Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Beginning of Expansions and Collecting Gears (3)
"Marcus... he's building his faction... with his bare hands... This is like something out of the Bible!" Serafall thought, wiping the sweat from her forehead. This was precisely what she had expected, but she had assumed it would take him longer. Perhaps in his twenties or thirties, but not this fast!
How did his genetics push him to expand so rapidly? Was he building robots? Nothing about this made sense to her!
Eventually, she found him at the edge of a platform, a tablet in hand, deeply engrossed in his work. He even had his glasses on. From the looks of it, he was in "design mode," but this time, his designs were on a much grander scale...
Serafall tried to sneak up on him, but the key word here was "tried."
Her instincts told her that he was already aware of her presence.
"Master! I was gone for a day, and this is what I find? You're building railways!?" Serafall exclaimed, wrapping her arms around him from behind. She was now smaller than him, so she rested against his back.
"Yep. I need a much bigger facility for processing information. Genetics requires a lot of processing power. It'll take 34 years just to process my data. Not to mention altering and improving it. So, I decided to expand. I'm going to build a processing facility, space launch platforms, and docking areas." He explained casually.
"I might even add a new workshop. Living so close to my parents is a little... risky." He added with a shrug.
"I see…" Serafall said, slightly sweating. Space launching pads? Was he planning to go to space?
This was the first time she had heard about this!
"Space launching pads and docks? You never mentioned any of this! And here I thought you were telling things to your girlfriend!" she pouted.
"I only came up with the idea for the docks recently. I'm thinking about diving; the pressure tests for the suits are much better deep underwater than in space. Plus, there are so many sunken ships just waiting to be rediscovered and brought back to life!" He said excitedly.
Serafall blinked. Was this some weird male tendency to collect things? Did Marcus have a thing for ships? Or more specifically, sunken shipwrecks?
'Well, it's better than world domination... still, is he planning to bring back the Titanic? That's quite symbolic...'
"Like the Titanic? Are you planning to bring it back to the surface and fix it?" She asked, intrigued. She wasn't there when the Titanic sank, but the movie had been quite good.
"One of them, yes. I'm thinking of bringing back the Titanic, the Bismarck, the Musashi, the Yamato... those are my priorities," he listed off the names effortlessly.
"I only know the Titanic. What's special about the other three?" Serafall asked, raising an eyebrow, particularly intrigued by the Japanese names.
"They were the world's biggest battleships. They were massive—no nation builds ships that big anymore. Now, everyone's focused on aircraft carriers. That's why I want them," he explained, shrugging nonchalantly.
"Men... and their toys..." Serafall sighed, realizing that they were all military ships.
"You have no idea. I was thinking of doing something similar with cars, but eh... diving into the deep sea, pulling up wrecks, and then rebuilding them with state-of-the-art magic and technology—now that's beautiful," Marcus said dreamily.
And Serafall felt an icy chill crawl down her spine.
'Is he planning to turn them into Sacred Gears!?' She paled at the thought of those ships becoming massive Japanese mechs...
'Maybe I've been watching too much Gundam… I need to calm down…' She quickly shook her head, realizing that her imagination had gotten away from her. There was no way Marcus would turn those ships into mechs!
"I see... Well, I suppose it's not a bad hobby to have. Anyway, I've got the information you wanted!" Serafall smugly pulled out an envelope from her pocket and handed it to him.
"Hoh? Information on Cao Cao? Let's see how many people he's recruited." He opened the envelope eagerly, his expression lighting up as he began skimming through the details.
'Jeanne, Hercules, Sieg, Arthur, Le Fay… Hm? The Pendragon pair hasn't joined Vali yet… Interesting. Last known location: Greece... They're probably going to recruit Perseus soon…'
As Marcus read through the papers, Serafall closely observed his reactions. She saw the excitement in his eyes as he absorbed the information, particularly intrigued by the rare Sacred Gears these people had amassed for him.
"You're going to collect them? The True Longinus… That'll attract Heaven's attention," she said, eyeing the picture of Cao Cao.
"Let them. They've had years to recover it," he replied dismissively.
"They have. Many former exorcists had it under Heaven's banner, but like any other Sacred Gear, Heaven's system is random. The Angels didn't expect someone from China to have received the spear," Serafall added.
"As I said, they've had years. Years to patch the system, years to upgrade it, and yet they still can't fix it. At this point, I see nothing more than their incompetence in managing it. It's not my problem," Marcus said with a shrug.
Serafall could hear the distaste in his voice when he mentioned Heaven. It seemed he wasn't a fan of how they managed things.
'It's too early to tell if he'll have a cold relationship with them... but there's always a chance that…' Her thoughts trailed off, thinking about that woman who wore a mask more often than she did!
"Not everyone is at your level, Master. If I had to guess, that blonde guy has tried many times to fix the system. But unfortunately for him, he wasn't created to run it..." Serafall jabbed lightly at the current leader of Heaven.
"...I suppose so. Anyway, I'm off to Greece. I'll be back shortly," Marcus said, giving the envelope one last glance before turning to leave.
"Be careful... It's home to the Greek Pantheon. There's a chance you'll encounter one of their deities," Serafall said, her tone laced with concern. Not so much for his safety—well, maybe a little—but more because she didn't want any Greek gods getting strange ideas about Marcus.
"Irrelevant. I don't care about them. They're no threat to me. I'll leave them alive," he replied casually as he started walking back toward the main floor.
Serafall grimaced, hearing how dismissively he spoke about the Greek gods. He was treating them like nuisances, deciding their fate with a mere shrug.
Then again, if she had a gear like his, she probably wouldn't be afraid either…
"I see... Well, I don't care either..." Serafall quickly lied, and he raised an eyebrow, clearly seeing through it.
"You shouldn't provoke them. Their egos are fragile," she warned.
"As I said, it's irrelevant. I already know their power and scaling. I've scanned their divine energy and even have their DNA. My magic negation system is attuned to their energy just as it is with humans, dragons, devils, and now Greek gods," he explained nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders.
"If you say so. I just don't want you causing an incident that would make them move."
"Move? Move where? Even if they somehow discover my location, there will be one less pantheon in the world by the end of it. I'm not interested in their mountains or anything. I'm just collecting and purging criminals," he said simply, explaining what would happen if the Greek gods decided to act against him.
Serafall gulped nervously. She had no idea what the Devil Council would do once they found out that their P.O.D. had been recreated by a human.
She could already imagine the egos soaring, with Marcus indifferent to it all, leading to the potential extinction of the devils.
