Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 173 - The Great War (2)

Chapter 173
The Great War (2)

With a flap of the Shadow Dragon’s wings, it sped swiftly forward.

The Crane Kingdom was close to Burning Hell.

He could see the Crane Kingdom in the distance.

The entire kingdom was on fire. Black plumes of smoke rose into the sky. Redin scanned the kingdom with the [Watcher’s Eye].¹

The streets were filled with dead bodies.

From knights to commoners.

Everyone, regardless of age or gender, was dead.

The living were trembling in terror and fear, generating negative energy.²

The energy they generated made its way to the Royal Palace.

Where the palace once stood was the Gate of the Demon Realm.

Demon cultists were seated around it, and what seemed to to be the Apostle was lying on the ground, gazing up at the sky.

“Please take care of the cultists throughout the kingdom.”

Henry Baskervan bobbed his head.

“After we take care of this, we’ll head to where you are.”

“Okay.”

When the shadow dragon reached the skies above the Crane Kingdom, Henry Baskervan leapt out of it and descended into the Kingdom.

The shadow clones Henry created decapitated the Demon Church members.

It may have been a waste to use his powers there, but it allowed him to quickly clear out the cultists.

Redin stopped the Shadow Dragon overhead and surveyed the Palace.

The Apostle on the ground stood up, and the cultists around him readied their spells.

“Fresher, take care of him first.”

“A strong foe?”

“Yep.”

Fresher leapt from the shadow dragon with a smirk. The two giant swords in his hands spread out like wings as he crashed towards the apostle.

*Boom!*

The moment he reached the ground.

The ground caved in with a loud explosion.

The Demon Church members who were preparing magic were buried in the ground, and Fresher leaped forward, swinging his swords at the apostle.

*Bam!*

*Bam!*

Redin calmly watched the battle between the two.

If he were to go in himself, it would be possible to deal with it quickly.

There were 11 Gates throughout the continent.

The Demon God Church had Eleven Apostles.

It was a situation that needed to be resolved as quickly as possible, and it would be inefficient for him to take the prisoners with him.

So he decided to test their skills.

How many prisoners would it take to finish off an apostle.

“You’re getting me all excited.”

Fresher grinned gleefully and swung his sword. The apostle snorted at the sight and raised his demonic energy.

“Berserker Fresher.”

“You know me?”

“Well, seeing as you’re here, I guess the Burning Hell plan is for naught.”

The apostle looked in Redin’s direction, radiating murderous intent.

“You must be Redin. Just wait, I’m going to sort this guy out and rip your head off.”

With a fluid movement, the apostle struck.

*Bam!*

*BOOM!!*

Fresher and the Apostle exchanged blows. It was a close fight, with neither one getting the upper hand.

However, neither side was unleashing their full strength.

Especially the Apostle, who even had an Awakening using demonic energy.

“I’m getting so pumped!”

Fresher grinned and charged the Apostle.

A sword that was simply wielded without much sword technique.

Each blow was powerful, and the Apostle opted to dodge rather than engage in it directly.

With each step Fresher took and each swing of his sword, the Crane Palace lost its form.

*RUMBLES!!*

The Crane Palace completely crashed to the ground.

Emerging from a thick cloud of smoke, Fresher walked out and searched for the Apostle.

A thick hand appeared behind him.

The condensed demonic energy in the hand burst out, engulfing the surroundings.

*CRASH!!*

No one died yet.

The smoke quickly cleared, revealing a wounded Fresher. He was bleeding all over, but he didn’t look in the least bit winded.

Fresher seemed more enthusiastic.

As Fresher swung his sword widely, a burst of wind sliced the smoke in two, and he raced toward the Apostle who was hiding in it.

A crater formed in the ground.

Leaping, Fresher threw one of his two swords at the apostle. The Apostle raised his hands, forming a shield of overlapping demonic energy.

A collision of sword against shield.

The Apostle blocked the Fresher’s attack, but it was followed by a second one from Fresher.

A powerful blow that contained all his strength.

The aura blade, turning from blue to almost white, sliced through the demonic energy shield and slashed deeply across the apostle’s chest.

*Splatter*

The apostle’s eyes widened as blood splattered across the ground.

“Keogh!”

Black blood trickled from his mouth.

The blood began to come alive.

A curse.

The curse dormant in the apostle’s body became active, healing the wounds and bringing forth even more power.

“Euaaaaaag!”

With a monstrous scream, the sound of breaking through the air spread in all directions.

A scream that threatened to tear one’s eardrums apart.

Blood trickled from Fresher’s ears, but he paid it no mind as he charged at his opponent.

A blow that carried power.

It was a simple blow, far too monotonous for the curse-awakened Apostle, who grabbed Fresher’s sword and sent him flying with his right fist.

Flying helplessly, Fresher crashed into the ruins of the palace.

*Whoosh!* *Crash!*

The palace burst apart in a fan shape.

Fresher alone seemed unable to handle the Awakened Apostle.

“Fatos, join the fight.”

Fatos, a wizard with exceptional talent in controlling fire, used Fly Magic to hover in the air and began chanting a spell.

The apostle glared in their direction.

Just as the Apostle was about to launch himself off the ground and toward them in the sky, Fresher, who had been trapped in the palace, burst out and blocked him.

In the meantime, Fatos’s continued chanting his spell.

A circle of magic formed around the Apostle.

Blazing flames erupted, causing an explosion. The consecutive blasts from all directions formed a massive fiery flower.

