The God of Ice and Fire at Hogwarts

Chapter 111: Magical Chinese cabbages

"How... how is this possible?!"

Seeing the scene where Irina and the Venomous Tentacula were living in harmony, Professor Sprout suddenly exclaimed in surprise.

This was the first time she had seen a magical plant like the Venomous Tentacula actively touch a young witch. Normally, it would have attacked, but this time, it approached her instead.

Professor Sprout, the cultivator of the Venomous Tentacula, had only ever been able to prevent the plant from attacking. She had never dared to initiate contact with it.

Gently stroking the extended vines of the Venomous Tentacula, Irina remarked with some surprise, "Professor, it seems to be attached to me!"

Irina carefully extended her other hand to touch the Venomous Tentacula. The plant made no resistance to her touch, extending its vines to interact with her instead.

After a brief moment of shock, Professor Sprout accepted the fact that Irina had a special affinity for magical plants.

After all, this was a magical world where anything could happen!

"That's incredible, Miss Lowell! If it weren't for the Ministry of Magic's restrictions on young witches growing Venomous Tentaculas privately, I'd have given you one myself!"

Professor Sprout looked at the young witch before her with great affection, recognizing her special talent for herbology, and said with a warm smile.

Reluctantly, Irina let go of the Venomous Tentacula and turned to Professor Sprout again, "Alright, Professor. Let's check out the biting Chinese cabbage next!"

Having confirmed that Irina could make magical plants approach her, Professor Sprout no longer hesitated. She happily led Irina to the greenhouse where the biting Chinese cabbages were cultivated.

Upon arriving at the greenhouse, Irina saw an entire row of Chinese cabbages planted in clay pots.

The biting Chinese cabbage looked like a strange, outer cabbage, but inside, it had sharp leaves shaped like teeth. If a wizard were to accidentally get caught by one of these leaf-shaped teeth, they would likely die from the bite, and in the worst case, their body may not even remain intact.

"The biting Chinese cabbage is an extremely dangerous magical plant. Even if you have special talents with plants, you should still be careful!"

Professor Sprout said, indicating that even she wouldn't dare to get too close to the menacing magical plant.

Irina nodded cautiously and slowly approached one of the biting Chinese cabbages.

As Irina got closer, the cabbage suddenly opened its cabbage-like outer leaves, revealing its sharp, tooth-shaped inner leaves, facing Irina.

Irina almost closed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and extended her hand toward the cabbage. Soon, she felt an odd sensation as she touched it.

Irina was pleasantly surprised to discover that the biting Chinese cabbage did not mind her touch. While it didn't feel as attached to her as the Venomous Tentacula, Irina could still sense its proximity.

"Professor, can I try holding it?" Irina asked tentatively.

The biting Chinese cabbage could survive even if it left the ground, and it could even chase and kill enemies by biting them.

When facing a powerful Dark wizard, some magical botanists would throw the biting cabbage at the enemy and let the cabbage chase them down and bite them to death.

This is also why most wizards would never dare provoke a powerful botanical mage.

Professor Sprout was relieved when she saw the biting cabbage didn't attack Irina and nodded softly.

Irina carefully held the base of the cabbage and slowly lifted it from the clay pot.

The biting cabbage made no resistance to Irina's movements. Instead, it conveyed a sense of happiness from the more intimate interaction.

Holding the cabbage, Irina even imagined a beautiful scene in future battles—using her ghostly cloak spell, she could throw the cabbage at an enemy, and it would automatically chase and attack them.

"Alright, you should return it now, Irina."

Professor Sprout gently reminded her.

Reluctantly, Irina returned the biting cabbage. She knew that even if she wanted both magical plants, the Venomous Tentacula and the biting Chinese cabbage, she could never take them openly.

After all, the Ministry of Magic still held great authority at this stage.

When Voldemort returns, and the Ministry of Magic is overrun by Death Eaters, the British wizarding community will collapse, and perhaps Irina will be able to ignore the Ministry's laws, just like the original trio did.

After leaving Professor Sprout's greenhouse, Irina was still thinking about the two magical plants she had just seen.

Meanwhile, in the Slytherin dormitory, Lynn began testing out his alchemy glasses.

The night after returning from Hogsmeade, Lynn obtained a unicorn horn from the wealthy Hagrid and used the Disillusionment Charm to sneak into the third greenhouse, where he touched two Mandrake plants.

Although Mandrake seedlings don't have the ability to cure curses like Petrification, Material Alchemy doesn't analyze the function of the material itself but rather the properties it possesses. This is an extremely irrational method of judgment.

It's like being a person with extremely high learning talent but having low grades because you never study. However, Material Alchemy doesn't care about your current grades or rankings. It only knows that you have exceptionally high learning potential and can directly extract the attributes of your high talent.

Moreover, even if a material only has symbolic meaning, Material Alchemy can also extract its associated properties!

For example, peach wood has the symbolic meaning of protecting against evil spirits in Chinese tradition, so Legal Alchemy can make alchemical products containing peach wood actually possess the ability to ward off evil spirits.

Lynn first ground the unicorn horn into powder and placed it next to other materials in front of him.

"Enhance!"

Lynn cast the spell, and golden magic light flashed in the dormitory.

In front of Lynn, the unicorn horn powder, Mandrake seedlings, guardian tree trunks, dried hairbug stings, viper fang powder, lizard blood, dragon skin, dragon claw powder, and Motla rat tentacles—these materials that either had the property of resisting curses or symbolized resistance to curses—were all added one by one to the golden magical light.

Immediately afterward, crimson flames rose, wrapping around the golden magical light that had fused with these materials, refining the essence of the materials at extremely high temperatures.
