Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Gel
Sitting silently in his chair, Xiao Yan refrained from conversing with Yao Lao. After all, this was someone else's territory; who could guarantee there wasn't any surveillance here?
After a while, the middle-aged man returned, but this time he was accompanied by a white-haired, rosy-cheeked elderly woman—the Treasure Pavilion's master. Unbeknownst to Xiao Yan, this pavilion was affiliated with Shrek Academy, under the authority of the Sea God Pavilion Council.
"Sir, this is our pavilion master, Elder Lin, a titled Douluo at the ninety-sixth level," the man introduced respectfully.
The elderly woman, known as Elder Lin or Lin Huiqun, was one of Shrek Academy's elders on the Sea God Pavilion.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Yan raised a brow under his hood. This was the first time he'd encountered a female titled Douluo. He took a moment to examine her appearance: although aged, her face glowed with vitality. Her green robe seemed ordinary, yet hints of energy radiated from it. As he observed her, Elder Lin also subtly assessed him.
The middle-aged man carefully picked up the jade bottle and handed it to her. "Elder Lin, this is the Foundation-Building Pill, which the guest claims can raise innate soul power by three levels. We've tested it, and there are no issues."
Elder Lin took the bottle, sniffed it, and her eyes narrowed as a flash of understanding appeared. Turning to Xiao Yan, she asked, "Are you planning to auction these pills, sir?"
"Yes, I need the money as soon as possible," came the aged, mysterious voice from beneath the hood.
"Of course. Coincidentally, we have an auction scheduled shortly. Your items will be up for bidding then," Elder Lin replied with a smile. "Considering their effects, the total starting price should be around a million gold soul coins."
Xiao Yan nodded quietly, relieved to have his financial concerns resolved. He then asked, "Do you have any spiritual elixirs here that can restore soul power?"
The question surprised Elder Lin. She thought for a moment before responding carefully, "Treasures that restore spiritual strength are indeed rare. Even with our extensive resources, they are challenging to come by."
"If you'd like, sir, you can leave us a contact address. We will inform you immediately if we come across such an item."
"No need." Xiao Yan shook his head slightly. "If that's all, I'll browse the auction house and see if anything else is of interest."
Not wanting to leave any contact information that might reveal his identity, Xiao Yan turned to leave.
"As you wish. If you need anything else, please let us know," Elder Lin said, handing him a golden card. "This is a VIP card. After deducting the handling fee, the remaining proceeds from the auction will be deposited here."
Xiao Yan nodded, accepted the card, and, without further delay, left the appraisal room.
Once the door closed and Xiao Yan's footsteps faded, Elder Lin tapped her finger on the table thoughtfully. Her old eyes gleamed with intrigue. "A pill that raises innate soul power by three levels... It will undoubtedly cause a stir across the continent."
"Pills, huh? He could be from the Sun Moon Empire, as they're known to rely on medicinal enhancements. But why would such a powerful figure come to Shrek City? Given the timing, with new students arriving, I'd better report this to the Sea God Pavilion to be cautious."
Elder Lin pressed a hidden panel in the wall, revealing a dark passage. Stepping in, she muttered to herself as her footsteps echoed.
…
After leaving the appraisal room, Xiao Yan wandered through the auction house. When he passed a certain display case, Yao Lao's voice suddenly echoed in his mind, "Xiao Yan, buy the item in the third case on your left."
"This is a rare find; don't miss it."
Xiao Yan blinked, surprised. "Teacher, is this something that can restore soul power?"
"No, but it'll benefit you," Yao Lao replied.
Following the guidance, Xiao Yan approached the third display case on the left, where a dark crystal-like substance lay. It was dull and jagged, with a description below: "Millennium Whale Gel. A rare substance derived from the brain of whale-type soul beasts, known to strengthen muscles, bones, and meridians. This particular gel is said to come from a thousand-year demon whale but is dark due to age degradation."
The price of the whale gel was not high, only six thousand gold soul coins.
"I sense it has powerful physical enhancement properties. Buy it, and I'll refine it into a pill. That way, you won't need to endure any more painful body-strengthening exercises," Yao Lao explained.
Hearing this, Xiao Yan didn't hesitate. He took the golden card and reserved the item, intending to collect it once the funds from his auctioned pills were available.
Half an hour later, the pills were successfully auctioned for a total of 1.2 million gold soul coins. With the proceeds, Xiao Yan acquired the whale gel and, per Yao Lao's instructions, also purchased a selection of rare herbs before leaving the Treasure Pavilion.
…
Meanwhile, at Shrek Academy's Sea God Island.
In the heart of an artificial lake behind the Golden Iron Triangle stood a grand structure: the Sea God Pavilion.
The pavilion, with six stories over ten meters tall each, appeared both majestic and imposing. Inside the main hall, a single old man sat at an oval table, disheveled and covered in grease, a chicken leg in one hand and a wine jug in the other, looking entirely at ease.
"Elder Xuan, there was a mysterious visitor at Tr
easure Pavilion today," a gentle voice called as Elder Lin entered.
