The Butcher of Sargon (LoL x Arknight Fanfiction)

Chapter 40: Volume 1 Chapter 40: Trouble

The next morning, the employees of Rhine Lab all got up early, and as the director of the ecology department, Muelsyse was waiting in the conference room early.

"Wow, Saria, your dark circles are so heavy, did you not sleep all night?" She couldn't help but exclaim upon seeing Saria.

Saria looked at her coldly, without speaking, but Garde, who was following behind, felt a shock in his heart.

Could it be because he snored last night and disturbed Saria?

Seeing Muelsyse, Garde smiled and greeted enthusiastically, "Hello, Ms. Muelsyse, we met yesterday."

"Hmm!"

Then he saw Muelsyse step back half a step, looking at him warily, as if looking at a dangerous predator.

Garde: "..."

He couldn't help but look at Saria, pointing to his own face, as if saying, "Am I that scary?"

Saria turned her head away, not wanting to bother with him. This annoying crocodile fell asleep halfway through their conversation last night. How could anyone be that rude?

However, Garde noticed that Muelsyse's presence today was obviously different from yesterday.

Is it her original form?

Garde couldn't help but use the attribute detection again.

Seeing Muelsyse's attribute panel, Garde blinked his eyes. Did he read it wrong?

Why does he feel like Muelsyse's chest seems to have shrunk a bit, and her buttocks are not as perky as before?

Just as Muelsyse was about to sit on the conference room chair, she suddenly felt a chill, as if she was being stared at by something. With the corner of her eye, she noticed Garde's curious gaze, and her thighs couldn't help but tense up, feeling a bit flustered.

'No way, is that crocodile really interested in me?'

At first, she thought Garde was just joking, but looking at Garde's current appearance, it didn't seem like it!

Fortunately, Garde only glanced at her lightly and didn't stare at her all the time, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.

She made up her mind to pack up and return to Columbia as soon as the mission was over.

She really couldn't stand being in Sargon anymore!

There are too many predators in the desert! And in more ways than one!

Anyway, after she goes back to Columbia, that crocodile shouldn't be able to chase after her, right?

Thinking of this, Muelsyse relaxed.

As soon as she sat down, Saria across from her spoke up.

"Muelsyse, why did you call us here? What's going on?"

There weren't many people in the conference room. Besides Saria, Muelsyse, and Garde, there were only Parvis, the director of the structural department, and the deputy captain of the security team originally stationed in Redhorn Town.

He was a tall Pero man, only two or three inches shorter than Garde, and most importantly, he had a dog head.

As soon as he saw him, Garde wanted to affectionately call him Doggy.

After hearing Saria's question, Muelsyse cleared her throat, trying to make her expression look more serious.

"Here's the thing—"

Muelsyse briefly explained the situation of the past month to Saria, mentioning the Lord Ameer of the Ibut region several times, with a distressed expression on her face.

"—So, that's the situation. We were supposed to have the supplies ready to enter the Hotland half a month ago. Since we weren't sure exactly what was lacking, we had previously negotiated with the Ibut Lord Ameer, and he agreed to help us prepare."

"But in the past week, the Ibut Lord Ameer has requested that Rhine Lab send a professional engineering team to help them widen a Originium vein mining channel."

"I've checked it myself, and that vein can't bear another mining channel, otherwise it's very likely to cause a collapse, increasing the risk of mining in the Originium cave."

Muelsyse shrugged helplessly.

"So, we only have two choices now: either find a new partner, or help the Ibut Lord Ameer widen the mining channel of the Originium cave."

"But don't even think about it within the Ibut region. No one dares to help us at the cost of offending a Lord Ameer."

"But if we leave the Ibut region, if we want to enter the Hotland again, we may have to take a detour for quite some time."

Muelsyse's words made Saria frown involuntarily. They had already negotiated the terms with the Ibut Lord Ameer before they came, and she had finally managed to invite Garde at the last minute.

Yet they got stuck at the least expected step.

No, it's not fair to say it's the least expected step. The Lord Ameers of Sargon only care about their own interests. Reneging on agreements and raising prices are not uncommon occurrences.

It's just that Saria would consider other matters.

Risking miners' safety to increase mining efficiency? Saria couldn't agree to that.

After a moment of silence, Saria asked, "If we leave the Ibut region now and prepare again, how long will it take?"

"At least half a month," said the Pero deputy captain beside her.

"Entering the Hotland from other regions requires more preparation, and if the Ibut Lord Ameer obstructs, we will face significant resistance."

In Sargon, while the Lord Ameers of each region are relatively independent, the Lord Ameers of neighboring regions tend to be relatively united unless certain interests are involved.

"In fact, we could agree to the Ibut Lord Ameer's request—"

Before the Pero deputy captain could finish his sentence, he was rejected by Saria.

"Orba, don't forget why we're here. If we compromise here, what's the difference between us and those companies who sell themselves for capital?"

"...Yes, Director Saria, I apologize, my conviction is not strong enough."

The Pero deputy captain lowered his head in shame.

"Sorry, Mr. Garde, this mission may be extended. I hope you can give us a little more time, and we will solve this problem as soon as possible."

Finally, Saria looked at Garde.

In the conference room, although they were both department heads, as one of the founders of Rhine Lab, as long as it didn't involve her own interests, when she spoke, others generally accepted it.

But Garde was different. He didn't work for Rhine Lab. Saria thought about it all night but couldn't figure out what Garde wanted as compensation after the matter was resolved.

It was Garde who thought of someone who might be able to help them.

"Saria, I can—"

Just as Garde was about to speak, ready to ask Saria to meet someone with him and seek help from that person...

The phone of the security personnel on patrol in the conference room rang.

"Director Saria, there's someone at the door claiming to be 'Sand Soldier,' a representative of the underground black market. He says he knows about the trouble we're facing and claims he can help us."

Upon hearing this title, Garde immediately realized.

The other party shouldn't be here for Rhine Lab, but for himself.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have arrived neither early nor late, but right after Garde came to Redhorn Town, he appeared at the gate of Rhine Lab's base.

Eliot, looks like you've encountered some trouble.
