Chapter 37 - Twenty-Four Hours
The next day, Jiang Hui woke up early. She had finally gotten a good night’s sleep last night, temporarily alleviating her insomnia, and she had also confirmed something. That space—
That strange space was not indefinite; each time she spent twenty-four hours there, she could return to the real interstellar world.
How did she know this? Because last night, Jiang Hui had stayed in that space for a full twenty-four hours without sleeping for even a minute, and then she opened her eyes to wake up in her interstellar bedroom.
Moreover, she realized that the time she woke up was not far from when she had fallen asleep… What did this mean? She needed time to fall asleep, after all.
This meant that the time Jiang Hui spent in that space likely did not reflect in reality. In other words, the time flow in that “dream” space was completely independent of and did not overlap with the flow of time in the real interstellar world. This also meant that she could enter and exit that space at will.
It was highly likely a completely still space.
In the few days since Jiang Hui arrived in the interstellar world, she had entered that strange space almost daily, each time staying long enough to return in a haze. So, could it also be inferred that her cycle of entering this space was twenty-four hours?
She spent twenty-four hours in the real world, and it seemed she also needed to stay in that dream space for twenty-four hours… Goodness, even livestock wouldn’t live like this. Although she still hadn’t fully grasped what kind of bizarre situation she had gotten herself into, her instincts were already screaming at her about the dire straits she would face in the future—
But this question still needed to be marked with a question mark; it required further verification.
Now, Jiang Hui needed to focus on the negotiation scheduled for today; she hadn’t forgotten that she was supposed to meet with a lawyer to go to the Hailusi Group.
The girl tossed off her covers, changed into the casual clothes she had prepared yesterday, tidied herself up a bit, and then slipped on her shoes before walking out into the living room.
Since she had resisted sleeping in the space, Jiang Hui naturally fell asleep after coming out, enjoying a dreamless night of deep sleep. So even though she got up a bit early today, she still looked quite spirited.
Today was her first time traveling alone in the interstellar world.
Although she appeared calm and composed, she couldn’t help but feel a bit excited inside.
Even after boarding the hover train, Jiang Hui found it hard to suppress her slightly excited emotions.
This hover train was another type of transportation she had never used before. It was trackless and didn’t run along the ground; instead, it traveled from station to station according to a magnetic field, meaning it operated without fixed tracks.
However, this mode of transportation was quite smooth. Since she lived in the central area of the fourth ring, taking this type of trackless train to the city center’s first ring was much more convenient and faster than the city bus.
The only downside was that this type of transportation was expensive, with fares three to four times higher than city buses. Unless there was a special need, most people didn’t prefer to use this mode of transport.
Jiang Hui didn’t mind, though, because according to the regulations, Hailusi Group was required to reimburse her travel expenses and meal allowance for this trip.
The other party had originally mentioned sending a hover car to pick her up, but Jiang Hui declined. She had arranged to meet with Lawyer Jian near the Hailusi Group.
The headquarters of Hailusi Group was located in the first ring of the continent on this planet, which is the central urban area of the continent. This place gathers all the well-known conglomerates and enterprises of the entire planet and is the most extravagant area of the continent, where almost all the wealthy people congregate. This clearly shows that this planet is a region with a highly concentrated economy.
Jiang Hui had browsed through a lot of astonishing cityscapes and astronomical sights on her holographic computer, moving from initial shock to gradual acceptance, and even now she still found herself amazed by the scenery before her. It is human instinct to appreciate magnificent landscapes.
After passing through a cluster of skyscrapers, each nearly hundreds of stories tall, and crossing various bizarre buildings, Jiang Hui finally found the tea house where she was to meet Lawyer Jian, thanks to the navigation.
This was a small independent house only four or five stories high, surrounded by a lush little garden. It appeared particularly small and striking among the tall buildings.
Oh, it was evident that the owner wasn’t short on money. After all, land resources in the interstellar world were quite valuable, and in such a prime location where land is as precious as gold, choosing to build a low-rise house instead of a skyscraper—even one that didn’t even reach the height of the lower floors of nearby high-rises—was certainly a display of wealth and audacity.
Not to mention, this Rococo style, which closely resembles that of Blue Star, is actually quite authentic, much more so than the fake European towns Jiang Hui visited back on Blue Star.
The girl stepped into the courtyard and pushed open the heavy wooden door of the tea house. As soon as she entered, she heard the sound of wind chimes, and a slight chill greeted her. Her gaze naturally turned toward the main hall.
Inside the tea house, there were several cozy booths, decorated with lights and accessories that exuded a sense of ancient history. This place was likely favored by enthusiasts of ancient cultures. However, Jiang Hui didn’t have time to admire it; she was focused on finding the lawyer Jian whom she had arranged to meet.
Fortunately, Jian was not as face-blind as Jiang Hui and quickly noticed her, waving to the girl.
Realizing she had walked around in circles without spotting her, Jiang Hui felt quite embarrassed as she approached and said, “Miss Jian, hello, I’m Jiang Hui. I’m sorry to keep you waiting for so long.”
“No, not at all! I just arrived myself. You must be Ms. Jiang Hui, right?” The other party was evidently a very approachable young woman, with brown hair and brown eyes. She had distinct features of a Euro-Baulo ethnicity, yet her facial contours also possessed a softness characteristic of some East Asian descent, giving her a classical beauty. Her overall demeanor was friendly and comfortable.
Jiang Hui had a very good impression of her, even better than what she had felt when seeing her in the photos.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the two quickly got down to discussing the upcoming meeting with the Hailusi Group. They talked about the situation regarding the meeting; although they had covered most of it yesterday, it was clear that they needed to confirm everything again today.
Jian once again expressed her deep sympathy for Jiang Hui’s situation and condemned the Hailusi Group for being such an irresponsible company, assuring her that she would handle the matter diligently.
The two quickly reached a consensus, and the atmosphere was quite pleasant.
Seeing that it was almost time, they settled the bill and walked directly to the nearby headquarters of the Hailusi Group for their scheduled meeting.
On the way, Jiang Hui felt an unprecedented sense of calm.
