The Heiress: Getting My Ex-Husband Back

Chapter 19: 19. Once a friend

Slowly, they both turned. While Pearl looked happy to see that auntie again, Diana was shocked, and Heath shared in her shock as his eyes landed on the little one.

Heath frowned as he turned to look at Anna and wondered if it was just a coincidence that they resembled each other so much. But with every second that passed, he doubted the possibility of a coincidence, but it was even more unbelievable the more he looked at it that way.

"I don't know if I should slap you or hug you," Diana's voice cut through Heath's train of thought, and his furrow deepened but Anna maintained her smile although feeling remorseful

"How about neither?" Anna said as she walked closer, but Diana moved to stand in front of Pearl.

"That sounds fine, although it's hard to do," Diana replied. She crossed her on her chest. Her eyes locked with those of Anna and asked. "Why did you come here after so long? You didn't expect to return here and be welcomed with open arms and warm hugs and parties, did you?"

Anna paused and looked down for a few seconds, feeling hurt by those words, but she knew they were true. Although she never came back here expecting any of that, hearing someone like Diana say them was hurtful. Diana was the jovial kind. Parties were no problem to her, and in minutes, she'll have the party ready to go. She was also one who liked physical contact. Hugs were her specialty, but she was withholding that, too.

"No," Anna said while shaking her head. She looked up at Diana again and saw her raise a brow in askance. "I shouldn't have left the way I did back then. There's so much I left behind and now… that's why I came back. I want to make things right. And if possible, take things back to the way there used to be." Anna said.

"I want to get back all that I lost, Diana. I know it'll be difficult, maybe even near impossible, but I am determined to stay and never leave again. I'll need your help," Anna looked between Dianaa and Pearl.

While Diana had a frown on her face, Pearl was confused, her young mind was unable to comprehend what the auntie was talking about.

"I don't think I can be of help to you, Anna. What you have asked is out of my reach. And I am still mad at you. You left without a word. No warning, now hints. Nothing. You just left. And until today, it would be safe to say that even if you died, no one would have known about it. As someone who was once your friend, that's very hurtful and you should know better than anyone else here, I cut off anyone who hurts me and the people I love," Diana said and Anna nodded.

"I am aware, and that's why I am glad that we can still talk like this. I hope that one day, I'll be able to earn your forgiveness and friendship again," Anna said, but Diana didn't reply to that.

It went silent for a while before she asked. "Will you tell me why you left?" Anna looked at her and pressed her lips together. She wasn't against telling her, but this just wasn't the right place to discuss matters as personal as this. "Fine. Not here. But you are going to tell me everything if you wish for my forgiveness."

"Thank you," Anna said, happy that she didn't press and understood her concern.

"Aunt Dia," Pearl called, looking up at Diana. Diana looked down, and her expression softened almost immediately.

"What is it, Princess?" Diana asked.

"Are you friends with Auntie Anna?" She asked, her eyes brimming with happiness. First, it was her daddy who knew Auntie Anna, and now it was her aunt Dia. It means she could get to see her beautiful auntie again.

"..." Diana paused at her question. Yes. They used to be friends, but she didn't know if the same term could be used here now. "Auntie Anna and I know each other." She replied, and Pearl nodded, but the three adults standing on the other side understood the meaning behind her words.

"Okay," Pearl smiled brightly.

"You know Auntie Anna?" Diana asked as she immediately thought of Lloyd. Did he know about this? Pearl nodded her head as she turned to look at Anna.

"I met her earlier. She was… Pearl likes Auntie Anna, and Daddy knows her too," she said.

So they've already met? Diana thought and let out a sigh of relief. At least she won't be blamed for their first encounter like this. Her eyes then shifted to the two people behind Anna, and she raised a brow.

"Right, this is Young Master Dillon, Heath Dillon. He is a friend. And she is Willow, my friend as well," Anna introduced. Willow blushed for being introduced as her boss's friend.

"You are too kind ma'am," Willow said, but Anna just smiled at her.

"This right here is Diana Frost. She and I were friends in college," she smiled subtly as she remembered the good old days.

"Miss Frost?" Heath uttered, his eyes locked on to the woman who was surprisingly a big shot. Who would have thought the sweets lover would turn out to be a name everyone in the business and entertainment circles knew of. He should have thought of it. After all, the broom today was none other than Damian Frost, her older brother, and they did look alike. "It's a pleasure meeting you, Miss Frost. I am sorry I didn't recognize you."

"That is all right, Mr Dillon. At least Anna did have friends over there after abandoning us here," she said even though she knew that would hurt.

Heath looked over at Anna and found her staring down with her lips pressed together. She did have some good connections, but he was still curious as to what happened between them that it was now awkward. In the end, he only smiled at Diana.

"And who might this little Cutie pie be?" he went down on a knee in front of Pearl. As he asked, his gaze found Anna, although it would have been more sensible if he looked at Diana instead or just waited for the little one to answer on her own.
