high-tier rewards had always been abysmally low.
The fact that Kaede managed to pull one 1,000x points reward and two 10x points rewards in a single ten-draw was simply beyond belief.
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): Uh... What's wrong with everyone?]
[Eriri (Level 8, Stage 9): It's fine. They're just all a bit shaken. Go ahead and keep drawing.]
[Kaede Honjou (Level 2, Stage 1): Uh… okay.]
After sending that message, Kaede Honjou returned to the lottery module. Judging by the reactions of the other group members earlier, she now understood how rare the 100,000-point reward she had drawn was.
This time, she decided not to continue with the low-tier lottery. Instead, she went straight for the high-tier lottery. After all, she had just earned 100,000 points. Even if her next ten high-tier draws ended up being duds, it wouldn't matter much.
Without hesitation, she purchased ten high-tier lottery draws. The 100,000 points she had just gained hadn't even had time to feel warm before they vanished again.
Just as she was about to use her high-tier lottery tickets, a gentle voice called from outside her room.
"Kaede, dinner's ready."
"Okay, Mom, I'll be right there!" Kaede instinctively shouted in reply.
She opened her eyes and turned her gaze toward the window.
"Ah… it's already this late," Kaede murmured in surprise.
The bright sunlight outside had disappeared, and night had quietly enveloped the sky. However, the lightbulb in her room had been on the entire time, so the room remained brightly lit.
Kaede reached over to pick up her phone, which she had tossed carelessly onto the bed. The lock screen displayed the time: it was already past six in the evening. She also noticed a few missed calls on her phone.
Kaede quickly unlocked her phone and opened the missed call log, realizing that all the missed calls were from the same person.
"Uh-oh, calls from Risa. I didn't notice at all."
Perhaps because she had been too focused on strengthening her abilities earlier, she hadn't heard her phone ringing at all.
Instead of immediately calling back, Kaede exited the missed call screen and opened her messaging app. As expected, she found numerous unread messages from her best friend, Risa Shiramine, on LINE.
Without hesitation, Kaede opened her chat with Risa Shiramine and initiated a video call. The phone rang a few times before the call connected, and a cute girl with long brown hair appeared on Kaede's screen.
"Kaede, are you okay? Why didn't you pick up earlier?" Risa's worried voice came through the phone.
"Ah, sorry, Risa. I was busy with something and didn't notice my phone. Really sorry about that," Kaede said as she held her phone up to frame her upper body in the camera.
"Phew, it's fine, as long as you're okay. I was worried something had happened to you." Risa sighed in relief. "Kaede, what were you doing this afternoon? You didn't even log into the game. I was waiting for you to help me clear that dungeon!"
"Hehe, Risa, listen. Something unbelievable happened to me!" Kaede said with a mysterious smile.
But before she could elaborate, the gentle voice from outside her room interrupted her again.
"Kaede, are you coming? Dinner's already served."
"Coming!"
Kaede shouted in reply, then looked down at her phone apologetically. "Risa, I'm heading to dinner now. Let's talk later, okay?"
"Mm-hmm, go eat! Don't keep your parents waiting."
Nodding, Kaede ended the video call and walked out of her room with light, cheerful steps.
