Chapter 5: 5: Goro Goro no mi
Enel's strength had reached that of a low-level Yonko officer, while his was about 2.5 levels higher. Even though Eren wasn't sure how strong that was, he was quite satisfied with that level. Enel's strength was probably somewhere around the level of some of the weaker Tobiroppo, or someone like Nice Robin or Brook at the end of Onigashima.
At the moment, his own strength still depended mostly on his Heaven Fruit, which was the only reason why he could still beat Enel in a fight, although he would probably only be able to kill him by exhausting his Haki with the help of his Fruit. Enel had left him in the dust when it came to Haki.
While his Armament Haki seemed to be at the same stage as Enel's, he was about to develop it to the next level. Even his Observation Haki was about to evolve again.
There was another piece of bad news for Eren. He had decided to finally take the initiative and look for the Goro-Goro no mi. Although Enel should theoretically find it in the next year, Eren wasn't sure how his presence had changed the plot.
He also wanted to make sure that Enel would be able to develop it to at least Beginner II by the time they left Skypiea in a year. In addition, he hoped that he would be able to catch up with him in mastering Haki as long as he kept his brothers' attention on something else.
That was why Eren had given Enel a whole day off. He already regretted it, because the floor of their villa was soaked with tears of joy and he would probably have to replace it.
At the moment, Eren had been searching for a whole hour and still hadn't found any trace of the fruit. His only clue was that Enel had probably found it on Birka. He also knew that the fruit was already there, since it had been missing for a hundred years. There was no chance that its user was still alive.
He had already covered about a third of Birka and still had not found it. After another 2 hours, he had almost reached the other end of the island when his Observation Haki finally picked up on something.
'Ugh, finally! I was about to give up. If I had started on the other side of the island, I would have been done in 10 minutes. That's just my luck, I guess.'
He had found an inconspicuous cave, covered with thick vines and a lot of bushes. No wonder no one had ever entered it before. Eren decided to teleport into the cave, as there might be other valuables inside that would benefit from being hidden.
What greeted him after he stepped through the portal was a large, hollow space, which he had already sensed from the outside. What he wasn't prepared for, however, were the walls filled with beautiful paintings depicting the history of the Birkans.
The first painting was of 3 slightly different people standing on the moon. 2 of them had pairs of large wings, while one of them had 4 drums on his back instead. They were similar to the ones owned by Enel.
The second picture showed them slowly starving on the moon until they finally left it and made their way to earth with their family.
So far the story went according to Eren's memory, but suddenly it changed. Instead of simply settling down on Skypiea, the humans started out on the surface of the planet, which was mostly covered by trees and soil instead of the current masses of water.
It showed their development on the new planet for a few paintings until the scene changed. The colors used became darker and Eren could feel a depressive aura emanating from these images. The three people were preparing for war.
The next scenes were quite smudged and he couldn't really recognize anything, but Eren could tell that the number of all 3 clans had decreased a lot after the big fight.
2 of them decided to leave the surface of the planet and live in the clouds instead, while the last clan decided to stay on the surface.
The people depicted were obviously the Birkans, Shandians and Skypieans. Interestingly, they'd originally been depicted with large wings, which seemed to have devolved since they were no longer of any real use.
'I guess Robin really missed out when they left Skypiea before finding this cave. Though I suppose it had probably been destroyed along with Birka by then.
The history depicted in this cave went back even further than the Void Century and would probably excite any Oharan or archaeologist.
It seems that even in the ancient past, there was a great enemy that needed all the people of the One Piece world to unite and resist it.
Could this be related to the "him" that the Will of the World seemed to be so afraid of? But it wouldn't make much sense for some random mortals to defeat 'him' when even the spirit of the world seemed to be so afraid of 'him'.
But even if they didn't fight 'him' directly, it was probably at least one of 'his' emissaries or something similar.
It's really a shame, though, that the wings of the Skypieans and Shandorians have degenerated so much. I honestly think they used to look a lot better. There was really no reason to get rid of them.'
Even though these murals didn't seem to include the recent 'ascension' of Shandoria and the war its inhabitants waged, it still gave a pretty good overview of the history of the three races.
After Eren finally managed to pull his gaze away from the murals, he focused on the rest of the cave for the first time. There wasn't much else to see, except for some plants growing over the ground and a lake with a tree in the middle.
On the tree, which was mostly filled with some strange fruits that Eren had never seen before, there was one fruit that he did regocnize.
'The Goro Goro no mi. It is said to be one of the few invincible devil fruits that exist in the world.'
Right in the middle of the tree top was a large golden fruit. It had the shape of a pear, the stem was shaped like a lightning bolt, and it had the typical swirling pattern of Devil Fruits, along with some jagged projections all over its body that seemed to resemble sparks of electricity.
Eren quickly teleported in front of it and plucked it from the tree. Almost as if he was afraid it would run away.
'System, show me its description.'
[Goro Goro no Mi - Lightning Fruit]
[The Logia of the Lightning Element. Combining extreme speed and attack, it grants its user the ability to become and control lightning itself. They can even unleash devastating attacks by calling down lightning from the sky. One of the few Devil Fruits that the inhabitants of the One Piece world and the system call invincible.]
[Rating: 5 Stars].
'It really is as powerful as the anime and manga promised. Well, not really, since Enel was portrayed as quite weak, but it deserves its reputation. At least the community recognized its true value.
Such a fruit was really wasted on someone like Enel. And now I'm going to give it back to him. What siblings don't do for each other.'
Although Eren's thoughts were slightly sarcastic, he really felt that Enel was a pretty good wielder of this fruit.
He was pretty smart, as shown by his creation of a flying ship made of pure gold, and he even developed an ingenious method enhancing his Observation Haki with the fruit.
The only thing Eren regretted was that he would probably get beaten up pretty badly in the next few days. This fruit will increase Enel's strength at least to the level of a High Yonko Officer.
But at least it will put Eren under a lot of pressure, which will hopefully help him to get stronger faster. After all, that's how diamonds are made.
Eren decided to teleport to their home right away, because he wanted to surprise Enel with the fruit as soon as possible. He hadn't told him about it yet and really wanted to see the surprise on his face. Especially when he ate it.
The moment he arrived at the villa, his mood turned sour. Enel was lying in a deckchair with cucumbers on his eyes, enjoying the sun. Doesn't he know how much his brother has suffered for him in the last 3 hours?
Honestly, not that much, but still! It's the thought that counts.
It seemed as if the guy was deeply asleep, so Eren decided to give him a wet awakening.
He opened a portal right under his chair, which led nowhere else but directly into the blue sea below them.
As soon as Enel fell into the water, he was wide awake and cursed Eren for his pranks.
"Get me up right now. You said I'd have the day off, so why are you ruining it for me?" Eren cursed, but his complaints fell on deaf ears.
"Hmpf, don't you know better than to relax while your little brother gives his all and turns the world upside down just to find a huge present for you."
At the mention of the word present, Enel suddenly turned all ears. He suddenly forgot that he was still in the water and instead looked at Eren with puppy eyes.
This only made him feel disgusted. "You are 28 already. When will you learn to be ashamed? You're not a cute toddler."
In the end, the tactic was still effective, because Eren decided to teleport the two of them up again. After all, Enel would probably drown if he ate the Devil Fruit while still in seawater.
When they reappeared in Skypiea, Eren took the fruit out of his pocket and presented it to Enel, who looked at it with great curiosity.
"What is this?"
