Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Gu Jun's Support
Feng Mo followed Gu Jun to the fortress command center, where the commanders of various fleets were already gathered. As he and Gu Jun entered, hundreds of eyes turned toward Feng Mo. Showing no sign of pressure, Feng Mo allowed Gu Jun to lead him to the first seat on the left side of the main table. Taking his seat with ease, Feng Mo surveyed the room like a lion surveying its domain, exuding an iron-blooded aura that discouraged anyone from underestimating him.
A light cough broke the silence. The sound came from a middle-aged man seated at the head of the table—Commander Zhongming of the Federation's First Fleet. All three Federation fleet commanders used codenames, with their real names kept secret.
Zhongming offered a nod and spoke warmly, "Lord Feng Mo, I appreciate your presence here at Vermilion Bird Star Fortress so soon after your arrival. It's an honor."
Feng Mo waved a hand dismissively, "The Storm Empire is part of the Starsea Federation; this is my duty."
"Good. Let's start the meeting," Zhongming announced. "The purpose today is to discuss how we'll handle the T6 Mechanoid warship."
Zhongming's adjutant then played footage of the T6 warship's main weapon in action. A colossal blue beam split into multiple smaller rays, with just two of them sufficient to destroy a T5 starship. The remaining beam pierced the shield of a T5 flagship, punching a hole straight through its hull. Even under heavy attack, the T6 warship's shield merely rippled, and its high speed allowed it to evade most of the Federation's return fire.
Watching the footage, the commanders wore grim expressions. The T6 Mechanoid warship boasted both formidable firepower and impenetrable defenses, combined with the speed to evade long-range attacks. It would be a challenging foe.
Feng Mo remained calm and intrigued. This T6 warship's main cannon bore similarities to the T5 Blackhole-Class Annihilation Cannon on his own Battle Planet, capable of cluster firing and splitting into multiple beams. He couldn't help but imagine the spoils: dismantling this T6 warship and reengineering it into a T6-class vessel for the Storm Empire. If he could keep the raw materials and share the technology with the Federation, perhaps they'd even let him choose another treasure from the vault.
Gu Jun, seated nearby, spoke up with a plan. "The Yunshan Fleet, Storm Fleet, and Federation's First Fleet each possess stealth bombers and missile ships. We could consolidate the stealth bombers and launch a decapitation strike on the T6 warship. The missile ships would serve as a backup."
Feng Mo nodded, appreciating Gu Jun's logic. The First Fleet had five stealth bombers, Yunshan Fleet had three, and Storm Fleet had ten, totaling eighteen. With a coordinated barrage, even a T6 Mechanoid warship might fall under such an assault.
However, Feng Mo's nod turned into a shake of the head. He foresaw a critical flaw in Gu Jun's plan. The Mechanoids likely knew the Federation's capabilities at the fortress and could anticipate a stealth bomber strike. Even if the T6 warship were destroyed, the bombers would be vulnerable to a retaliatory barrage from the Mechanoids. Such fragile ships wouldn't survive a direct hit.
Noticing Feng Mo's change in expression, Zhongming asked, "Lord Feng Mo, do you have any thoughts? Please, share freely."
Feng Mo responded, "Commander Gu Jun's strategy is sound, and if necessary, we can indeed target the Mechanoid warship. However, I don't believe we're at that point yet. I'd like the Storm Fleet to operate independently. Allow us to handle the T6 Mechanoid warship and its fleet."
Feng Mo's words fell like a stone in still water, creating ripples among the commanders. Suddenly, a voice spoke out from further down the table.
"Since Lord Feng Mo is so confident, perhaps he could put it in writing. If he fails to destroy the T6 Mechanoid warship, he'll face punishment from the Federation. If he succeeds, he'll deserve the highest honors."
Feng Mo glanced in the direction of the voice, finding it belonged to a slightly built, stern-looking middle-aged man seated eight seats down from Zhongming. Given the man's position, he was likely a T5 fleet commander.
Feng Mo had noticed this sort of reaction often. His success against the three T5 fleets of the Humanoid Alliance had significantly eased the pressure on the Federation's eastern warzone, freeing up forces to assist in the south. Currently, nearly twenty T5 fleets had converged at the Vermilion Bird Fortress.
Though he didn't know this particular commander, Feng Mo had no intention of yielding to his provocation. With a faint smile, he replied, "I won't be baited into making a military oath at your suggestion. Even if I failed, do you believe the Federation could punish me? Would you dare?"
Standing, Feng Mo's expression turned sharp, and a layer of black metal spread over him from the neck down—his T5 Dark Radiance-Class Combat Armor. With piercing eyes fixed on the commander, he continued, "I've promised to eliminate the T6 Mechanoid warship, and I keep my promises. Choose your words carefully. Some people, and those backing them, are beyond your reach."
With a respectful nod to Gu Jun, Feng Mo turned and left the command center. Gu Jun, catching the signal, turned to Zhongming and said, "I trust in the Storm Fleet and in Lord Feng Mo's command. If he promises to take down that T6 Mechanoid warship, then he will. Commander Zhongming, I suggest we reward him with another treasure from the vault if he succeeds."
Zhongming internally chuckled, amused by the uncle-nephew act. They played off each other so smoothly, they could have been entertainers. Despite his private thoughts, Zhongming had to admit that his fleet wouldn't stand a chance against the T6 warship. Pragmatically, he nodded, conceding to the plan.
