Chapter 7: Chapter Seven: Girl Power

It was a new week, and Miles felt a surge of excitement as he walked through the school halls. The positive vibe lifted his spirits, and for the first time, he felt truly at home, almost forgetting the memories of his old school. As he made his way to the cafeteria, he spotted Jason and waved him over.

While they were sitting down and enjoying their food, Miles suddenly felt a hand tapping his back. He turned around to find Harry standing there, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hey, what's up?" Miles said, trying to keep things light.

Jason's expression shifted to one of concern; he knew Harry well enough to sense trouble brewing.

Harry was flanked by two other kids, all of them sporting that same weird grin. "New kid, huh?" Harry said, leaning in a bit too close for comfort.

"Yeah, I'm Miles," he replied, attempting to be friendly.

"I don't care what your name is," Harry shot back, his voice low and menacing as he leaned closer. "Your name could be 'Fart' for all I care."

Miles felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He could sense the tension in the air, and Jason shifted in his seat, clearly worried about how this would play out. Trying to remain calm, Miles took a deep breath and responded, "Look, I'm just here to have a nice meal. No need for this."

Harry's grin widened, but there was a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. "Oh, this meal?" Harry taunted, stepping even closer. With a sudden, swift motion, he grabbed Miles's tray and smashed it right into his face, splattering food everywhere.

Laughter erupted from the surrounding tables, and Miles felt a rush of embarrassment flood his cheeks. He wiped his eyes, trying to regain his composure as bits of spaghetti and sauce dripped down his shirt.

Miles glanced at Jason, who gave him a slight nod, silently encouraging him to stand his ground. "I'm not trying to act cool. I just want to fit in," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.

"Oh, you'll fit in, just right," Harry replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "But maybe not in the way you think."

Before Miles could respond, Jason spoke up, his voice shaking. "Hey Man, we are just trying to have lunch like everyone else we don't mean any trouble".

You want a piece of this too? you want it? I guess not, so shut your mouth.

The tension hung in the air, and for a moment, it felt like anything could happen.

Harry leaned in close to Miles's ear and whispered menacingly, "Stay away from Gwen if you still want to keep your head."

Miles felt his heart race, a mix of humiliation and anger boiling inside him. He remained quiet, not wanting to give Harry the satisfaction of a reaction. But before he could collect his thoughts, Harry grabbed a bottle of water and poured it over Miles's head. The cold water cascaded down, soaking his hair and drenching his shirt.

A loud "Ohhhh…" erupted from the cafeteria, followed by a chorus of laughter, others brought out their phones and start recording the scene.

Miles felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment as he stood there, dripping and exposed.

Jason, seated next to him, shot up with a furious look on his face. "What's with you, Harry? That's just cruel!" he shouted, stepping between Miles and the laughing crowd.

Miles wiped the water from his eyes, feeling a mix of anger and determination rise within him. "You think this is funny?" he said, his voice steadier than he expected. "It's just childish. You don't scare me."

For a brief moment, the laughter faltered, and a surprised silence swept through the room. Harry's confident smirk wavered, and he seemed caught off guard by Miles's response.

"Whatever," Harry scoffed, trying to regain his composure. He turned to walk away, his followers trailing behind, the laughter now replaced by murmurs of disbelief.

As the tension faded, Jason looked at Miles with admiration. "You stood up to him! That was awesome!" he said, a grin spreading across his face.

"Thanks," Miles replied, feeling a rush of relief. The humiliation was still there, but he felt a sense of strength bubbling up inside him. "I just didn't want to let him control me."

Miles walked out of the cafeteria in shame and humiliation, he could still hear murmurs and whispers in the cafeteria and others laughing from distance. Jason walked behind him. "hey man… Are you okay?" Jason asked. Miles remain quiet, "Let's get you cleaned up".

Miles rushed into the male rest room, frantically trying to scrub the stains off his shirt. His white jacket made it all worse. "what is wrong with him? How did he even know I was with her? We only talked nothing else !" he muttered angrily, pulling a strand of spaghetti off his hair.

Harry was a spoilt kid and a bully also the most famous kid in school, everyone knew this apart from Miles, now he knows. Miles still couldn't believe Harry could do such a thing because of a mere conversation with his girlfriend, he thought to him self I think this is also about the basketball game, he remembered how Harry hit him and how he stared at him on the ground..

"why does he have to humiliate me like this? What does he get out of this ? he could have just walk up to me and ask me to stay away from his girl, I would have listened. Miles said looking frustrated.

Jason leaned against the door with his arms on his hoodie pocket, shaking his head. " I warned you about him, man. Harry is a bully. Everyone in school knows about this. He won't stop here. You need to stay away from Gwen… she is not worth the drama and humiliation don't be stubborn bro".

Miles sighed, defeated. "Yeah, maybe you are ri….".

"I've been right all this while you don't just listen", Jason said cutting in "Harry is a lot of trouble he could hurt you and there's nothing the school authority will do about it. his family is respected in all of New York, his Dad is a billionaire, you see the reputation and power. most people fear them. guess what?.. Harry is the only child so you see why he thinks he could do anything to anyone and get away with it? Because he could actually do it ".

You're right.. but I'm not scared of him or his dad, I wasn't even that close to Gwen, how can he restrict me from talking to a girl, I know my rights you know… I'll only stay off her to avoid drama, Harry is a psychopath.. he really messed me up. I hate him! Miles said angrily

Jason nodded. "I'll grab something for you from the lost and found, alright ? you cant go out with that, its all messed up"

"Thanks, Bro," Miles replied, struggling to take of his jacket

Jason gave him a quick smile before heading out. "I got you, bro".

Miles waited for Jason in the rest room it was over 10 minutes and Jason isn't back yet. "Where are you dude?", he said to himself.

Other student came into the rest room, not to use it but to laugh at Miles. who stood alone with his hands on his face, his bare chest and his backpack hung across his shoulder. It was not looking good for miles as he was the talk of the day in the school.

Jason rushed into the restroom, a brown shirt clutched in his arm, panting like he had just sprinted a marathon. "This was the best I could find!" he exclaimed, trying to catch his breath.

Without looking, Miles grabbed the shirt and pulled it over his head, eager to cover his bare chest. As he felt the fabric drape over him, he realized it was oversized and had "Girl Power" emblazoned across the front. It hung loosely, almost like a dress.

"What did you get me?" he shouted at Jason, incredulous.

Jason struggled to contain his laughter. "Hey, this is the best I could find! You can check it yourself if you think I'm wrong."

"This will definitely make everything worse," Miles said, disappointment lacing his voice.

"It's fine! I'll wear it till the end of school. It's much better than that ruined jacket," he conceded, trying to see the bright side.

"Time for math class! Let's hurry up," Jason urged, already moving toward the door.

"Alright, bro, let's go," Miles replied

As they walked through the hallway, the laughter began almost instantly. A group of students spotted Miles in the oversized brown shirt, and some started chanting "Girl Power!" The sound echoed around him, and Miles felt heat creep up his face, embarrassment washing over him.

"Just ignore them," Jason said, trying to keep pace beside him. But it was hard to block out the giggles and snickers that seemed to follow them.

Miles quickened his steps, wishing he could disappear. Each laugh felt like a jab, and he focused on the ground ahead. "This is so humiliating," he muttered, pushing through the crowd.

"It'll blow over," Jason reassured him, but Miles could barely hear him over the noise. He just wanted to reach their math class and escape the scrutiny.
