Chapter 66
Chapter 66
----------------------------
Adrian and the remaining guards prepared themselves as they grabbed their weapons and waited for the remaining soldiers to climb up on the Camp Wall.
Even if they were vastly outnumbered, it wasn't as hopeless as when they had been surrounded by the massive Army and the seige weapons.
Now, their Camp Wall and the Gates were still standing and the only way left for the enemy soldiers was to climb on the walls and encounter the guards on top of it.
Martin was feeling a rush of adrenaline as his force closed on in near the Camp. He had been too deeply affected by the utter destruction of his Army and couldn't help but fall into madness and desperation. He didn't wanted to let this event become a shadow in his heart.
[Ah! Young Master! We found him!]
[Eh? He is fighting against these men?]
[Attack! Kill all of them! How dare they challenge our Young Master?!]
That was when, the sudden shouts and curses became faintly audible, as the soldiers under Martin turned to look back. And they were utterly horrified upon doing so.
A large group of people were coming towards them from their back. Martin trembled in his boots as he estimated their numbers to be around 8000.
(...how the fuck did the Camp get so much backup?...)
Realizing what was about to come, Martin whispered something to his few key authorities and quietly slipped away under the roars of the incoming intruders.
The soldiers under him realized a bit late that their authority figures had suddenly vanished and they had been abandoned to fend for themselves.
[That Martin! He duped us!]
[AHHHH! I was a fool to believe in that snake!!]
[Hurry! Change direction! We have enemies on our backs.]
The sudden event caused widespread confusion among the soldiers, as they were unable to react to anything and quickly found themselves surrounded by the incomers dressed in black.
The soldiers quickly threw their weapons away and kneeled down to surrender. They had no reason to continue to fight anymore and hoped to be able to live through the failed battle.
----------------------------------
The guards on the City Wall became anxious immediately, as they had no idea whether the new arrivals were friend or foe.
[Where have these people come from?]
[So many strange things happening today.]
Adrian though, had recognized most of them and became visibly relieved and turned to speak to Zendra.
[It's okay. These are my friends. The battle is over now.]
Zendra looked at the large number of 'friends' that Adrian had and became startled immediately. She was glad that he was so capable and rejoiced about the safety of the civilians of the Camp.
The fatality rate was minimal and most of the guards in the battle had only received injuries of various degrees.
As Adrian found his mom within the crowd below, he smiled towards her and quickly waved his hands.
(...Mom is really the best!...she came to save me herself!...)
Floriana too, noticed Adrian's signal and a small smile crept upon her frosty face.
(...I'm glad you are alright, son...Hah..let's deal with this mess then...)
She then turned to glare at the men groveling at her feet ad sternly spoke,
[Decide. You guys wish to live in prison or die right here?]
------------------------------------------
The remaining soldiers were all taken inside the Camp and were imprisoned in the new Prison area.
The members of the Crimson Thief Guild marched into the Camp and waited near the entrance, as they were welcomed by Adrian himself.
Drone quickly ran up to Adrian and hugged his feet as he spoke,
[I'm sorry that it took so long, Young Master! Your faithful Drone is back again.]
Adrian patted Drone's shoulder, as he spoke to him with an embarrassed smile,
[Well done, Drone. You did your task very well.]
The other guild members approached and spoke with Adrian too, as it had been a while since they saw him again.
Floriana, on the other hand demanded a meeting with the Camp Leader. The two went inside a room to talk, as the others were left waiting outside.
----------------------------------------
Floriana walked inside and sat down on a chair, as she looked at Emma up and down.
[Hmmm.. so you're the in-charge here? I was told that you had been removed from power and some other guy was the new in-charge?]
Emma kept standing near the door, as she replied,
[Yes. I am the one presently leading this Camp. My name is Emmaneula. I do want to ask one thing firstly.. are you here to give aid or to interrogate me?]
Floriana smiled to herself, as she grabbed Emma by her shoulders and made her sit in a chair near her.
She paced behind her, as she softly spoke,
[Before coming inside, I questioned some of the prisoners about the events that had transpired. It turned out that you couldn't even lead the battle by yourself and my son was the one leading the others?]
Emma felt her conscience hurting, as a guilty and embarrassed expression came onto her face,
[Yes.. I-I couldn't control myself..]
[Hmmmm~ You know I also think that you couldn't manage to separate traitors from your allies, which is why you lost the control in the first place, right?]
Emma looked down in shame, as she couldn't give a direct answer.
Floriana continued to stare at Emma as she spoke,
[Can you guarantee the safety of the citizens of the Camp in any future conflict?]
Emma became very uncomfortable, as she tried to avoid Floriana's glare.
[I-I think...]
Floriana now bent down at Emma's eye level and spoke while directly staring at her face,
[Then.. do you think that you are qualified to lead this place any longer?]
Emma tried to repel the accusations, but the truth of her failure hampered her voice, as she quietly sat still.
Floriana sighed slightly, as she turned back to sit on her chair. She crossed her legs and hugged her bountiful chest, as she glared at Emma.
[Honestly, I wanted to kill you when I found out about how things turned out... but, a certain 'Prince' gave me some very interesting information. He begged to let him go and since he was an idiot, I did let them go... after sending some of my teams after them. They would be great pieces of the puzzle I plan to create.]
Floriana then moved to whisper something in Emma's ears, upon hearing which, her body trembled as she looked at Floriana with a look of surprise.
On the other hand, Floriana looked almost unaffected and simply sat back down on her seat.
[So, what is your choice? I made things to be pretty simple for you, right?]
Emma looked up at the ceiling to consider her options and tried to feel her own will. Upon thinking things over, her eyes gained clarity and relief, as she calmly looked at Floriana and spoke,
[I accept your proposal... G-Greetings.. Mother-in-Law.]
Floriana smiled heartily as she grabbed Emma by her shoulders and hugged her close to herself.
[You made the right decision. Now, don't worry about anything. You are part of the family now. Your problems are my own now. Just be careful... do not betray or hurt my son. Otherwise... I can't guarantee what I might end up doing.]
Emma had no major reaction to that, as she felt the warmth of family within Floriana's embrace and the long lost familial affection rose within her. She hugged her back, as she placed her head on Floriana's bosom.
[M-Mother..]
