Chapter 738: Chapter 717 ( Attack on Verbergen - VIII )
"Mom!" - Shea exclaimed at the sight of her mother, who was smiling at the sound of her voice.
"Shea, my baby" - smiled Mona as she looked at her daughter with tears in her eyes, only to grab one of the bunny girl's ears and pull it hard.
"Why!" - Shea exclaimed tearfully.
"That's for not calling us!" - Mona said with a frown - "I know you're enjoying your adventurous days, young lady, but that doesn't mean you don't have the time so you can talk to your worried parents!"
"Ugh" - Shea ducked her head to hide the embarrassment as she noticed how the other girls looked at her with teasing smiles on their faces.
"I hope it won't happen again, Shea, because otherwise, when you come back you'll be in big trouble" - Mona said neutrally - "Is that clear?"
"Like crystal, mom" - replied Shea as her eyes blurred with tears.
"Ok" - nodded Mona with a huge smile, though her expression quickly changed to a serious one when she heard the sound of someone approaching.
Yue and the others looked towards the source of the sound, only to see a group of lion men approaching their location.
"As our contact said, she really is here, and not only that, we also have other girls, even some humans" - said the one who looked like the leader of the group of lion men.
"Who are you?" - Yue asked with a frown.
"Keep quiet, you little bitch!" - exclaimed the second lion man as he licked his lips.
"Oh, I see, typical cliché plot of novels" - sighed Kaori while holding the bridge of her nose - "You know, typical coincidences that end up with a bunch of jerks trying to overstep their boundaries with the protagonist's girls, or they were about to make a move and the protagonists arrive, only to get beaten up without coming from"
The others stared at her for a few seconds not knowing what to say.
"What, I had to read a lot of stories and play a lot of video games to have a topic of conversation with Cloud-kun and Nagumo-kun" - Kaori replied while averting her gaze.
"It's a bit strange, though I appreciate your dedication" - Yue said as she shook her head, then looked at the group of lion men - "Ironically, your words encapsulate this situation well."
The lion men looked confused, though they quickly understood that they were being insulted so they jumped into action, after all, this was the best opportunity to be able to have some fun.
Yue shook her head before raising a hand and snapping his fingers.
The lion men didn't understand what happened before they felt their bodies freeze completely.
"Ready..." - Yue said as she shook her head.
The others shrugged because this wasn't the first, nor the last time someone would try.
"What do we do with them?" - Shea asked while frowning.
"I have a plan, so don't worry" - Yue replied as she shrugged her shoulders because these would be good sacrifices to Cloud's plan. She quickly waved her hands and teleported the lion men to an unknown location before looking around - "Where were we?"
* * * * *
"This place is in a much worse state than I thought, though the casualties aren't that many" - Cloud said while analyzing the overall situation on Verbergen - "I guess they did a good job escorting the civilians, though now I'm wondering where they took them?"
"Hmm, I'm curious too, though from the looks of it, they're nowhere near Verbergen" - Tio replied as she frowned - "Maybe they used a teleportation seal like the one inside the mazes?"
"It's possible, though we'd better ask the sages directly" - Cloud said calmly as he jumped onto the roof of another house.
Tio quickly spread her wings and followed the blond until the two reached a building that seemed to be guarded by a group of harpies.
"Stop!" - Arty exclaimed as he frowned - "Who are you?"
"Wait!" - A female voice exclaimed.
"Princess, don't come out, these are unknown subjects!" - Arty exclaimed, though it was quite obvious that Altina paid him no heed - "Princess!"
"Relax, they're allies, I can feel it" - Altina replied as she watched the forest spirits seem to be glued to the blond, as if they were close friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time - "Who are you?"
"It's a little strange that you would ask that right after saying we're allies" - Cloud said as he shook his head.
"I know, it's just that I can sense the forest spirits trusting you, that's why I said you are our allies" - Altina replied with a smile - "Now, I'd like to know your names."
Cloud raised an eyebrow at the sight of the beautiful elven girl who was about his age, though this was easily a shame because elves kept their youth for much longer than humans.
"My name is Cloud Strife, and this is Uncle Klarus" - Cloud replied as he looked at the girl calmly - "We are a group that has come to help Verbergen, though seeing the current situation, I feel it is best that you evacuate everyone present."
Altina was silent as she pondered these words - "That's impossible, this city is the most important thing to us, so we won't leave unless we dwell."
"I understand what you are trying to express, but you have to understand that the life of your people, is much more important than a city they can rebuild, or reconquer" - Cloud answered seriously - "I know this place has been your home for generations..."
"You don't understand, Verbergen is the last place we can call home" - Arty said while frowning - "This is the culmination of all our ancestors' efforts."
"Are you saying that you plan to sacrifice all the inhabitants of this place so that you can continue your stupid pride in your ancestors' achievements?" - Cloud asked neutrally as he looked around and noticed how everyone lowered their heads for a few seconds before nodding - "I see, I guess your pride is more important than the survival of your species, well, if you want to die, I'm no one to stop you"
Altina frowned because she didn't like this boy's attitude - "And what do you know about our situation, human?"
"Human?" - Cloud repeated as he raised an eyebrow before he started laughing louder and louder - "Did you hear that, Tio? She thinks I'm a human?"
"I know, I find it funny too, Cloud, though it's not like we can blame her when your aura is hidden inside your body" - replied Tio as she laughed lightly before shaking her head.
"Oh, you're right" - nodded Cloud as his pupils changed.
Altina shivered as she felt the shadowy aura surrounding the blond "human's" body, more so when she saw how the forest spirits seemed to move away from him for fear of being consumed.
Cloud's shadow spread, and everyone present noticed how it changed into a strange serpentine shape.
Tio raised an eyebrow because this silhouette did not resemble the shape Cloud took when he transformed. She could notice the clear similarities, such as the two long wings, but everything else seemed to be very different.
Cloud raised an eyebrow when he saw this, though he quickly understood why. The more divinity he consumed, the closer his transformation into a true Nidhogg became, though with the clear characteristics of a [Tyrant] which was the ability to consume other creatures to continue evolving, and that's not counting his ability to consume elements so he could accumulate them in his internal [elemental forge].
Tio trembled slightly when she took a closer look at the blond's shadow because she could feel that she was not only in front of a dragon, but also in front of the ultimate predator.
Cloud let out a mighty roar that shook the building.
Altina fell to the ground with her butt as she looked at the blond with apprehension because now she understood that he was not a human as she first thought, but something much worse, something dangerous that for now was sleeping and it was better not to wake up - "I-I'm sorry!"
"Don't apologize, we just have different opinions" - Cloud answered while shaking his head - "Anyway, I came to say that I'm only going to save the people of Verbergen, but I'm not going to lift a finger for the city."
"That doesn't make sense" - said Arty as he regained his composure - "If the city falls, the people will suffer the consequences."
"That's where you're wrong" - Cloud replied as he turned around and prepared to leave - "I'm going to send my party to escort the inhabitants to a safe place for them to dwell, perhaps near the big tree."
"What if they don't want to go with you?" - Arty asked disdainfully because he knew their people would not give up their home so easily.
"Well, if that happens..." - Cloud said neutrally - "They will have to accept the consequences of their decisions."
