The Owl House: Son of Edalyn (Owlphibia AU)

Chapter 6: Missing

In her room, Eda was in her casual clothing as she slept soundly in her large nest.

When, suddenly- ((*FRAAAASSSHH!*))

Eda snorted as she was startled awake by a blinding flash of light.

She initially thought it was lightning...BUT, there wasn't a cloud in the sky outside.

(("EDAAAAAAAAAAA!")) screamed a voice.

"huh?, wa-what?!" mumbled Eda, half asleep.

The bedroom door suddenly slammed open as King rushed in,

his tiny arms swinging up and down like a hummingbird.

"EDA!, EDA!, EDA!, EDA!" exclaimed King, panicking.

"KING!?" exclaimed Eda, bewildered. "What in the Realm is going on!?"

"It's OLIVIER!, HE'S GONE!" exclaimed King, shaking his stubby arms.

"WHAT!?" exclaimed Eda, alarmed.

"HE DISAPPEARED!" continued King. "I think it was a Magic Trap!"

Eda immediately stood up. "SHOW ME."

[Later, in Olivier's Room.]

Eda (now dressed in her usual attire) gripped her staff firmly as she stood in Olivier's room.

The room was a mess. However, being a mother, she could tell the difference

between the typical mess of a teenager, and a mess that implied disaster.

..and, even without magic, she could tell that something unnatural just happened here.

"King..I need you to REALLY think about what happened here,

because the slightest detail could be important." spoke Eda, trying to stay calm.

"now..Did you SEE Olivier disappear?" asked Eda.

"Yeah!" replied King. "I had only just opened the door when it happened.

He was sitting at his desk over there..and, then "KA-ZAP!", he just vanished!"

Eda squinted her golden eyes. She wondered if this was one of the Emperor's tricks,

and, titan forbid if he WAS responsible for Olivier's apparent disappearance.

Wanted Witch, or not. If Olivier WAS being held captive by Emperor Belos,

Then, she would storm his castle, and fight the Emperor herself to get her son back.

Eda approached the desk, and inspected it closely.

If Olivier had fallen victim to a magic trap as King seemed to believe,

then she could sense the lingering magic of whatever spell had been cast.

..and, she felt the remnant of very STRONG magic from the desk.

Eda quickly drew a spell circle with her finger, and put her hand through the golden ring.

As she pulled her hand back, it was now shrouded with pulsing gold energy that was like steam.

With her palm open, Eda waved her magic over the area of the desk when she sensed the most magic.

This caused her magic to mold into a shape. an Echo of what was once there.

The construct looked like a small chest.

"some kind of box was here..a box shaped like a Chest." spoke Eda.

"Clearly a Magic Trap, as you said. but..it REEKS of foreign magic."

"oh, no.." spoke King, looking worried. "that stupid thing was the real deal!"

Eda glared down at the demon. "KING...is there SOMETHING you should be telling me?!"

King looked down, a guilty look on his face. "well...see, there was this old man in market street."

Eda palmed her face. "by the titans, you didn't.."

"Yeah, we did." said King. "He was giving away FREE STUFF!"

"Nothing in the Boiling Isles is ever "Free!" exclaimed Eda, officially angry.

"Nobody just GIVES AWAY something that is magical, UNLESS they have a hidden agenda!"

King had a sad look on his face...which made Eda feel bad for him.

"king..What did Olivier take from this man?"

"S-Some kind of Music Box." spoke King. "It was wooden, hand-carved and had three jewels on it."

Eda paused to ponder these clues. "three jewels?, hmmm..."

"Does that sound familiar?" asked King.

"maybe..I'm not sure." spoke Eda, deep in thought.

"okay, ummm...I know!" exclaimed King. "M-Maybe we can find the old man, an-"

"It will do no good." spoke Eda, grasping the palisman of her staff.

"This man CLEARLY meant to set a trap to amuse himself. He will be LONG GONE by now."

"Then, what do we do?!" exclaimed King.

Eda looked upon the wooden form of Owlbert...and, then sighed sharply.

"it seems I have no choice.." whispered Eda.

"Huh?"

"stay here..I am going out to seek help." said Eda, as she turned and walked away.

"You know someone who can help?" questioned King.

"perhaps." said Eda, pausing for a moment. "we've always had our differences.

But, I am desperate...Desperate enough to even ask HER for help."

King widened his eyes. "you mean.."

