Chapter 733: Chapter 712 ( Attack on Verbergen - IV )

"Is there any news of my grandfather?" - Altina asked as she frowned with concern.

"I'm sorry, but we have no news of sage Ulfric" - replied a harpy-.

"And what about the other sages?" - Altina asked as she looked around the room

"Still unconscious, though according to the doctors, without any damage" - answered the harpy seriously - "According to the medical reports, Miss Mao is about to wake up."

"That's good to hear..." - Altina sighed, though her expression changed when she heard the sound of someone approaching her room - "Attention!"

The soldiers quickly stood on guard as they waited for the one responsible to enter the room, though they calmed down when they heard it was one of their own

"Calm down, princess, it's the harpy I had left in charge of guarding Lord Ulfric" - replied the harpy as they watched the door open, revealing a pink-haired girl of about 10 - "Speak, Mimi."

"The battle is over" - replied the harpy named Mimi as she looked at the second in command of her squadron - "There was a problem, though."

"Problem?" - Altina repeated in terror as she looked at the newcomer - "What problem?"

"Mr. Ulfric used a magic that filled the building with plants, so I couldn't see the end result" - replied Mimi as she frowned

"So we have nothing?" - asked the second in command of the harpy squadron - "This is bad."

"Relax, Arty, I was able to see how Mr. Ulfric finished with the traitor before the plants blocked my view of the building" - replied Mimi proudly.

"It's still worrisome, so we'd better go see what's going on" - replied Arty while shaking his head - "Don't worry, Princess Altina, we'll soon find out what happened to your grandfather."

"Thank you" - nodded Altina as she let out a sigh.

"I think we'd better get moving because we haven't heard back from Kam" - said Cloud with a frown - "It's possible that he's busy, but it's still better to be safe than sorry"

"And what do we do about the natural barrier preventing our advance?" - Kaori asked with a frown.

"I can sense that the mana flow is weaker from the sky, so I think it would be a good idea for me to fly to Verbergen" - replied Tio seriously - "Whoever was responsible for modifying the natural barrier of the sea of trees, didn't notice this little detail, or maybe they didn't care."

"Well, that works for us" - nodded Cloud as he took some materials and started to transmute them into a few parachutes for the girls who couldn't land naturally - "There, we're done with all the preparations, so we'd better get started with the operation."

"Hai!" - The girls exclaimed earnestly.

Tio quickly transformed into her dragon form and took flight as everyone in the group climbed on her back, only to notice how everything around her began to be surrounded by a strange mist.

"Relax, this is a natural effect of the sea of trees, we just have to keep moving straight ahead" - Cloud said as he started channeling mana into his eyes in the same way he had done with the Nen. It was possible that he had lost the ability to use his aura like in the [Hunter x Hunter] world, but that didn't mean he couldn't use everything he learned from that place.

"Cloud... Can you see through the fog?" - Tio asked as she paused for a few seconds because she felt like she had lost her way, even though she was going straight.

"I can see it, sort of" - Cloud replied with a frown.

"Can you guide me safely?" - Tio asked again.

"Yes, although you're going to have to make sharp turns" - Cloud replied as the dragon woman nodded - "Ok, keep going."

Tio continued flying while making drastic turns as they moved forward when she unconsciously made a strange turn.

The group continued flying until they heard the sound of gunshots.

"Fly higher!" - Cloud exclaimed as he looked down.

"Ok!" - Tio exclaimed as she increased the altitude of her flight.

The girls were a bit confused before noticing as countless magical attacks.

"They're attacking us!" - Remia exclaimed in surprise.

"It's possible that the demons can see through the fog, that's why they can move so easily" - Cloud replied with a frown - "I guess they saw your silhouette, that's why they attacked us."

The girls didn't say anything, they just looked at each other before concentrating on getting to Verbergen fast.

"Let's keep going" - said Cloud as he looked down to the ground and could see nothing but fog.

"Ok" - nodded Tio as she sped up.

"They're gone, sir" - said a demon as he looked at the silhouette that had passed over them, flying towards the city of the demi-humans.

"So I see, though maybe this is good" - said the general as he shook his head - "Anyway, I want to know one thing, how far are we from the first division's camp?"

"Thirty minutes to go, my lord" - replied the dominion while frowning.

"Ok, I want you to be attentive because we have to make sure we carry out our orders" - said the general while squinting his eyes.

"I don't understand, sir" - said the subordinate while looking at his leader - "Why do we have to kill our brothers?"

"Because they are against our desire for supremacy" - replied the general neutrally - "All the other generals know that they oppose our queen's orders."

"But that doesn't mean we have to kill them" - said the subordinate with a frown.

"We would, if they didn't try to intervene in our operation" - replied the general while shaking his head.

"Why? That doesn't make sense" - said the subordinate.

"Because for us, power is the most important thing, and there are part of our people who are not happy with the idea of the queen being in power" - replied the general as he was starting to get annoyed to be explaining so much.

"Oh, I understand" - nodded the subordinate before thinking for a few seconds and asking something else.

"Ok, that's enough" - said the general as he narrowed his eyes - "If you want to know more, you're going to have to wait until this operation is over, and to get you out of the way, I'll just tell you that this operation has been approved by all the generals, except for the ones in the first division."

The subordinate remained silent before nodding and withdrawing, after all, it was quite obvious that his superior had already lost his patience after so many questions"

"Where am I?" - Belta muttered as she grabbed her head, confused because she couldn't remember anything since she had entered this strange place.

"I see you've woken up..."

"Hey!" - Belta let out a cry of terror when she heard that voice, though for some strange reason she found it familiar - "Who are you?"

"It's kind of sad that you don't remember me, Belta..."

"Do you know who I am?" - Belta asked hopefully because for the first time since she started her short journey, she had found a clue to discover his identity.

"Of course I know, we've known each other for years, though I'm surprised to see you after all these eras."

"Wait a second... Eras!" - Berta exclaimed in surprise as she felt a sharp headache - "Impossible..."

"I think the same thing, but no matter how I look at it, your aura and personality is the same as the one I remember, so I don't think you're fake..."

"I AM REAL!" - Bertha exclaimed in fear because she could feel that a truth she didn't want to hear, was getting closer and closer.

"I know, although I don't understand, the last time I heard from you, was when Miledi-chan told us that you had died..."

An explosion occurred in Belta's head as she felt the pain getting sharper and sharper.

"I... Died?" - Belta muttered as she gritted her teeth in order to resist the pain in her head - "Impossible, I'm alive, I can feel it in the pulse of my heart, by the way my blood runs through my veins."

"That's why I'm surprised, though at the same time I'm a little confused.... How is it possible that you managed to appear in this era and looking so young when you were an ordinary human, and it's been centuries since you supposedly died?"

Belta fell silent before letting out a sharp cry of pain as she grabbed her head. Unable to do anything about it, she felt as countless images began to appear in her mind, one after another and without seeming to stop.

The woman with amnesia, could only grit her teeth as she resisted the flood of memories that seemed to have been awakened by the words of this unfamiliar, yet familiar voice.

"Did I really die?" - Belta murmured as she began to remember her last moments, how the girl she had tried to free came running over before she lost consciousness - "Mi.... chan..."
