Chapter 67
Chapter 67
--------------------------------
The members of the Crimson Thief Guild numbered a lot and had to prepare camps in the open area to stay.
There was a festive atmosphere in the air as the forces of the Camp were able to defeat an unimaginable foe.
Every civilian was proud of their guards and were preparing a grand feast from their own pockets to celebrate the event.
The guards didn't look that excited though, as they had received orders from above to let the newcomers take over while they were advised to give their bodies their deserved rest.
As the guards looked at the discipline and attitude of the newcomers, they couldn't help but compare themselves and ended up feeling a lot worse as they realised how dull they themselves had been.
The higher ups among the Camp Leaders had been called for a meeting and had gathered up in a conference room.
There was an air of unease among them as they wondered what the future would be like with the new arrivals.
That was when, the Camp Leader, Emma walked inside the room and took the frontmost position, as she looked at each of her surviving members.
She took a deep breath before looking at them all again and spoke,
[Everyone.. I know that I definitely disappointed you guys. I failed to lead you when you needed me the most.]
[I.. accept my incompetence. You guys are alive and well today not because of me, but due to the reinforcements from your Commander of that battle.]
[For the sake of preventing such invasions from happening in the future, I have decided to make some significant changes. Firstly, the new soldiers would be the one training you guys in combat and reconnaissance exercises. A General from their side would look over the training.]
[Secondly, I must change my priority from just managing the Camp to protecting it, and as such I must execute some secret missions. For the sake of completing them, I would have to step down from the position of the Camp Leader.]
[The new Camp Leader would be Zendra. You guys were well led by her during the battle and she has been a great presence through the years. She is more than qualified to inherit that position.]
[Thirdly, our Camp has signed a protection deal with the newcomers and the envoy from their side would be Adrian, the man who commanded the battle. I expect all of you to treat them with respect, since our future and theirs are now aligned and any skirmish, no matter small or big would be determinal to our union.]
[Our Camp would be focusing on strengthening our military strength and as such, I want you guys to be prepared to lead everyone else by example.]
[Lastly... I would like to apologise to you all for being an incompetent leader. I promise to work hard in my new capacity and pray for the safety of everyone. Farewell.]
A commotion rose as soon as Emma declared her intentions. She was approached by many to convince her to change her mind, but she remained adamant about her decision.
Zendra came to stand near Emma and looked at her emotionally. She knew that she won't change her mind and this could probably be their last meeting together.
Emma smiled lightly and hugged Zendra close to herself as she spoke to her,
[Take care, Zendra. I know that you would do a great job leading everyone. Make me proud.]
Zendra buried her head into Emma's shoulders as she sobbed while hugging her back.
After calming the new Camp Leader, Emma looked at everyone around her, before she turned to walk out of the room, leaving the officials with their new leader.
-----------------------------------------
After walking away from the conference room, Emma sadly glanced around herself as she found herself all alone.
(...I did this for so long now...I wonder how I would get used to any of this...)
The sounds of footsteps started to echo from one side of the street, prompting Emma to look up at the source.
Adrian walked out from the shadows as he glanced at Emma standing like that.
[Hey there, Camp Leader. Out for a walk, right?]
Adrian came near her as he stood beside her and glanced at the people busy in preparing for the feast.
Emma was feeling very low and winded, as she felt like letting out the indignation from inside her.
[I.. am unsure of what to do next. I have spent majority of my time tending to this place that I don't know how to live any other way..]
Adrian had no clue as to why Emma was asking her that, but he thought it would be too rude to ask her about it and tried his best to answer her query regardless.
[Hmm.. Well, I can only speak from my own experience. I had my friends alongside me after I left my home and it's because of them that I could so easily adapt to everything. If it wasn't for them, then I am sure that I would be very lost in this world.]
Emma glanced at Adrian's side profile, as she remembered the promise she made with Floriana.
A little blush appeared on her face as she tried to glance away, but ended up looking back at him again.
[I-Is it possible... for us to t-travel together...]
Adrian turned back to stare at Emma immediately, as she had turned away from him again to hide her embarrassment.
(...eh?.. she wants to go with us?.. but, I am not planning to go anywhere el.. AH!!...)
That was when Adrian remembered something important and tried to think things through.
(... If we have the Camp Leader with us then.. surely our survival possibilities would increase a lot... she knows about the local areas and political affairs more than any of us...)
After deciding his plan, he turned to look at Emma, who happened to be staring at him expectantly.
He tried to give her a refreshing smile as he spoke,
[Of course. If the Camp Leader agrees, then I have no objections.]
Immediately, butterflies started to dance around in Emma's belly, as a natural smile came upon her happy face.
[Emma. Call me Emma from now on.]
The two made a nice picture together, as a young looking Adrian and a mature and sexy beauty Emma joined forces together.
Unknown to Adrian that, this Union would last forever... obsessively...