Eda approached a window, and opened it. Owlbert then came to life, and hopped onto Eda's finger.

Eda brought the tiny Owl closer, and spoke softly: "find my sister..bring her to me."

Owlbert nodded, and then took flight. Eda sighed as she watched the tiny owl disappear

..silently wondering if she was doing the right thing.

[Later That Night..]

Somewhere in a dark forest, a tall, slender figure in black hooded garbs trekked carefully down a path, and past the skeletal trees.

In time, Lilith Clawthorne arrived at her destination. To anyone else, it was just another area of the black forest.

..but, to Lilith, it meant so much more.

As the witch gazed at her surroundings, illusions from the distant past seemed to materialize before her.

Phantoms of two witch children running through the forest appeared to approach her.

One child had wild red hair. the other had curly red hair of a dully color, and round glasses.

Lilith watched the wild child trip over a log, and skin her knee.

She cried. gaining the attention of the curly haired child.

(("with this spell declared..")) spoke the curly haired child. (("..let the pain be shared."))

Lilith watched as the curly haired child now sported a skinned knee herself.

As the two children laughed, Lilith turned away. Unable to look upon her past any longer.

"hello, sister.."

Lilith looked to see a hooded figure with a brown staff approach. "Edalyn.." spoke Lilith.

Eda pulled back her hood, and approached.

"I trust you aren't here to pick a fight...not if you wanted to meet HERE." spoke Lilith.

"Just as I trust you came alone, and there isn't an ambush waiting for me nearby." retorted Eda.

Lilith scowled. "despite what you might think, I still hold my family in high regard."

"good to hear.." spoke Eda, her expression unreadable. "because that is why I arranged this meeting."

Lilith looked confused...so, Eda continued. "my son..Olivier. something has..Happened."

Lilith widened her green eyes, looking alarmed. "What happened?..is he hurt!?"

"I don't know..." answered Eda. "He acquired something from the market...something that made him disappear."

"Disappear!?"

Eda sighed as she held her head. "It's my fault...I should've been there with him.

But, I was busy preparing for his birthday earlier. Now, he's gone...and, I have no idea where."

Lilith wanted to question if Olivier was even still alive...but, she pushed away such thoughts.

she instead looked at Eda. and, noting how distressed she looked, slowly approached her.

Letting her guard down, the dark haired witch placed a comforting hand upon her sister's shoulder.

"it isn't your fault.." spoke Lilith, softly. "You are a GOOD mother, Edalyn...Better than our own mom was."

Eda smiled weakly. "thank you."

"Is there anything I can do to help?" asked Lilith.

"I don't know...All I do know is that some 'magical music box' is what sent my son away." began Eda.

"King said it was carved wood, and bore three gemstones upon it...and, It reeked of Foreign Magic."

Lilith touched her chin as she pondered this. "I suppose I could have a look in the Emperor's Archives.

If I can identify this music box, I might be able to create a counter spell to bring Olivier back."

"That would put my mind at ease." said Eda. "just..one other thing."

Lilith looked to her sister. "Yes, Edalyn?"

"DO NOT tell Emperor Belos about this." said Eda, sternly.

"Edalyn..be reasonable." spoke Lilith. "If I fail to find anything in the archives, perhaps the Emperor could-"

"NO, Lilith." repeated Eda. "I don't want him to know ANYTHING about my son, AM I CLEAR!?"

Lilith stared at Eda. "I don't understand why you are against this.

Wasn't joining the Emperor's Coven always our DREAM since we were children?!"

"yes, it was...but, I've grown up since then." said Eda, sternly.

"EDALYYYN.."

"PROMISE ME you won't tell the Emperor about this.." demanded Eda. "SWEAR TO ME, YOU WON'T!"

Lilith stared at Eda...and, then sighed. "very well. I *SWEAR* to keep my nephew's name

from the ears of the Coven...BUT, this will only make it HARDER for me to help you."

"just do what you can, Lil...and, I'll do what I can."

Lilith watched as her sister took flight with her staff, and flew away.

Once she was long gone, Lilith allowed herself to think more clearly on what was happening.

Olivier..her Nephew, was missing. a victim of a Magic Trap.

Lilith grasped her head, dread starting to consume the usually reserved sorceress.

Edalyn did not know...NO ONE knew, just how close she really was to 'The Owl Lady's Son'.

Lilith quickly reached into her pocket, and brought out her 'Penstagram' phone.

