Chapter 39: A Growing Clan

"I see you have grown stronger. Pity." Katherine's seductive voice sounded as she tilt her head to the side in slight surprise. "You were always busy with your family drama in the past that you had no interest to increase your strength. What changed? Is it because you couldn't see your siblings all this time?" Her words are seductive and lazy making people feel like she is talking about something of little interest.

Elijah took off his jacket and fixed his appearance. "I see nothing has changed ... much. Still so violent." He sped to her and held her in his arms tightly. His scent surrounded her making her feel...things. Frowning, she pushed him away hating the way it made her let down her guard.

This is why she had once allowed herself to be swept away by him. Letting herself forget the type of man he is, the type who will keep running after his brother's tail for all eternity.

"Playing hard to get? Aren't we passed that point already?" Elijah chuckled. He had just been testing things but he felt her hostile aura subside as soon as he embraced her. A cat will always remember it's master.

"I will use my old room." She used space to disappear in place. As soon as she went away, Erna came out to check on things. She likes to pretend that she is all grown up and understands everything.

"Did you get the girl?" She asked her father smilingly.

"This is art, you can't rush art dear first born." Elijah scratched his head looking stupid.

His daughter rolled her eyes. "You are clearly not prepared. We have everything riding on this. Make supper."

"Eh? Why?"

"Because you said mother loved your cooking. Remember?" Andy said coming in from the side.

"Did you all do your meditation routine?" Elijah asked. His children are very strong and the incarnations that was given to the clan by Katherine helps them with control over their power.

Each child was born with a spirit fox which is accompanied by a unique ability. If they are not careful their powers form action based of their desires without their explicit instructions.

A few years back Erna wanted to sleep in class but the teacher wouldn't stop teaching so she made her sleepy as well. The school found an entire class including the teacher fast asleep that day.

Elijah started preparing supper while he spoke with the children. "Did you befriend Hope?"

"She is more of a lone wolf dad. Even the whole school stirs clear of her. Why do you care about her so much?"

"Because she is a lone and must miss her family. We are also her family." Elijah reasoned.

"But you told us not to tell her the truth about our identity. How do we befriend someone if we are going to lie to them from the beginning?" Eric said.

"It is not a lie, more like an omission." Elijah explained.

"We play and study our magic together but the headmaster has a weird relationship with her. To the point of making his own children despise her for it." Erna said with a frown.

"Just be good to her she is family after all." Elijah said.

"Yes." They agreed.

"I see something don't change." Katherine's voice sounded from the stairs. She had just taken a shower. She looks refreshed wearing fluffy sleepers, and a comfortable looking robe.

"Some things do." Elijah said looking at the fluffy sleepers on her feet. When they stayed in New Orleans she once accidentally wore them in town by mistake because of how comfortable they are and decided to never wear them again. She called them dangerous.

"Ow shut up." She turned to the kids.

"You guys know it was your grandfather who gave you your names right? What a violent Viking that one." She smiled remembering their first meeting.

"Dad doesn't talk about him much. What can you tell us about him, mother?" Erna asked with curiosity in her eyes.

"Your mother is tired. Lets eat." Elijah ended the topic like this. The child is disappointed.

"Is that what you do? Deflect questions with distractions?"

"Katherine."

"Oh? Is that how you call me now?" She tilted her head. Then looked at the children.

"Any ways if daddy doesn't want to talk about Michael then we don't talk about him. Instead we can talk about Papa Petrova. My father, would you like that?" She smiled when their interest became obvious.

"He was a traveler. You guys know what travelers are right?" Seeing them nod she continued.

"When I was your age, he treated me like how fathers treated of their female children. With distant affection."

"What's distant affection?" Andy asked.

"It is to care for someone but never really interact with them."

"Like Erna and Jace."

"Shut up Eric." Erna said with red cheeks.

"Jace who is this dead Jace?" Elijah asked with an solemn expression.

Katherine just smiled at the picture. She helped fix the table and started eating as soon as she could.

"Any interests?"

"Erna is an artist. Eric is better with the guitar and Andy wants to be a ..." Elijah saw the frown on her face.

"Something wrong?"

"A guitar?" She deadpanned.

The children watched their interactions. Elijah sighed "I don't like it either but at least he is good at it and it makes him happy." He said. She just nodded at his helpless tone.

"Andy has a girlfriend." Eric shouted. The room became quiet.

"Hahahaha..." Katherine laughed at their antics but looked at Eric with a doting smile. "If you like it then you do it." She said making Eric release a sigh of relief.

She sat down and ate silently when the food was ready. Turning to Elijah who cleared his throat after awhile.

"I want us to go on a trip as a family." He said but Erna rolled her eyes.

"We have school." She said uninterested.

"I think we can do it when you guys are back from school for the holidays." Katherine added. She thinks Elijah is trying to help her get close to the kids but there is no need to rush.

After they finished eating, the kids took away the dishes to rinse. Elijah and the children work well together like a well oiled machine making Katherine smile contentedly. Even if she was away this is also good. The children were not neglected and left alone.

"What are you smiling about?" Elijah saw her smile and asked her.

