Episode 040
Episode 040
Park Jun’s transformation was remarkable.
Until recently, he had a strong desire to prove himself, which made his acting feel burdensome. But today, it was different.
He was portraying the role of Jang Hyuk-jun with such ease that I felt as if Jang Hyuk-jun had jumped out of the Method Mask.
Park Jun’s acting was that excellent.
It felt like he was perfectly embodying every aspect, down to the smallest facial expression.
‘It’s frightening…’
Facing the true meaning of Jang Hyuk-jun, I felt a strange fear.
At first, I thought this fear came from awkwardness. But that wasn’t it.
The fear I felt stemmed from the presence of the character Jang Hyuk-jun.
It seemed as if Jang Hyuk-jun would dominate the scene, making me disappear.
I felt afraid of this fact.
But it was only for a moment.
The fear turned into tension, and the tension once again turned into joy.
In this joy, I delivered my first line.
“…Who are you?”
Simultaneously, the ‘real’ Jang Hyuk-jun responded to my line.
“You look similar.”
“To whom?”
“This is Kim In-young’s house, right?”
“Wow. I thought it might be, but you actually mentioned my sister’s name.”
I felt elated at this fact.
I couldn’t help it.
I could now perform in reality the acting I had only done within the Method Mask.
After getting the Method Mask and being able to act to some extent, I felt a thirst.
No matter how much I practiced, I couldn’t perfectly replicate the acting inside the Method Mask.
“That’s right.”
“Yes, this is Kim In-young’s house. But the name on the deed isn’t my sister’s, it’s mine.”
“The deed?”
“Yes, the deed. It’s in my name, Kim Won-young. How much did my sister borrow?”
“Ah… Such a misunderstanding…”
“Never mind that. Just tell me the principal first. I think I’ll be too shocked if I hear about the interest.”
At first, I thought it was because I wasn’t acting well enough.
But as time passed, I realized that wasn’t the case.
While my acting was still lacking to some extent, it was also partly the other person’s issue.
Acting isn’t just about one person doing well.
It’s about how well you can sync with the person you’re working with.
That was important.
“Does your sister often borrow money?”
“Not really, but I’m saying this because you’re likely either my sister’s boss or her boyfriend. One of the two.”
“Hmm.”
“By the way, loan sharks are doing well these days. Employing such a tall person. Good-looking too. Are you also good at fighting?”
“The siblings are alike in quickly writing a novel. Anyway, I’m not an employee of a loan company.”
In this respect, Park Jun was showing good acting.
While perfectly executing his own acting, he didn’t try to stand out too much and seemed considerate of his partner.
He was the very image of Jang Hyuk-jun that I had been syncing with every night through the Method Mask.
Thanks to this, I could act more comfortably at my own pace.
The temperature of the language was adequately heated, and lines were delivered in a natural rhythm.
“Then what are you? Passerby number 13?”
“I’m your sister’s boss at her company and…”
“Gasp.”
“Your sister’s boyfriend.”
“…Oh, damn.”
I particularly liked the acting in the last part.
I acted as if I really had a sister, completely immersed in the role.
And this was all possible because Park Jun acted perfectly.
As expected, Director Kang Han-sung immediately gave the okay sign.
“Cut! Okay!”
Park Jun also seemed satisfied with his acting.
He smiled as soon as he received the okay sign.
I felt something welling up inside me, feeling that I had acted properly.
It was a feeling where joy, pride, and satisfaction were strangely mixed.
The feeling of truly realizing what it’s like to act well in sync with someone.
“We’ll take close-up shots right away!”
Of course, this wasn’t the first time I had acted in good sync.
I was already acting satisfactorily with Lee Joo-yeon every day.
During “Arrest,” Yang I-deum and Goo Kyung-mo were excellent partners.
“Jang Hyuk-jun. I’ll go first.”
But this was definitely the first time I felt such elation while syncing with a partner.
It was natural.
It’s not easy to feel comfortable while maintaining a tense balance in sync, without leaning to one side or the other.
It was truly a unique experience.
Wondering why I could feel this way, something came to mind.
It was after helping Seo Myung-hee practice her role in “I Will Cast Love” as usual, playing other roles.
“Si-joon. You worked hard today too. You always practice well and help me practice too. Thank you.”
“It’s nothing. You’re also busy practicing other parts because of me. Thank you for always syncing with me.”
“That’s not much. You’ll probably meet even better partners on set.”
“Hmm. Better than you, teacher? Certainly, if it’s a lead actor senior, the acting sync should be good. You’re lucky to meet someone you already know.”
“Ah. Joo-yeon is a good enough actor too. But the good partner I’m talking about has a different meaning.”
“A different meaning of a good partner? What kind of meaning?”
“A partner who pressures me with a strong presence while also helping my acting grow.”
“…That sounds difficult.”
“It is difficult. But you’ll soon meet them on set.”