She tapped it with her thumb, and brought up her personal photo gallery.

The first image was of herself, and Edalyn when they were teenagers in Hexside.

But, she swiped it away for a more recent picture: One of herself, and Olivier when he was a young child.

Edalyn taught her son far too well. She didn't know that since a young age,

Olivier would sometimes sneak out of that Owl House, and visit his 'Aunt Lily' at the Emperor's Castle.

(How he slipped pass any of the Imperial Guards , even Lilith could never figure out.)

Lilith smiled as she remembered fondly those nights when they were together.

He would talk about his day, and she would listen to his every word.

And, sometimes when she was sure no one else was there,

Lilith would take Olivier to the sparring arena, and teach him HER magic.

She would teach him self control. and, spells that even Edalyn didn't know.

Lilith would always remember how PROUD she felt watching Olivier's magic grow stronger.

..and, it made her feel even more envious of her sister.

sometimes...Lilith wished that SHE were Olivier's mother, instead of Edalyn.

Olivier has such great potential. Under HER guidance, he might even surpass the Emperor's power.

(okay, perhaps not HIS power..but, still quite powerful)

But, now..Olivier was in trouble. spirited away to parts unknown.

Lilith wondered where her nephew could be...and, if he was even okay.

(Was he in the Human Realm?, Lilith hoped to the Titans that WASN'T the case.

Humans were Dangerous, and would certainly BURN Olivier alive if they ever learned of his true nature.)

Wherever he was, Lilith was determined to bring him back.

And, while there was no doubt Edalyn would try just as hard: She was STILL cursed.

and, as such, might not be strong enough to save Olivier.

Lilith then smiled smugly as she pulled her hood back over her head,

and proceeded to walk back the way she came to the Emperor's Castle.

Edalyn was RIGHT to seek her help. If any witch was powerful enough for this task..

..then, it certainly was 'Aunt Lilith Clawthorn of the Emperor's Coven.'

[Meanwhile, Back At the Owl House.]

As the front door opened, Eda let out a sharp sigh as she flopped down onto her sofa.

"You're BACK!" exclaimed King. "..how did it go with Lilith?"

Eda shrugged. "she says she'll search through Belos' archives." answered Eda.

"If that BONE HEAD knows anything about this magic music box thing...WE'LL know soon enough."

King didn't look very relieved. "I'm not sure I trust Liith.."

"to be honest..neither do I." said Eda. "But, I HAVE to believe that some part of the sister

that I knew still exist inside her, And that 'Lily' will help me...if for no reason, than to save her "nephew."

Eda had to smirk when she finished her sentence.

"So..we just sit around, and do nothing?!" exclaimed King.

"NO. Olivier is my whole LIFE, and is too important entrust Lilith entirely." spoke Eda, who rose back up.

"no..there is something else I can do. It's a long shot, but my options are few right now."

Eda drew out a familiar key, and pressed the button on it. Her suitcase then shifted into a wooden door with an Owl's eye upon it.

..Her Portal into the Human Realm of Earth.

"You think Olivier is in the human world?" questioned King.

"doubtful." answered Eda, who inserted her key into the door's keyhole.

Eda then twisted the key in specific directions. Almost like a Code.

The eye upon both the door and key flashed, and Eda removed her key.

"What are you doing?" asked King.

Eda smirked at King. "going to a specific place. one I haven't been to for years." began Eda.

"It was long before I met you, King...When the heat got too hot here,

there was ONE PLACE where I was always safe from Lilith, and the Emperor's guards."

Eda then opened the door...and, on the other side was a dirt trail into a strange forest.

"Stay here, and await my return." said Eda.

"oh-okay..get back, soon." said King. "and, Eda...I'm really sorry."

Eda smiled at the demon. "It's okay, King...I already forgave you."

If King could smile, he would be right now. "thank you."

Eda smiled again, before facing the open door into another world.

Inhaling deeply, she walked through the door...which disappeared behind her.

Tucking her key back to the Demon Realm back in her pocket, Eda gazed at her surroundings.

Not much had changed since the last time she was here many years ago.

So, she took the same path she always had. Even now, she had it memorized so well,

that she could walk it blindfolded (or, with no eyes at all.)

In no time at all...Eda finally reached her destination: a log cabin within a woodland clearing.

..a cabin that read: "MYSTERY (S)HACK" upon the roof.