"You guys are perfect together. Tell me this is not a dream." She turned to him with a pleading look on her face.

"It isn't, we are here and so are you." She is pulled into a broad chest and she allows it. She felt three small people hugging her from all sides.

"Mom."

"Yeah, we are finally together again."

"Yeah."

The triplets said in comfort. After she finished eating, she went to the balcony for some fresh air only to see a few teenage kids training. I wonder what happened to my eunuchs.

"The training is too aggressive no?" Katherine asked Elijah who came up next to her.

"Your daughter thought them too weak. She thinks they are partly to blame for your sacrifice. If they didn't need to be saved you wouldn't have been forced into a corner at that time.

Katherine smiled fondly. "I wonder how long will she take to reach home."

"Mom." Nadia called with a shaky voice.

Katherine turned to look at her with surprise. "Baby.." She appeared in front of Nadia and hugged her first born. "My baby.. you have become so strong." Katherine started sobbing.

"Mom..." The guardian of a powerful clan also cried. "You're back."

"I'm back."

Elijah disappeared into the house leaving the two women to catch up.

"How did it go? Did you suffer?" Nadia looking at the glass of wine in her hands asked her mother.

The reunion was touching but Katherine felt drained but then her mood improved when she heard news that Enzo and Nadia got married. There is more good news, apparently women vampires had started getting their periods and falling pregnant.

They call these kids 'pour bloods' it seems the constant use of cleansing potion woke the previously dead eggs and the male sperm. "How marvelous!" Katherine exclaimed in joy.

"Yeah many vampires started coming to join our clan when they heard we are becoming the real vampire royalty." Nadia laughed.

"What do you mean 'real' vampire royalty? And what's this 'pure' blood nonsense?" Katherine is confused.

"We bought an Island and the entire place has our people, the best part? We built a castle there. The three are the royal children, and I am their powerful sister/ guardian." The way she said it made Katherine laugh at her.

"You are not just the guardian of the vampires." She reminded kindly.

"Witches have their own castle but the witch in charge has been deep undercover in the human politics, as per your instructions so that place is not much different that most islands.

It is a high-end resort where many games are 'magical' making the confused customers come back to experience them. The wolves took over most of the land in this place just so they are not disturbed by humans and their developments" This makes sense witches are mischievous while wolves are reclusive preferring their own kind.

"The best part is that everyone is making a lot of money. While the witches are coming up with crazier adventures in their resort to bring in more money, the vampires are infiltrating every part of the business world and the wolves are extending their territory pushing back any attempt at advancement in their land." Nadia explained.

"Sounds like something wolves would do." Katherine said then she looked at her daughter "Why haven't you gotten pregnant?"

"I haven't gotten my periods like the others. I think it is because the potion for body cleansing is not useful to me so I stopped using it when you gave me the elixir." She scratched her head.

"Well star drinking it too I want grand children." Katherine said shaking her arms.

"I have been drinking it for two years but nothing. Maybe it only works on weak people."

"You are too powerful. Get a stronger partner...." She saw the expression on Nadia and continued hurriedly "To donate their sperm. The hospitals can inject you with it and you will have a child." Katherine said.

"No, how about you help me with the same potion and give it to Enzo?" Nadia asked.

"Are you sure? Forever is a long time to have someone owe you such a big favor even if you two are married he may feel indebted to you and then resent you." Katherine cautioned.

"Didn't you give Elijah the same potion?"

"Yes but Elijah was already an original vampire to begin with, he was already above average vampires so the power wouldn't change him too much....I had hoped. But talking about it is useless now since he failed to evolve and the potion lost its effect."

"What I am trying to say is that what if Enzo later feels obligated to stay with you because you have given him so much? Do you want to be with someone who is with you out of obligation?" Katherine asked.

"Here, this is the same one I gave to victor and Rose. It is not the one I gave to you and Elijah. He should be strong enough to crack an egg or two." She laughed. "Ow, this will make him an elder in the clan, congratulations."

"There are different potions?" Nadia asked in surprise.

"Of Couse, You are my daughter so I had faith you will make it but the others may have died if I gave them that same potion. Not to mention it will be overkill. Elijah is an original so I thought he is strong enough, I guess I gambled and lost." She said in a low voice.

"Don't be sad, you'll find your true love." Nadia comforted but Katherine laughed.

"Child there is no such thing as true love. Just someone willing to put aside everything and everyone just for you. Someone you are willing to put aside everyone and everything for them." Katherine didn't know Elijah heard her. He looked at his hands and turned to leave.

"We should go out and celebrate your return." Nadia said but this idea made Katherine frown.

"The less people know about me the better."

"What do you mean? What about the clan?"

"I have done all that is necessary for the clan from here on it will grow under yours and your sibling's supervision. I am tired." She meant figuratively and literary. "If you need help there's the nine tails. I should remain hidden and be consulted when absolutely necessary."

"Fine. You have done more than enough as it is." Nadia relented even though she felt her mother is being lazy.

"The triplet should each choose a path at 16 years. One to lead the witch clan, one to lead the vampire clan and one to lead the wolves. They will know what to do and tell you about it." Katherine yarned and went to sleep.
