Chapter 20: Massacre II
The tension in the air became unbearable. The glow of Daichi's Spear of Judgment lit up the bloodied faces of his friends. Kenta was gasping from the pain of her wound, Haru could barely hold her bow, and Ryuusei... he was simply smiling under his mask.
"If they're going to fight seriously," Ryuusei muttered, raising his daggers. Then I will too.
Without warning, his body began to emanate a dark and chaotic aura. His eyes, hidden behind the mask, became bottomless pits. A cursed energy rumbled on the ground and the air distorted around him.
"He's getting ready for something big!" Kenta shouted, putting himself on guard.
But it was too late.
Ryuusei activated all of his abilities at the same time.
(Touch of Entropy) Ryususei's skin darkened, becoming an energy-devouring void. Everything he touched broke down instantly. The ground beneath it cracked, and nearby streetlights flickered before going out.
(Abyss Vision) His eyes flashed with an unnatural glow, allowing him to see the flow of his enemies' life energy. His movements became impossible to predict, dodging each attack with chilling accuracy.
(Nightfall Flames) A black fire engulfed his daggers, burning without consuming them. With a single slash, he created an arc of flame that was launched at Kenta and Haru. Kenta was barely able to block him with his scythes, but the impact threw him into a wall.
(Distortion of Fate) Time fragmented around him. His every move left an echo, making it impossible to know where he would actually strike. Daichi tried to counterattack with his spear, but hit only shadows.
Ryuusei's wounds from Daichi closed instantly, but his body trembled with pain. Black blood gushed from his lips, but it didn't stop. (Painful Regeneration)
(Powers of Peace) For an instant, a strange calm spread... but only to break into a devastating burst of energy. His enemies were paralyzed, feeling an emptiness within them before being thrown back.
No attack from his rivals seemed to affect him. Haru's arrows disintegrated before they touched him, and Daichi's spear barely scratched him. (Aura of Resistance)
(Echo of Life) With each blow he received, his energy spread, causing others to feel his wounds. The pain was shared, causing his enemies to waver.
But then, something went wrong.
The simultaneous use of his abilities had overloaded his body. His breathing became erratic, his muscles trembled. The entropy on his skin began to devour himself. His eyes bled and left him blind for a few seconds as the distortion of reality became uncontrollable.
"He's losing control!" Daichi shouted.
Ryuusei tried to move, but his own power weakened him. His legs gave way and he fell to his knees. His daggers trembled in his hands, his flames swayed...
And then, Kenta, Haru and Daichi saw their chance.
"NOW!" Kenta roared, charging with all his might.
Haru shot an arrow directly into Ryuusei's chest, as Daichi raised his spear for a final blow.
Ryuusei looked up, smiling with his lips covered in blood.
"Come... go for me...
And the battle reached its climax.
