Chapter 727: Chapter 706 ( Slave - I )

"My lord, we have found signs of movement in the forest along with a small magical concentration" - said an elf as he looked at the leader Verbergen.

"Magical concentration?" - Ulfric repeated as he frowned - "From which direction?"

The elf pulled out a map and pointed to an area northeast of Verbergen, only to notice as Ulfric frowned - "Something wrong, sir?"

"That area directly overlooks Raisen, that is, there shouldn't be such a clear magical concentration" - Ulfric said as he signaled the elf to call the other councilors because he had a bad feeling.

When he saw that he was alone, he quickly used an incantation to try to contact the forest spirits, which responded after a few seconds - "Forest brothers, I want you to tell me what you know."

A delicate breeze drifted past the nose of the elf, who had his eyes closed, as if listening to the sound of nature.

"Ulfric, I hope this is serious because I was making preparations for the spirit festival" - said a young woman with wings instead of arms and heels instead of feet.

"It's obviously important" - Ulfric answered seriously while squinting his eyes - "Much more important than the festival, Mao."

"What's going on?" - Sif, the new leader of the tiger clan asked after Zel was forced out of his post because of the constant run-ins he had had against the Haulia clan members.

"One of my subordinates found a magical concentration near the outer area of the sea of trees" - Ulfric replied while frowning - "The spirits of the forest informed me that they found a demonic presence."

The gaze of the leaders of the most important clans of Verbergen widened their eyes, surprised by this news, after all, it was general knowledge that the sea of trees had the strange power to drive away humans and monsters alike, unless they had a concrete way to be able to pass through the constant illusions that could be considered as the last line of defense of their realm.

"Is what you say true?" - Mao asked with a frown - "Because if so, then we need to prepare."

"Prepare?" - Sif repeated as he frowned - "You say they will attack us?"

"It's possible, I wouldn't even be surprised if it was the demons" - Mao answered seriously - "I just received the information that the human realm was attacked by them and ended up being defeated."

"That's good to hear, but that doesn't explain why you say that we are now following, this may be a mere coincidence" - Sif answered seriously.

"Why are you so reluctant to the idea that we might be attacked?" - Guze, u elder dwarf and leader of his clan, as well as Verbergen's greatest master smith, asked.

"It just doesn't make sense, I mean, the demons just suffered a crude defeat against the humans and we are superior to them, so it's ridiculous that they would now come to bite our buttocks" - Sif answered seriously as the lesser leaders nodded at his words - "Tell me, leader Mao, what were the demons' losses?"

"Immeasurable, they lost much of their army" - Mao replied as he frowned.

"You see? It is impossible for the demons to attack us" - said Sif proudly - "And even if that were the case, the humans managed to annihilate us, we who are superior beings will do so too, and the damage will be much worse!"

Ulfric frowned as he felt that there was something strange about all this - "I want you to start preparations to defend Verbergen as soon as possible!"

"I understand, I will tell our forces that we will go into level 2 precaution against enemies" - Guze said seriously, after all, he was one of those people who didn't like to take risks.

"Mao, I want you to keep a group of harpies in the sky at all times in case of strange movements in the sea of trees, the spirits have not lied to me in my entire life, and this will not be the first time" - Ulfric said seriously.

The elders looked at each other because they could remember all the times Ulfric had saved some Verbergen inhabitants who had been kidnapped by humans near the edge of the sea of trees.

"Ok, if those are your orders, I'll carry them out no problem" - nodded Mao as she crossed her wings.

Sif was silent as he clicked his tongue, not noticing how Ulfric was scowling at him.

"If that's all, I guess I'll start my preparations" - Sif said as he stood up from his seat.

The other clan leaders and elders who were in charge of Verbergen, withdrew one after another, leaving only Ulfric and Guze in the room.

"Do you know why Lua didn't show up for the meeting?" - Ulfric asked as he looked at his old friend.

"I have no idea" - answered Guze as he took out a pipe and started smoking - "I was also confused by his absence, more so when he is one of the first to show up."

"This gives me a very bad feeling" - Ulfric said with a frown - "I need you to do me a favor."

"You only have to tell me what you want, and I will do it, old friend, remember that you have saved my life more than once" - smiled Guze as he looked at the current leader of the Verbergen elves.

"Thank you" - smiled Ulfric, though his expression quickly changed to a serious one - "I want you to investigate as much as you can about Sif, and if you can, I want you to try to contact Lua, her absence is worrying"

"I will do so at once" - Guze said as he left the room.

Ulfric was silent as he felt the spirits begin to rampage for an unknown reason, as if a huge shadow was settling over his home - "I promise you Verbergen will not fall, we will protect our home."

"I'm sorry, my lord!" - Sif exclaimed as he ducked his head at the projection before him. From his terrified expression, it was obvious that this stranger was someone who had tormented him for days, it was even possible years.

The lion clan leader had sent his subordinates elsewhere and quickly contacted his master.

[Calm down, this was not your mistake...]

"No, it was my mistake because I failed to get them to desist with their defenses!" - Sif exclaimed as he trembled with a pale face.

His expression of dominance was gone, the brave lion was nowhere to be seen, now there was only a frightened kitten.

[Hmm... Really?]

Sif nodded weakly as he bit his lip, only to start letting out cries of pain - "Argh!"

[I guess I'll have to punish you then!]

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, master!" - Sif exclaimed tearfully as he convulsed on the ground.

[Well, at least you did the job halfway, you managed to capture one of the elders and delayed the preparations for the war, that's something I have to appreciate]

"T-Thank you, master..." - Sif muttered as she bit her lip.

"Well, I want you to kill the old man quickly and put one of his loyal subordinates in his place, with that we can further hinder Verbergen's preparations].

"This time I will not fail, master" - answered Sif as he looked up with difficulty.

[I hope so, because if you fail me again, there will be no one to save your tribe from the cruelty of the demons]

"H-Hai!" - Sif exclaimed as he hit the ground with his head.

[Remember, this is your last chance...]

Sif slowly raised his head as he saw that the projection had disappeared, possibly to prevent the elves from detecting the magical distortion produced by the high-distance communication magic that used the bondage mark on his back as a catalyst.

Yes, Sif, the current leader of the lion clan, was nothing more than a miserable slave of one of the demon generals, who had been "freed" so that he could serve as a spy among the Verbergen high command.

Sif slowly got up and walked to one of the walls of the room, only to pull out a strange book, and in the process, opening a secret passageway.

The lion leader quickly reached a new room, which he entered without much complication.

"Verbergen will not fall" - muttered a male voice.

Sif narrowed his eyes before gritting his teeth and walking fiercely at the man responsible for these words, a wounded man with broken fox ears and a long fluffy tail covered in blood.

"That's what you think, old man Lua" - said Sif as he growled fiercely and grabbed the head of the fox clan leader.

Lua's eyes widened with difficulty, only to shoot a look of hatred at the traitor - "How dare you betray your home!!! Ugh!"

"I recommend you not to anger the person who holds your life in his hands anymore" - Sif said neutrally while giving him a firm punch in the stomach that made the fox man vomit - "Let's go back to the beginning, I want you to tell me everything you know about the safety of Verbergen and I promise to give you a quick and painless death"

"Fuck you" - growled Lua disdainfully, only to let out a sharp cry of pain.