At that time, I couldn’t understand what Seo Myung-hee was saying.
But now, I think I clearly understand what she meant.
Because I definitely felt that way while syncing with Park Jun just now.
The feeling of performing my own acting when it seemed like my presence might waver.
Thus, I was certain that my presence in this scene was much larger than usual.
It could be called a kind of synergy effect.
Moreover, there were still scenes left where I had to sync with Park Jun today.
I looked forward to the next scene while watching Park Jun taking close-up shots.
* * *
A messy scene inside the house.
A man in a neat suit is surveying the interior of the house.
I mutter while quietly observing this man with my arms crossed.
“I let him in for now… but I’m not sure if this is right… I can’t kick him out again…”
“I can hear all your mumbling.”
“It’s not mumbling if you’re meant to hear it. Are you really my sister’s boyfriend?”
“Even if I wasn’t her boyfriend, shouldn’t you let me in? I’m her boss.”
“A bit of a hierarchical, strict style? Ugh! That’s exactly what I hate…”
“I often hear that I work well.”
“And it’s exactly the style my sister hates too.”
“…I haven’t heard that.”
“I wonder how long it’ll last this time. It seems like you’re not quite on the same level as my sister.”
“Are you saying this for me to hear too?”
“No, this is mumbling. So please close your ears to avoid being rude.”
“Alright. Just one more thing.”
Despite being jabbed at several times, the self-proclaimed boss and boyfriend of my sister doesn’t lose his composure at all.
Seeing this, he does seem to be my sister’s boyfriend after all…
But what does he mean by being her boss too?
The man looks at me with particularly sparkling eyes and slowly opens his mouth.
“You’re handsome.”
“What? What kind of development is this? No! I don’t like it! Don’t do it!”
“……”
“Hey. I asked what kind of development this is, why aren’t you answering? It’s scary for no reason.”
“I thought you told me to say just one thing and stop.”
“…You’re quite petty.”
“I said you’re handsome. I didn’t know she had a brother. Now that I know, it’s unexpected and you look even more handsome.”
“Thank you for the compliment, but I hear it often. So I’m not happy at all.”
“Let me give you my business card. Since you don’t seem to be good at acting, contact me if you’re interested in modeling later.”
“What! I’m not bad at acting! Even when I was in college… Huh? CEO? This kind of boss?”
“Yes, I’m the CEO. And I said your sister’s brother can’t act because of the lie. You’re pretending not to, but it’s obvious you care about your sister.”
“Wow… Anyone could say that, but it sounds so cool coming from a CEO… Wait a minute! I should offer you a glass of water! Brother-in-law!”
CEO of WW Networks.
I don’t know how the relationship with my sister will turn out, but it’s not a situation I can neglect.
I hurriedly try to get up and run towards the refrigerator.
But my sister bursting through the front door forces me to stop in my tracks.
“Kim Won-young. Stop.”
“You’re back? Over here… Your CEO and supposed brother-in-law is here…”
“That stops too. Who’s a brother-in-law? We broke up, you know?”
“What? Really? Why?”
“Is that true? Did we really break up?”
“Then what did you think my message yesterday meant?”
“Wow. That was faster than I thought. I knew you weren’t a good match. Ex-brother-in-law… I’m sorry… I can’t offer you water…”
“You’re quick to change your attitude too. Let’s move this conversation somewhere else. I can’t accept a breakup notification by message.”
“Fine. Then let’s go somewhere and I’ll tell you properly. In a way that will make you think a breakup notification by message would have been more comfortable.”
And so, my sister and the man who is her CEO and ex-brother-in-law leave the house together.
With the front door closing with a powerful bang, all I can say is this:
“Take care… And it’d be better if you come back early…”
* * *
It was a scene where three people, including Jung Se-hee, acted together.
And I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed while acting in this scene.
Because I didn’t feel any of the excitement of meeting a good partner.
Park Jun still showed good acting as if he was possessed by Jang Hyuk-jun.
Jung Se-hee also showed good acting just the same.
But I didn’t feel the elation like when I acted with Park Jun alone.
‘I didn’t feel the fear of being erased in this scene…’
It could be because Jung Se-hee’s acting wasn’t as perfect as Park Jun’s.
Or it could be that you can’t feel that way when three people are acting together.
‘Certainly, in scenes where three people act together, one person shouldn’t stand out too much.’
What viewers expect from this kind of scene is one thing:
How well can the three people blend together to create laughter?
In the end, I could only feel the elation when acting with Park Jun alone.
For this reason, syncing with Park Jun felt incredibly meaningful to me.
I was grateful to Park Jun for helping me feel this way together.
So, as soon as the afternoon shoot ended today, I was able to say this to Park Jun:
“Senior! Thank you so much! Thanks to you, I was able to act well today!”
But for some reason, Park Jun’s expression darkened strangely.