A flower made of scorching flames.

The flower, which had blossomed brightly, budded and then exploded. That was not the end. Pathos continued casting spells.

Hundreds of flaming arrows rained down from the sky.

With each explosion, flames surged in waves. The flames spread in all directions across the kingdom. Off to one side, Henry Baskervan used his shadow to keep the flames at bay.

Behind him, a group of survivors.

They cowered behind the shadows Henry had created.

“Coward! Do you think I’ll fall for this!”

The apostle emerged from the flames, his red eyes flashing, his breathing labored.

Undaunted, Fatos proceeded with his next spell.

The flames all around him became whips, wrapping around the apostle’s body. The red flames turned yellow, and then white.

Eventually, it became blue.

The apostle’s body began to melt from the intense heat. Despite the curse emitting magic to protect the body.

It was a futile act.

Even the curse was burned by the powerful flames created by Fatos. At that moment, Fresher swooped in and decapitated the apostle with his sword.

The Apostle’s head flew through the air and rolled on the ground.

The blue flames burned away the curse as its life was extinguished, ending the battle.

“I suppose we’ll have to go in teams of two.”

Fresher and Fatos.

Henry and one other person.

They descended to where the palace was using the shadow dragon. Standing on the broken pavement, Redin looked up at the Demon Gate.

It was impossible to destroy it with ordinary means.

He withdrew the holy water from his subspace pouch and shattered the vial. Using the holy power in his hands, he formed the Sword of Judgment.

*Swoosh!*

Redin launched it toward the Demon Gate.

The Demon Gate that the Sword of Judgment impaled naturally crumbled as the demonic energy within it dissipated.

The Demon Gate turned to dust and disappeared.

“Other areas will be taken care of by the Holy Empire, so we’ll leave the Demon Gate to them, and we’ll focus on the Apostles.”

After issuing instructions using dragon magic, Redin spoke with Henry, who joined the group late.

Next area to go.

The Ravino Kingdom is not urgent, given that Fabian is now a vampire, but the neutral territories are the most urgent, as they are less powerful.

Henry and one prisoner were sent towards the direction of Daylon, while Fatos and Fresher were dispatched to the Carvin Kingdom.

Watching them leave, Redin mounted the Shadow Dragon again.

*Ring!*

There was a signal coming from the conch shell.³

Marek Casino operating the Trading House as per his instructions.

“Yes.”

-Busy?

“I’m not that busy.”

-I got a call from a friend of yours named Heather. He said they made some progress on their research and wanted me to let you know.

The super magic bomb that Heather is working on.

And the Half Dragon Redis at his side.

A smile spread across his face as he recalled the forces he had momentarily forgotten.

“Alright.”

With the aid of the shadow dragon, he moved toward where Heather was.

Arriving at the mountain range where the Imperial Laboratory is located.

After dismissing the shadow dragon, he proceeded into the cave.

The place had been renovated.

The passageway had been leveled, and the ceiling had been reinforced to prevent it from collapsing.

“They must have gotten some mages to help.”

He could sense a flurry of activity coming from the direction of the laboratory.

As he walked toward the lab, Redin saw a familiar face.

At the center, Heather, barking instructions to the mages. Behind him, Redis was yawning.

“Heather.”

He waved his hand and Heather came over, smiling brightly.

“It hasn’t been long since I sent the message. You came right away?”

“I happened to be available. Where did you find the wizards here?”

“I initially planned to do it alone, but I realized I needed more help, so I asked Marek for assistance.”

“Good for you. And the research?”

Heather pointed to the tower in the center.

“The usage of the launcher has been thoroughly explored, we’re almost done with the research on the supercharged bombs we’re going to fire.”

“If you say ‘almost,’ how close are we talking?”

“We just need to pass the safety tests.”

He nodded.

“How far can it be launched?”

“Anywhere across the continent. It’s doable.

“We might have to use it soon. I need you to get it ready as soon as possible.”

“Okay. And I have something else to show you.”

Heather said something to the mages who were working on something, then motioned for him to follow her.

The tower that was the launch pad.

Heather walked to the back of it and touched something, and a door appeared in the stone wall.

A secret passage.

He followed Heather through the passage.

“I stumbled upon this by accident, but I think it could be of great help.”

Heather’s voice was filled with excitement.

Soon, the reason for his excitement was revealed.

A huge open space.

In it were dozens of the golems that he and Heather had encountered before.

“I’ve been working on this in between researching the supercharged bombs, so they can be put to work right away.”

“All of them?”

“I operated them once before, and we have data on golems in the lab, so it wasn’t too difficult.”

“That’s amazing….”

He was genuinely impressed.

A cursory glance told him there were more than twenty of them.

It would be difficult to bring down the Apostles, but it would certainly be useful in stopping the cultists under them.

“Can you send golems to each Kingdom?”

“I can’t do it alone.”

“Then I’ll put in a call to the Kingdom of Resha.”

If he asks Isabelle, she’ll do it.

“Okay, I’ll make the arrangements.”

With that, he and Heather exited the secret passage again and then he shook Redis, who was lying sleeping, awake.

“Redis.”

Redis opened her eyes, and when she saw him, she gave a grumpy expression.

“Liar.”

“I need your help.”

“Now? You don’t look like you need my help.”

“Only because there’s no one strong enough at the moment for you to fight.”

“And now?”

“There are too many targets for you to take revenge on.”

Redis pushed herself to her feet.

“You saved my life, so I’ll let you off this once.”
