Chapter 4 - The Spare Tire of the CEO’s Woman (4)
Taking a deep breath, Hai Ku no longer felt like the impressionable pre-teen who used to read romance novels and get moved by stories of non-blood-related siblings falling for each other.
He just found it ridiculous.
“Wanyan, let me be honest with you.” Putting on a pained expression, Hai Ku altered his tone. “I never saw you as my sister. I always thought I had a chance, but now I see things clearly. Please, stop bothering me, okay?”
“Brother Zixiang… Wuwuwu…” Covering her mouth, Jiang Wanyan tried to stifle her crying, but the more she tried to hold it in, the more it came out in choking sobs, startling even the security guard nearby.
“Take care of yourself and stop contacting me.” Hai Ku hung up the call with a swift press, feeling nauseous from his own lies.
If it weren’t for her status as the protagonist, someone like Jiang Wanyan would undoubtedly be labeled as manipulative.
But he had achieved his goal. Having read enough transmigration stories, Hai Ku knew how powerful the male and female leads’ plot armor could be.
As a supporting character who ranked far down the list, he couldn’t afford to clash with them head-on. His philosophy was simple: stay as far away from the female lead as possible. The further, the better. Ideally, they’d never cross paths again.
While he was content with his plan, downstairs, the female lead was sobbing uncontrollably as the security guard tried to comfort her.
Jiang Wanyan’s current state looked exactly like that of a girl who had just broken up after a fight. The security guard felt a pang of sympathy. “Oh, come on, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s raining so heavily right now, Miss. Stop crying. You’re so pretty; there’s no way you won’t find someone else.”
“Waaaah…” Jiang Wanyan, who had been suppressing her cries earlier, burst into even louder sobs the moment the guard started comforting her.
Her heart felt hollow, like a piece had been ripped out. Jiang Wanyan was overwhelmed by the pain of losing someone so important, crying until it felt unbearable.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry. Where does your boyfriend live? How about I walk you upstairs?” The late hour and pouring rain made it awkward for the security guard to leave a young girl in the guard room.
Even though he had no ill intentions, it didn’t sit right with him.
After some time, as Jiang Wanyan finally caught her breath, the security guard asked, “Should I go up with you? You know, couples can argue, but if you’re going to break up, at least do it during the day. It’s too dangerous to go out in this weather.”
“T-thank you…” Jiang Wanyan, still sobbing, wiped her swollen eyes. “But… but I’m afraid he won’t let me in.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you talk to him.” After listening to her cry for so long, the security guard felt a bit sorry for her but also wanted the crying to stop.
He picked up her luggage with one hand and waved her forward. “Come on, lead the way. I’ll go with you.”
I can’t lose Lin Zixiang…
If she explained things properly, she was sure they could resolve anything!
Wiping away her tears, Jiang Wanyan forced a smile and followed the guard inside.
Each building’s entrance had a metal door that required a keycard. Lin Zixiang had once given Jiang Wanyan a card after buying the apartment, assuming she would never use it. But as the door unlocked with a beep, Jiang Wanyan’s heart sank further.
The stairwell was mostly empty at night. Since she didn’t have the elevator access card, the security guard, who also lived there, swiped her in.
Hai Ku had just laid down. He was in a good mood earlier and was ready for a restful sleep. However, barely a few minutes had passed when his phone rang again.

“Sir, please call him out. If I call him, he definitely won’t answer.” Jiang Wanyan, standing at the door, looked a bit uneasy. Her voice was soft and fragile, perfectly mimicking a girlfriend kicked out by a heartless man.
“Don’t worry, leave it to me.” The security guard, always eager to help, spoke cheerfully. As soon as he finished, the call connected.
“Hello, I’m the security guard. There’s something here for you. Come out and get it.”
“I didn’t order anything,” Hai Ku said, puzzled. The voice on the other end was unfamiliar. “Could you leave it in the security room? I’ll pick it up tomorrow.”
“Oh, no need for that! I’m already at your door. I live downstairs and was changing shifts, so I brought it up for you. Just come out. I’ll wait right here.” Before Hai Ku could respond, the guard hung up quickly, worried the person inside might sense something was off.
The explanation was full of holes, but hearing that someone was at his door, Hai Ku reluctantly got up to check.
Regardless of the truth, he needed to take a look.
He slipped on his slippers and walked to the door, peeking through the peephole. Sure enough, a middle-aged man stood there. Beside him was a woman in a white dress, carrying luggage.
Her tear-streaked face and red eyes made her look pitiful. Hai Ku immediately realized it was the female lead.
Feeling uncomfortable, he hesitated. But with another person present and wary of Jiang Wanyan causing more trouble, he reluctantly opened the door with a sour expression.
“Ah, young man, you finally came out! I always say couples shouldn’t argue late at night. Look at your girlfriend—”
“She’s pregnant with another man’s child.”
The security guard froze, words stuck in his throat. The abrupt statement left him visibly awkward. “Uh… well, you young folks handle your family matters. I have to get back to my shift. Take care!”
He quickly retreated into the elevator, not giving Hai Ku a chance to say anything more.
Jiang Wanyan’s face was pale, her lips colorless. “Brother Zixiang… how could you?”
Hai Ku smirked, his gaze indifferent. He didn’t even bother looking directly at her. “Am I wrong?”
Jiang Wanyan closed her eyes, letting her tears fall freely. “No… you’re right.”
