Chapter 10: Graduate
Naruto dispelled the shadow clones, and they vanished in puffs of smoke.
Naruto: "It took me a lot of effort to learn this technique."
The Third Hokage nodded, sighing as he sat down across from Naruto.
Third Hokage: "Let's talk again…"
Naruto: "Of course. What would you like to discuss, Lord Third?"
The Third Hokage looked at Naruto seriously. "Did you learn any other techniques besides the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu?"
Naruto: "No, I only learned the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu before I suddenly passed out."
The Third Hokage stared intently at Naruto, his expression unreadable. He was worried Naruto might have learned the Reanimation Jutsu, a forbidden technique that could resurrect the dead. The thought of a child who had lost his parents learning such a technique was troubling, especially since it required a living sacrifice.
Maybe Naruto doesn't even know the Reanimation Jutsu is on the scroll, the Third Hokage thought. The Fourth Hokage wouldn't have left something so dangerous without a reason.
There was also the matter of the Four Symbols Seal and its release method. The Third Hokage shook his head, deciding he was overthinking things.
Third Hokage: "Now that you've learned the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, you can graduate from the ninja school."
Naruto: "You're letting me go?"
Third Hokage: "Yes… but on one condition. Don't reveal that the Fourth Hokage is your father until you're older. Believe me, Naruto, it could bring you unnecessary trouble."
Naruto: "Alright, but I have a request. I'd like to be in the same class as Hinata."
Third Hokage: "Why?"
Naruto: "She's the only one who doesn't see me as a monster."
The Third Hokage fell silent for a long moment before finally nodding. "Very well. I'll inform Iruka at the ninja school tomorrow."
Naruto: "Thank you, Grandpa Third. You're not so bad after all."
The Third Hokage chuckled softly. "You little devil…"
Third Hokage: "You can rest assured. I'll verify the assets left by your parents and transfer them to you soon. You've suffered enough over the years, and I'm sorry for that. Do you have any other requests? If not, you're free to go home."
Naruto: "No more requests, but there's one thing I'm curious about. Can you clarify something for me?"
Third Hokage: "Go ahead."
Naruto: "What happened after I passed out? How did Mizuki get exposed?"
Third Hokage: "Iruka was worried about you, so he went to your house and found you unconscious on the floor with the Forbidden Scroll beside you."
"Stealing the Forbidden Scroll is a serious crime. The techniques recorded in it are not to be taken lightly."
"Iruka was about to report the incident when Mizuki suddenly showed up at your door."
"Since you were unconscious, Iruka transformed into you to confront Mizuki. That's when Mizuki spilled everything."
So it was pure luck, Naruto thought.
Naruto: "But… if the Forbidden Scroll is so important, why was it so easy to steal?"
Third Hokage: "Well…"
Naruto: "Did you suspect Mizuki from the beginning? Did you use me to draw him out?"
The Third Hokage raised an eyebrow, surprised. "You figured that out? I thought you wouldn't notice…"
Naruto: "I might act recklessly sometimes to get attention, but I'm not stupid."
Third Hokage: "Fair enough. Anything else?"
Naruto: "No, that's all."
Third Hokage: "Alright, then you're free to go. Remember to report to the ninja school tomorrow."
He handed Naruto a piece of paper with the time and location for the report.
After Naruto left, the Third Hokage turned to the ninjas in the room. "What you've seen and heard today stays here. Not a word to anyone."
Once the ninjas left, another figure appeared in the room—a man with silver hair, a mask covering half his face, and a single visible eye. It was Kakashi.
Third Hokage: "He'll be your student from now on."
Kakashi: "Feels like a chore."
Third Hokage: "Even if he's the Fourth's son, you can't go easy on him. Keep a close eye on him."
Kakashi: "Why can't someone else handle this? I think the ANBU might be a better fit for me…"
Third Hokage: "No one else can do this but you. Besides, there's also the Uchiha boy. You're the only one in the village who can guide him in awakening the Sharingan."
Kakashi: "Sigh… fine."
Kakashi's deadpan expression didn't change, but his tone betrayed his reluctance.
Meanwhile, Naruto stepped out of the interrogation room, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. The entire ordeal—from planning to steal the Forbidden Scroll to the unexpected twists—had been exhausting. But in the end, it had all worked out.
He had memorized all the techniques on the Forbidden Scroll.
He would soon receive the inheritance left by his parents.
He would be in the same class as Hinata.
The fusion of his two souls had given him an incredible memory.
All in all, it was worth it.
Naruto reached out to Kurama in his mind. "Master Kurama, do you have a moment?"
Kurama: "What now?"
Naruto: "I want to discuss our future."
Kurama: "Our future? What do you mean?"
Naruto: "Half of your body is sealed within me using the Uzumaki Clan's Dead Demon Consuming Seal, right? I know how to free the other half of your body. In return, I want your commitment."
Kurama: "Brat, what are you talking about?"
Naruto: "I'm serious."
Kurama: "Interesting. What kind of commitment do you want?"
Naruto: "Stay in my body peacefully while I'm alive. Don't try to control me."
Kurama: "You want me to obey you?"
Naruto: "Not obey. We'll be equals. I just want us to coexist peacefully."
Kurama: "Equals… interesting…"
Suddenly, Naruto's vision shifted, and he found himself back in the seal space with Kurama.
Kurama: "If we're equals, why don't you tear down this cage?"
