Chapter 1: Be my mate, Silas
"Ack!"
Silas choked as a heavy fist rammed into his abdomen, knocking the air from his lungs. His knees hit the cold floor with a thud, his fingers instinctively clutching his stomach as he gasped for breath. His round glasses slipped from his face, landing with a soft clatter beside him.
"Silas, I told you to share your notes with me." said Victor, the infamous bully of Black Shadow Academy. "Is an omega defying an Alpha now? Since when did you forget your place?"
Despite the pain radiating through his body, Silas forced himself to look up with his sharp, defiant eyes. He reached for his glasses, wiping off the dust before slipping them back on.
"Will you kill me if I don't give you my notes?" he asked, his voice steady despite the sting in his ribs. "And since when does an Alpha need an omega's notes? I thought Alphas didn't even bat an eye at someone like me, let alone relied on me to pass a test."
Victor's face twisted in rage. "You fucker—" He lunged at Silas, throwing a punch with all his strength.
Silas managed to dodge the first blow, but he wasn't fast enough to avoid the second. The impact sent him staggering backward, his body colliding hard with the floor. He coughed the blood, feeling the pain shooting through his entire body.
Victor stepped forward, his boot crushing Silas's fallen glasses beneath it with a sharp crack. "Go on, say what you were saying before," he sneered. "I'm going to crush you today."
Silas tried to push himself up, but his limbs trembled, drained of any remaining strength. Just as he braced himself for another hit, a familiar voice echoed in the hallway.
"Are you seriously going to beat an omega just because you didn't get his notes?"
The hallway fell into an eerie silence. The students who had been watching the scene unfold stiffened as their faces paled.
Lucca Sinclair.
The dominant and elite Alpha. Not just of Black Shadow Academy—but of the entire country.
Silas turned his head as his gaze landed on him. He had spent three years keeping a low profile, staying out of Lucca's path. But now, he had finally drawn his attention.
Victor's snarl deepened, his blue eyes flashing dangerously as his canines lengthened. "Lucca, this fucker tried to challenge me!"
Silas clenched his fists. He didn't want this to escalate further, nor did he want Lucca's attention lingering on him. Summoning the last of his strength, he muttered, "I'll give you my notes. S-sorry for hurting you with my words."
Victor chuckled darkly, running his fingers through his hair. "You think that's enough? I have no intention of letting you walk away alive."
Before Silas could react, Victor's fist came hurtling toward him again. Instinctively, he shut his eyes, bracing for the impact.
But it never came.
Slowly, he opened one eye, then the other.
Lucca stood between them, his grip effortlessly halting Victor's attack. His fingers wrapped around Victor's fist.
Then, with nothing more than a slight shift of his arm, Lucca sent Victor flying across the hallway. He crashed into a row of chairs with a loud thud, groaning as pain wracked his body.
Lucca exhaled with an authority, "I told you to stop, Victor. You should have listened."
Silas remained frozen, his heartbeat thundering in his ears. For the first time, he realized just how terrifying Lucca Sinclair truly was.
Silas was about to leave when Lucca's voice stopped him.
"Follow me," Lucca commanded.
Silas hesitated as his pulse quickened. "I-I don't want to," he refused. The moment the words left his lips, he realized his mistake.
A scoff came from behind him.
"This omega always thinks he can defy everyone," sneered another Alpha.
Damien's expression twisted into a cruel grin, stepped closer. "If you want, I can teach him a lesson before sending him to you," he offered, his tone dripping with malice.
Silas stiffened. He knew exactly what Damien meant. His throat went dry as he swallowed hard as his body tensed in fear.
Lucca barely spared him a glance. "Fine," he said with a shrug. "Bring him to me when you're done." He turned to leave.
Panic shot through Silas like a jolt of fear. "No!" he blurted out, stepping forward. "I'm coming with you."
Lucca smirked, clearly amused, but said nothing. Instead, he walked ahead. Silas followed, his heart hammering in his chest while thinking what Lucca wanted him for.
They soon arrived at the private lounge within the college premises—the exclusive space where only Alphas gathered. The scent of his pheromones lingered in the air, suffocating him in its intensity.
'Why is he releasing them?' Silas thought and clenched his hands.
"What do you want from me?" Silas then asked, keeping his voice steady. "If it's notes you need, I'll give them to you."
Lucca let out a low chuckle as he sprawled across the raven-colored couch, his legs spread wide, arms draped casually over the backrest. His piercing gaze locked onto Silas.
"Are you forgetting?" he drawled. "I'm one of the top students in this university."
Silas blinked rapidly, feeling increasingly unsettled. "Ah, right. Then I don't have anything to offer you. Thank you for… helping me out, even though I didn't ask for it," he muttered.
Lucca scoffed. "Either say thank you properly, or don't say it at all. Half-hearted gratitude doesn't sit well with me."
Silas sighed. "Fine. Thank you," he said, more firmly this time. Then, without another word, he turned to leave.
But Lucca's voice stopped him cold.
"I didn't ask you to leave, Silas."
There was something about the way he said his name that made Silas' feel strange. He shook off the strange sensation, but Lucca's next words sent a chill down his spine.
"I didn't help you for free," Lucca stated.
Silas clenched his fists, his worst fears creeping into his mind. 'I knew it. He wants something from me. My body? No—I won't let any Alpha claim me. Especially not Lucca.'
Slowly, he turned back to face him. "I never asked for your help," he said, his voice firmer this time.
Lucca's lips curled into an amused smile. "And yet, when I walked away, you were the one who followed me, saying you'd come with me."
Before Silas could react, Lucca moved—too fast. In the blink of an eye, he was suddenly in front of him, forcing Silas to take a startled step back.
"You're in no position to back away now, Silas," Lucca murmured in a dangerously low voice.
Silas swallowed hard, forcing himself to meet Lucca's violet gaze. "What do you want?" he finally asked.
Lucca's smirk deepened.
"Be my mate, Silas."
