Chapter 89: Volume 1 Chapter 89: Saria: He is My Boyfriend

Kal'tsit felt as though she had returned to a long-forgotten time. In the past, she had walked alone across this land, striving to combat the conflicts that plagued it. She had done much and sacrificed even more, but it had all been in vain.

She had learned that true understanding between people was impossible. Kal'tsit never expected others to comprehend her. She simply focused on fulfilling her duty, indifferent to whether she received any reward for her efforts.

Until she met someone named Theresa. When Theresa arrived, she had chosen to trust Kal'tsit unconditionally, even before knowing who she was.

Now, the crocodile man before her reminded Kal'tsit of Theresa. Though they were different in race and gender, their actions were eerily similar. In times of crisis, they chose to trust her.

But unlike the friend she had known for hundreds of years, whose character she knew inside out, Garde was still young.

Time changes people.

Just because Garde trusted her now didn't mean he always would.

Kal'tsit had seen this happen countless times before.

For now, though, their cooperation could at least proceed more smoothly.

The meeting wasn't just between Garde and Kal'tsit; several others were present. Many operators stood nearby, eavesdropping on the discussion.

"Have we met somewhere before?"

Surtr stared at Kal'tsit, her sword, Laevatain, trembling as though it were angry.

"Apologies," Kal'tsit said. Surtr tilted her head, looking as though she was listening carefully.

"We met once before coming to this land. I promised that if you helped me with something, I would do my best to help you regain your memory and your body," Kal'tsit explained, her tone sincere.

"My promise still stands."

"Forget it. I don't trust you," Surtr said, her voice full of indifference.

Though she had lost her memory, she wasn't foolish.

If her past self had trusted Kal'tsit and ended up in this current state, she would have to be crazy to trust her again.

Kal'tsit merely nodded, understanding that Surtr's distrust was reasonable.

After all, Kal'tsit had used her.

Kal'tsit wouldn't go into the details about the protection of the colossus and how Surtr, despite everything, wouldn't come to harm. The truth was that although Surtr hadn't been injured, she had once again lost her memory.

Kal'tsit could only hope this wouldn't affect the rest of the meeting.

"Saria, I know who you are, and I'm also aware of the difficulties Rhine Lab is facing. However, what we are dealing with now is a crisis that all of humanity must confront. I ask that you prioritize this crisis."

"And why should I?" Saria responded.

"I'm willing to share some of the knowledge I have about treating Oripathy. I know you need strong research results to save Rhine Lab. However, I must also tell you that what you're looking for is, at its core, impossible to replicate."

"What are you saying?" Saria's expression grew serious.

Saria's cautious nature made it difficult for her to quickly trust someone as mysterious as Kal'tsit, especially given Kal'tsit's recent friendly exchange with Garde. But Kal'tsit's words had hit Saria's weak spot.

It was exactly what Saria had feared all along.

"At our current level of technology, it's impossible to replicate every substance within a living organism. If we can't do that, the dream of creating a synthetic cure for Oripathy is just that—a dream."

Kal'tsit knew this all too well because someone in her life could cure Oripathy using their blood.

But she would never reveal that secret.

She understood that those in power had little patience.

They only wanted results and would never concern themselves with the process.

The person who had entrusted her with that secret had done so out of trust, and Kal'tsit wouldn't betray it.

"Saria, I believe what she's saying is true," Garde chimed in, confirming Kal'tsit's claim.

"But if Kal'tsit knows that such blood can't be replicated, does that mean she has already obtained and studied such blood?"

Garde's question brought everyone's attention back to Kal'tsit.

Kal'tsit's expression didn't change. In a steady voice, she said, "I've been to this land before, so naturally, I've had the chance to acquire such blood. While we can't replicate it, we can make simple use of it."

Even limited use of such blood could save researchers a lot of time and effort.

Saria finally began to take Kal'tsit seriously.

"If you're willing to share that technology, then regardless of the outcome, you will have earned Rhine Lab's friendship!"

No, you don't want that! Garde thought, remembering the future where half of Rhine Lab's department heads were poached by Rhodes Island famed protagonist, the Doctor.

He couldn't help but feel the urge to speak up.

Besides, Kal'tsit was now a senior advisor to Kazdel's royalist faction. Having close ties with someone like that would surely become a reason for Rhine Lab to face corporate attacks in the future.

However, gaining benefits from Kal'tsit now wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

"By the way, Mr. Garde, what exactly is your relationship with Rhine Lab?" Kal'tsit asked.

Garde was just Rhine Lab's guide, so there was no reason for him to be advocating on their behalf. Yet, he had just stepped in to help them negotiate for resources.

This made Kal'tsit reconsider the relationship between Garde and Rhine Lab. Given what she knew about Saria, she decided that asking outright would be the best approach.

Saria glanced at Kal'tsit, and although this was their first meeting, she had to admit that the white-haired Feline woman before her had a unique charm.

Still, Saria could tell Garde and Kal'tsit didn't know each other well. The fact that Garde had just spoken up for Rhine Lab made that clear.

With her sturdy shield in hand, Saria smiled confidently and said, "He's my boyfriend now, but I believe our relationship will soon become something more."

"Is that so? Congratulations," Kal'tsit responded, instantly raising her assessment of Rhine Lab several notches.

If Saria truly became involved with Garde, Rhine Lab's military capabilities would skyrocket.

Garde's authority over the Lizardman in the rainforest and his strength made him a formidable leader. If he decided to become the chieftainship of the Acahualla region, it would be no challenge for him.

And with the manpower of the entire Acahualla region at their disposal, plus Garde's personal strength, Rhine Lab would become a force even the Sarkaz royal court would need to take seriously.

If she could secure their support...

Kal'tsit shook her head, realizing she didn't have time to worry about Kazdel right now.

"Now, I'll tell you what's really happening deep within the rainforest."
