Chapter 32: Vermillion City Part - 3
The morning sun bathed the training field just outside Vermilion City in golden light. Ethan stood tall with a determined expression, ready to put his Pokémon through a rigorous training session. Today, the spotlight would be on Scyther, Spearow, Magikarp, and Sylveon.
Dratini and Cleffa, being younger and less experienced, were left to relax nearby, watching the older Pokémon train.
"Alright, team," Ethan began, clapping his hands together. "Let's give it everything we've got today! Spearow, this is your first real training session, so let's make it count!"
Spearow chirped in response, its small wings flaring with excitement.
Ethan started with Spearow, whose recent growth had made it ready for proper training. It flapped its wings, eager to show off its newfound energy and potential.
"Okay, Spearow, let's work on your flight control and attack precision," Ethan said. He threw a set of lightweight targets into the air. "Use Peck to break them!"
Spearow took off with a sharp cry, flitting through the air with a mixture of speed and awkwardness. Its first few attempts at hitting the targets were clumsy, with its beak grazing one but missing the others entirely.
"That's alright!" Ethan encouraged. "Focus on your timing and aim for the center!"
Spearow circled back, its sharp eyes locking onto the next target. This time, it struck cleanly, shattering the lightweight disk midair.
"Yes! That's it!" Ethan cheered.
To make things more challenging, Ethan tossed multiple targets into the air at different heights. Spearow struggled at first, its small wings working overtime to adjust to the erratic movements. But with each attempt, its flight became more controlled, and its strikes grew more precise.
"You've got this, Spearow!" Ethan called as the bird Pokémon shattered the final target with a triumphant cry.
Next, Ethan turned to Scyther, his powerhouse. While Scyther was already skilled in battle, Ethan wanted to enhance its precision and endurance.
"Scyther, let's focus on your slicing accuracy," Ethan said, setting up a line of thick wooden logs. "Use Fury Cutter to slice these cleanly."
Scyther buzzed in agreement, its blades glinting as it stepped forward. With a swift motion, it struck the first log, slicing it neatly in two.
"Nice!" Ethan said. "Now keep going—but faster this time!"
Scyther moved to the next log, its movements a blur as it attacked. The slices were clean and precise, but as the pace quickened, Scyther began to show signs of strain.
"Take a deep breath, Scyther!" Ethan called. "You've got the strength—just focus on controlling it."
Scyther adjusted its stance and began to pace itself, delivering strikes with calculated precision. By the end of the drill, the field was littered with neatly halved logs, and Scyther stood proudly, its blades gleaming in the sunlight.
"Perfect work, Scyther," Ethan said with a smile.
Magikarp's training had always been a challenge, but Ethan knew the effort would pay off.
"Alright, Magikarp, let's work on your jumping power," Ethan said, leading it to a shallow pond nearby.
Magikarp flopped into the water, its eyes gleaming with determination.
"Start with Splash! Jump as high as you can!"
Magikarp wriggled fiercely, launching itself out of the water in a small arc. It landed with a splash, sending ripples across the surface.
"Not bad, but let's aim higher!" Ethan encouraged.
Magikarp tried again, its jumps growing slightly higher with each attempt. Sylveon joined in, using its ribbons to create small whirlpools that Magikarp had to jump over.
"Great teamwork, Sylveon!" Ethan said.
Magikarp's movements became more fluid as it adjusted to the challenge, its splashes growing stronger and more controlled.
"Keep it up, Magikarp! You're getting there!" Ethan cheered, tossing a berry into the water as a reward.
Sylveon, ever graceful, was already a reliable partner, but Ethan wanted to push its versatility further.
"Sylveon, let's focus on combining moves," Ethan said, setting up targets and obstacles.
Sylveon's ribbons shimmered as it prepared for the drill. "Use Swift to hit the targets while dodging the incoming swings!" Ethan instructed, releasing a set of weighted pendulums.
Sylveon fired a flurry of glowing stars, striking the targets with pinpoint accuracy while weaving gracefully through the swinging pendulums.
"Great work, Sylveon! Now use Protect while maintaining your attack!"
Sylveon's ribbons glowed as it formed a protective barrier around itself, continuing to fire Swift from within. The seamless combination of offense and defense left Ethan in awe.
"You're a natural, Sylveon," he said as the Fairy-type twirled happily, its ribbons spiraling around it.
As the session wound down, Ethan gave his Pokémon a short break. He handed out berries, watching as they eagerly devoured the treats.
Spearow, still excited from its first training session, decided to show off by perching on Ethan's head. However, its small talons slipped, and it tumbled onto Ethan's shoulder, flapping wildly to regain its balance.
"Hey! Careful up there!" Ethan said, laughing as Spearow chirped apologetically.
Meanwhile, Magikarp, in its eagerness to grab a berry, accidentally splashed Scyther with water. The Bug-type glared at Magikarp, its blades raised menacingly. Sylveon quickly intervened, using its ribbons to playfully flick water at both of them, diffusing the tension with a splash war.
"Alright, you three, that's enough chaos for one day," Ethan said, shaking his head with a grin.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, Ethan recalled Scyther, Spearow, and Magikarp into their Pokéballs, leaving Sylveon out to accompany him.
"Great job today, everyone," Ethan said, his heart swelling with pride. "Spearow, you're starting to show real promise. Scyther, you're sharper than ever. Magikarp, you're proving that determination pays off. And Sylveon… well, you're always amazing."
With his team rested and ready for the next adventure, Ethan headed back to Vermilion City, a plan forming in his mind for their upcoming battles.
