Chapter 512: Chapter 512: The Gods' Fear
Under the watchful gaze of the three colossal deific avatars, each towering at a hundred meters, the space before them rippled. Two silver-white metallic hands pierced through the fabric of reality, gripping either side as if it were tangible. With a powerful tear, the hands widened the rift, and a gigantic metal figure, equally a hundred meters tall, strode through the expanding spatial passage to stand before the three deities.
"What brings you here?" The mechanized avatar, a temporary extension of the Machine Emperor's will, asked in a resonant voice.
"An avatar?" Pelor, the Sun God, displayed a fleeting look of displeasure upon seeing the metal giant. The deities had descended in their avatars to meet with the Titans due to the constraints of the world's laws. Otherwise, they would have manifested in person, given the gravity of the matter they sought to discuss with the Epic Titans.
While the gods had no choice but to descend as avatars, the fact that the Machine Emperor merely sent an avatar to meet them, without any of the other Titans showing up, was deeply disrespectful. It was as if the Titans didn't regard the gods seriously at all.
"Lord Osiris, we are here to discuss the use of the Stellar Orbital Cannon," Tyr, the God of Justice, immediately stated their purpose without any pleasantries.
Twenty-four years had passed since the Titans' epic battle that resulted in the deaths of four gods. The ripples from that event had yet to subside and were even growing more intense, largely because of the presence of the Stellar Orbital Cannon. This weapon had instilled a deep sense of fear among the gods.
The weapon's destructive capability seemed designed to target them specifically. The Storm Lord Talos, an aggressive and volatile deity, had his divine realm pierced despite surrendering his dignity and having the Titans deliberately go easy on him.
As for the Ocean Goddess Umberlee, her fate was even more dire. During her battle with Archimonde, the Lord of the Wilderness, it was clear that he couldn't kill her within her divine realm and was even at risk of being counterattacked. However, a single blast from the Stellar Orbital Cannon turned the tide decisively. Umberlee fell, decapitated by Archimonde, and her divine essence was shattered. The cannon had played a critical role in this god-slaying battle. Without it, Umberlee's fall would have been impossible.
This outcome naturally terrified the gods. Their divine realms moved too slowly to evade the cannon's slow-charging but inevitably precise strikes. If Osiris chose to target them, they were sure to be hit.
For weaker deities, even one shot was a death sentence. For more powerful ones, like the Storm God, multiple strikes would be just as fatal. Only the supreme deities, detached from worldly affairs, could potentially withstand the cannon's power.
"Is there a problem with my orbital cannon?" Osiris's mechanized avatar asked, feigning ignorance. He had anticipated the gods' reaction perfectly.
"The gods are deeply fearful of your Stellar Orbital Cannon," Lathander, the Dawn God, spoke plainly, laying bare the current sentiment among the pantheon without any pretense.
"And you, Lathander, do you fear it?" Osiris inquired directly.
"I believe I can withstand the Stellar Orbital Cannon," Lathander replied confidently, being one of the most likely candidates to ascend to the rank of a supreme deity in the world of Erathia.
"Then why are you here?" Osiris probed further.
"I'm here for my subordinate deities. They could be annihilated by your cannon."
"As long as they fulfill their responsibilities and do not provoke us, they will not be targeted," Osiris reassured.
"Such a guarantee is not enough to satisfy us," interjected Pelor, the Sun God. Hearing Lathander's confidence in withstanding the cannon had stirred a storm of envy and jealousy within him. His incomplete solar authority meant he could never fully master the entire domain of the sun, a privilege shared among several solar deities. Thus, the prospect of ever ascending to a supreme deity remained out of reach for him.
"Why should I care about satisfying you gods?" The mechanized avatar of Osiris looked at Pelor as if he were a fool. Lathander had spoken diplomatically, but Pelor's words bordered on arrogance.
"Osiris, you must understand, the existence of the Stellar Orbital Cannon poses a severe threat to the survival of all deities. If you do not dismantle and destroy this weapon, the gods may unite to oppose the Titan race," Pelor declared.
"Are you threatening the Titan race? If you want a war, bring it on!" A scornful voice echoed in the ears of the three deities before Osiris could respond.
"Dreadlord of the Ancient Prison, I cannot speak for other deities, but neither I nor my subordinate gods will ever be enemies of the Lawful Titans," Lathander quickly distanced himself from Pelor's rash declaration, unwilling to be associated with such an unwise stance.
"I concur. I represent the gods of justice and guarantee that we will never be enemies of the Titans," Tyr added, also clarifying his position. The inherent nature of the Titans aligned them as natural allies, not adversaries.
"I was merely stating a possibility, not intending any offense," Pelor backpedaled, feeling the pressure as Lathander and Tyr disassociated from him. Despite his powerful status, he lacked the standing to threaten the Titans genuinely.
"Hmph!" Seeing Pelor relent, Osiris's avatar snorted dismissively. "The purpose of the Stellar Orbital Cannon is to combat threats from the void, not to target you deities. I acknowledge that deities are the guardians of the world, and I have no intention of using the cannon against any god, provided they do not provoke the Titans."
Having spoken, Osiris's avatar cast a glance at Pelor, whose body emanated radiant sunlight like a humanoid torch, causing the Sun God to feel a surge of unease.
"In the void, the Stellar Orbital Cannon is vital for combating certain hostile gods who cultivate armies within worlds as their cradles. I built the cannon specifically to target such worlds," Osiris explained, revealing the cannon's primary purpose and indirectly asserting his stance.
