Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Beginning of Expansions and Collecting Gears (2)
Back to Marcus, Later
The tour of the genetics lab wasn't half bad. While the technology wasn't cutting-edge—nothing like what I saw in America, which is at the forefront of genetic research—it's understandable. My birth country doesn't exactly have the budget for top-tier facilities.
Still, the tour served its purpose, and now I know where to start and what I need to do to move forward.
After returning from the tour, I quickly entered some calculations into the main computer and checked the results on the screen:
Calculations done. With current computer parameters, this decoding will be completed in 34 years, 74 days, and 23 hours.
Whistle"Wow… a 46 GB RAM computer can only do that much? Guess a 16-core processor won't cut it after all."
I leaned back, spinning in my chair, contemplating my next move.
"Show me a map of the area. I want a satellite image," I said, deep in thought. While I had a general sense of the geography, I wanted to confirm some details.
Understood. Loading map.
Moments later, the satellite image appeared on the screen. To the northwest, I could see forests—well, there are forests of various sizes in most areas around the city. Moving westward, I spotted open fields, likely farmland. Further west, about 180 kilometers away, was the sea.
I adjusted the altitude readings, examining the terrain more closely.
"Hmmm… So the main processing facility is here, and the open area will serve as the launch site... then, further west, toward the sea…" I thought, considering the ground composition.
If I recall correctly, this area was once the delta of a massive river before the Ice Age. Working through the earth here won't be difficult, especially since I don't plan on going about it the conventional way.
With that in mind, I closed the map and created a new folder next to the Engineering, Projects, and Systems folders. I named it "Expansions."
But before diving into that, I opened the "Projects" folder and started a new project. It was time to design some grunts—robots capable of manual labor.
I named it simply "Aurora Bot." With a few quick gestures, I opened the design app and began sketching out the robot.
It was almost laughable how easy it was to design. Of course, that's probably because I've been upgrading my Freedom system, which requires extreme precision, and dealing with armor layouts and holographic manipulation. Creating labor bots, by contrast, was absurdly simple.
The operating system for these bots was mostly complete, courtesy of Aurora. I skimmed through it quickly before moving on to something more interesting—allowing mechs to use magic.
Surprisingly, it wasn't as difficult as I had anticipated. The magic circles weren't hard to create, especially with the tools at my disposal.
Once the labor bots were designed, I shifted my focus to my "Expansions" project. Teleportation is all well and good, but there's something about traveling by bus, train, or ship that allows you time to think. Many of my best ideas in my previous life came from the time spent traveling.
So, I decided to build an underground railway network.
With perpetual energy, unlimited resources from alchemy, and a tireless workforce of robots, creating an entire network spanning the country would be simple. The best part is that it can expand on its own, requiring almost no maintenance. I could be working on other projects, confident that the network will continue to grow and function.
My assembly line can create ten labor bots in under two hours.
Hmm, still need to refine some of the circles for this… I mused, focusing again on the software updates for the bots.
Meanwhile, Serafall Searches for Marcus
As usual, Serafall entered the workshop at her designated time, but this time, something was off. The room, usually bustling with activity, was eerily quiet. The design table and computer area were empty. Even the main storage area, where the suits were kept, hadn't changed. The Mark I and Mark II suits were still in their place.
This was unusual—especially since Marcus had been delving into genetics recently. Serafall couldn't understand why he was so absorbed in the subject. To this day, she had no idea what he was working on, and frankly, she didn't want to know. She knew better than to ask; any explanation would be far too complex for her to follow, and besides, it was probably groundbreaking enough to make her dizzy for a few days.
So, instead of prying, Serafall decided to simply wait for Marcus to reveal his findings.
Still, she needed to figure out where her Master was. After years of working alongside him, Serafall knew his schedule better than anyone. But today, she couldn't sense him at all. She thought he'd be focused on the Sword Birth or perhaps more genetics-related nonsense.
"I wonder where he is…"
Serafall began her search, walking through the workshop. She checked the main area, the testing room, the summoning and ritual room, even the kitchen and bathroom, but there was no sign of him.
"Strange," she muttered. "He usually connects with me through Ars Goetia to let me know where he is."
Her senses still couldn't detect him. The workshop, with its magical enhancements, made it almost impossible for her to track his location. She had always felt… human here. In this place, her power meant little. Marcus routinely created objects and tools of Ultimate-class magnitude. Even the most sophisticated equipment barely registered on his radar.
After a moment of contemplation, she sighed. "I should probably check downstairs."
Serafall knew full well that she wasn't allowed down there regularly. The lower floors housed the Diamond Core Heart, the database, and the assembly line—the heart of Marcus's operations. Marcus had told her more than once that a "klutz" like her shouldn't go down there often. She had no idea why he thought that, but she wasn't about to argue.
Still, curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to take a quick look before attempting to contact him directly through their connection.
Descending the stairs, she immediately noticed something different. The lighting in the corridor, which had once been almost nonexistent, was now bright and functional. In the past, Marcus had preferred a darker, more minimalistic lighting scheme. But now, the area was well-lit, much to her surprise.
Her steps quickened as she realized Marcus was definitely down here. As she walked, her eyes widened. The corridor was now twice as wide as before, and the walls appeared to be crafted from a new type of metal—likely a new alloy.
'What on earth is he doing… more expansions? Is he building a supervillain base? I won't be surprised, in truth… With him anything is possible… It wouldn't be a shock if one day he wakes up and decides to take over the world just to find out how the nations around the world would act to his declaration of war…'
Serafall shook her head as she started walking down the wide corridor.
Soon enough a few moments later she heard sounds of hammers and the noises of metal cutting and melding…
Her eyes widened and she rushed forward with an extra step. She heard the sound of multiple people working. And she knows that Marcus is always doing things alone but now this!?
Once she arrived at the much wider area, almost as wide as the whole workshop upstairs…
'Is this…' Her eyes scanned the whole area and saw… something akin to a railway station…
"This is a railway station…" She looked around assuming she was standing on the platform area, walking forward she saw the rails or she assumed they were supposed to be rails but it was more like a platform of some sort… like the trains are going to be sliding on it or something like that…
'He won't be making regular trains, that's for sure… assuming it will be floating or something like that…' Once she closely inspected the area, she saw… robots… humanoid robots using magic to drill the tunnel and more robots to assemble the rails…
This was… approaching realms of true sci-fi in her eyes.
Robots? As in real robots… making posh armour is nothing new to her. Well, not at Marcus's level, but armours are nothing too fancy… but properly functioning robot-like workforce?
