Chapter 2 - The Spare Tire of the CEO’s Woman (2)
“Brother Zixiang…” Jiang Wanyan had merely been on the verge of tears before. But upon hearing such a blunt rejection, her tears streamed down uncontrollably, blurring her vision.
Her heart pounded relentlessly. She couldn’t understand why Brother Zixiang, who had always been so kind to her, could reject her request so heartlessly; especially since she hadn’t even explained what it was about.
Hai Ku, unwilling to listen to the female lead’s sobbing, had no desire to endure this emotional torture. Having rejected her request, he felt immensely satisfied, his mood soaring. He even took the time to say, “It’s late now. It’s already past 8. Get some rest, Wanyan.”
The moment he finished speaking, Hai Ku hung up with a snap. Feeling euphoric, he couldn’t help but grab a bottle of beer, thinking about bringing Lin Zixiang’s parents over tomorrow.
In the storyline, Lin Zixiang had always wanted to do that. His parents weren’t in the best of health and had been living back in their hometown. Now that Lin Zixiang’s younger sister was away at university and rarely returned home, the two elderly parents lived in loneliness.
Lin Zixiang had planned to bring them over, which was why he had taken out a loan to buy his current house. He had worked hard for several years and was close to paying off the mortgage. Unfortunately, the female lead had disrupted those plans.
Now that the body had a new soul, Hai Ku was determined to bring the two elderly parents over.
He also wanted to experience what it felt like to have parents. In his world, Hai Ku had been an orphan and never knew the feeling of being loved. Now, he yearned for it deeply.
After downing a bottle of beer, Hai Ku glanced at the sky outside.
There was no thunder, but the light rain pattered against the window, blurring the view outside. Tomorrow was the weekend, and he didn’t have to work. He pulled the curtains closed and thought about calling Lin Zixiang’s parents and his younger sister, Lin Ziying, tomorrow.
The siblings had a 9-year age gap, but their relationship had once been quite good. In recent years, however, Lin Ziying had stopped contacting her brother.
When she first found out that her brother liked Jiang Wanyan, Lin Ziying had been supportive. But after learning that Jiang Wanyan had rejected Lin Zixiang and wanted to turn their romantic relationship into a sibling-like bond, Lin Ziying found it disgusting.
If you don’t like someone, just reject them cleanly. What’s the point of calling him your “brother”? Isn’t that gross?
At the time, she was just a high school student and didn’t know how to label such behavior. She had a fight with her brother and, seeing that Lin Zixiang refused to change his ways, decided to cut ties with him.
Blowing out a puff of smoke, Hai Ku thought Jiang Wanyan was nothing but trouble. While he couldn’t judge someone else’s life choices, it was frightening when they affected others.
Thinking about the blocked comments he had left, Hai Ku felt irritated. Recently, he had put in a lot of effort to comment from Lin Zixiang’s perspective, and he hadn’t even criticized Jiang Wanyan!
Clicking his tongue, he stubbed out the cigarette, deciding he should work on improving his family relationships.
Unfortunately, before he could plan his next move, Jiang Wanyan called again.
***
Holding the phone in her trembling hand, Jiang Wanyan’s face was as pale as a sheet. She sobbed uncontrollably, still unable to recover.
She had already packed her things. The child in her womb was now her only hope. If she stayed with Ouyang Ming, the male lead, he would surely force her to have an abortion, given his character.
Lin Zixiang was now her only hope. With his help, both she and the child could be safe.
But his rejection had completely blindsided her.
After crying for a while, Jiang Wanyan decided to call again. Maybe Brother Zixiang had been in a bad mood earlier. Maybe he was dealing with some business troubles or had argued with his family.
Hai Ku had no intention of answering. He silenced the phone and let it light up repeatedly.
Even after he finished washing up, the phone was still ringing. Clearly, the female lead was persistent.
Afraid she would continue to bother him, Hai Ku decided to make things even clearer.
“Wanyan, I’ve already made myself very clear. Stop calling me. Aren’t you comfortable living with Ouyang Ming?” he asked, reclining lazily on the sofa and letting out a sigh.
On the other end, the female lead cried hysterically, and the sound irritated Hai Ku. He put the phone on speaker and set it far from himself.
“Brother Zixiang… I beg you, please help me! You’re the only one I can rely on now!” Hearing Lin Zixiang’s cold voice, Jiang Wanyan’s tears flowed even more freely. She sobbed, hoping to stir some pity and tenderness in him.
It was her usual trick. Perhaps it had become a habit. Whenever she called Lin Zixiang, it was either to complain or to ask for help. But afterward, she never even said thank you. She took all of Lin Zixiang’s sacrifices for granted, treating him like a brother by default.
Hai Ku grew increasingly irritated as he listened, wanting to end this once and for all. When Jiang Wanyan finally quieted down a bit, he spoke. “Wanyan, if I remember correctly, your hometown is right here in this city. What could be more reliable than the arms of your parents? Hmm?”
When something goes wrong, you should turn to your parents. Why was she seeking help from someone who barely had any connection to her?
Asking for help during hard times and remembering your parents only when enjoying life—how could anyone expect things to be that convenient?
Clearly taken aback by Hai Ku’s words, Jiang Wanyan felt both her body and mind had been deeply shaken. She couldn’t comprehend what had happened to make Brother Zixiang, who had always been so good to her, say such things.
After snapping back with that comment, Hai Ku felt unusually pleased with himself. Putting on a false show of concern, he added, “Alright, stop crying. It’s painful to listen to. Do you have anything urgent to say? If not, I really need to hang up; it’s getting late.”
Hearing that, Jiang Wanyan felt even more like crying. “Brother Zixiang, what’s going on with you? Wuwuwu… You never used to be like this. What’s wrong with you?”
Click–
Before she could finish, the call abruptly ended. Jiang Wanyan could barely cry anymore. But what crushed her completely was that when she tried calling back, the line was always busy.
Unwilling to believe it, she redialed several times before finally giving up.
The line had been continuously busy, which could only mean one thing; Brother Zixiang had blocked her number.
“Huu… huu… huu…” Hugging her knees, Jiang Wanyan sobbed even harder.
