Chapter 4: Ch 4 - Pepper Potts
"Where is this?... Why haven't I returned to my world?"
Seph looked around and observed the endless darkness, finding no signs of life. He was confused since according to Hel, he should have been able to return back to his world after she impaled herself with his sword.
"Fufu~... are you still confused? You're such a child..."
While he was searching for any change or signs of Life in that endless darkness, a giggle echoed in that space.
"Hel!" Seph's eyes lit up in joy when he heard that familiar voice. "You... You're still alive! That's great."
"You're so cute but I am not alive anymore. This is the last thread of my consciousness that I put into your head to explain things that I can't when you're alive."
The voice didn't seem to hear him and just continued to explain.
"I'm sorry to say this but... your world doesn't exist anymore. And before you get all confused, let me explain... You spend a mega annum and in that time frame, your world has vanished due to the great calamities that struck it due to the humans' greed as they crossed the line and challenged nature!"
"If I had told you beforehand, you might have turned weak so I hid it from you. For your sake, I used some of the last remaining strength of mine to find the souls of your family and let them get reincarnated somewhere in the vast cluster of universes. I know I am being selfish and only think about myself but I hope you will forget about me and live for the sake of your parents who might be living somewhere. Live well and... don't forget to control your powers since you might accidentally destroy a world with my powers..."
Slowly, the voice turned distant and everything turned silent.
"NOOO! WAIT!!" Seph woke up from that mysterious and weird state as he raised his hand to stop Hel but what came into his view was an unfamiliar wall.
He was currently naked in the bed with his body sweating profusely, drenched in his sweat.
Seph ignored the unfamiliar room and bit his lower lip in frustration as his chest tightened for no reason. His hands were clenched in fists as felt powerless, unable to save the person that he began to consider a family after such a long time.
*Bang!*
At that moment, someone pushed open the door and entered the room.
It was a young woman in her early thirties, with an elegant and composed demeanor that carried a hint of quiet strength.
Her long, auburn hair cascaded smoothly down her back, catching the light with a natural, glossy sheen. Her striking light blue eyes, clear and attentive, held a spark of intelligence that reflected her quick mind.
She was dressed in a delicate pink nightgown made of soft, flowing fabric that draped gracefully over her slender frame, giving her an air of gentle sophistication.
Even in such simple attire, she carried herself with the refined poise of someone used to balancing grace.
"Ah, you're finally awake," The woman said, her lips curving into a soft smile as she unconsciously nibbled on her lower lip. Her blue eyes roamed over him, lingering a bit longer than Seph felt comfortable with, and eventually stopping at his lower region before quickly darting back up to meet his gaze.
Seph shifted uncomfortably under her scrutinizing look, furrowing his brows in puzzlement. There was something unnervingly intimate about the way she was looking at him.
"Who are you?" He asked, his voice steady but laced with confusion.
The woman tilted her head, her expression playful and bemused. "That should be my question, don't you think?"
She stepped closer, folding her arms across her chest. "What exactly are you? You gave me the fright of my life last night. You were in such a state when you fell onto my car."
Seph's eyes widened slightly. 'Fell onto her car?'
The words made no sense to him.
He tilted his head, his confusion deepening. "In a mess? What are you talking about?"
Her smile faded, and her brows knitted in concern.
"You really don't remember?" She asked, her voice softening as she reached out to place her palm gently on his forehead, feeling for any sign of a fever. Her touch was warm and comforting, though it did little to ease the whirlwind of questions in his mind.
"It's possible," She murmured thoughtfully, "That you might've hit your head when you fell. You were in bad shape last night. Even your clothes were torn up and filthy. I wanted to take you to the hospital, but you woke up, even if just for a moment, and insisted I shouldn't."
Seph listened, trying to piece together the information she was giving him, but the more she spoke, the more lost he felt. Her words didn't align with anything he remembered, and he found himself growing frustrated at his own inability to recall anything useful. His mind felt like a puzzle with missing pieces.
Seeing the genuine confusion clouding his gaze, the woman frowned slightly, concern shadowing her blue eyes.
"You really have no idea, do you?" She murmured, half to herself. "It seems you might have taken quite the blow to the head during your fall. We'll have to get you to a hospital as soon as possible."
The words were meant for herself, but Seph heard them clearly, his heightened senses picking up on even the softest of whispers. His mind buzzed with questions, and he wished he had an answer for any of them.
The woman's face softened.
"You rest for now," She instructed, her tone leaving no room for argument. "I'll prepare something for you to eat, and then we'll figure out how to get you the medical attention you need."
Seph nodded slowly. "O-Okay,"
He felt strangely out of place and helpless in his current situation. Though he was used to handling chaos and danger, waking up in this unfamiliar place left him disoriented.
The woman turned on her heel, starting to leave the room, but she paused in the doorway. A smile returned to her lips as she glanced back at him.
"Oh, and by the way," She said lightly, "we never introduced ourselves. My name is Virginia Potts. And you are…?"
"Seph," He responded evenly, trying to match her casual demeanor despite the turmoil in his mind.
Pepper's smile widened, and she nodded.
"Nice to meet you, Seph," She said with a touch of humor in her voice, before stepping out of the room and gently closing the door behind her.
The moment she was gone, Seph's expression shifted. The smile faded from his lips, replaced by a look of wary contemplation. He closed his eyes, attempting to sift through his scattered thoughts and memories.
'Who was this woman? Where was he?'
As questions raced through his mind, one thing became abundantly clear—he needed answers, and he needed them soon.
A mysterious yet intangible aura radiated from his body and covered the entire room before moving forward and covering the entire flat.
'She has a decent place for herself. With two rooms and a nice Liverpool, kitchen and everything, she must have a good job to pay the rent of this place.'
Seph observed it for a few seconds before he expanded it further, covering the entire building and then the entire area. And in a few seconds, he covered the entire city.
'California, huh? I once came to this place during a mission...'
Seph could see everything that was happening in the city and that's how he guessed that he was in California, US.
Once he found out where he was, he stopped observing any further. He had no interest in peeking into the personal life of any person.
When he opened his eyes, he turned his head towards the window and muttered.
