Chapter 9: YOU'LL NEVER WIN

ADRIANA'S POV

"You never cease to amaze me, Tesoro," He said as we walked through the gardens, his hands in his pockets.

"What?" I said meekly as I walked behind him.

"C'mon show me that fire," he said, his tone urging as he turned back to look at me, those hazel eyes burning with intensity.

"Huh?" I muttered.

"Ugh, I seriously don't know what to do with you" his tone turned annoyed and he focused back to the front, his expression fixed with a frown.

"I don't get you, why am I here?" I muttered, still trailing after him. "Look, if this is about me pointing that gun at you, I truly didn't mean it"

"Yeah sure, I'm sure you didn't mean to turn the safety off to aim at me properly" He snorted.

"It wasn't even loaded!" I countered.

"Tesoro, we don't train with unloaded guns, hm?" He rolled his eyes, his expression turning bored for a brief moment.

"Right. Look. I don't still get why I'm following you" I said with a slight frown.

"Calm down, I'm trying to see if that part of you is still there somewhere" he muttered, a slight confusion in his tone.

Okay, now he was being weird and it irked me. What part of me and why the hell did he want to see it?

"What part?" I asked confused.

"The one that burns. I'm so used to this… side of you so it's a nice change, don't you think? God, you don't know how thrilled I was when you pointed that gun at me" he said with a smile. A fucking genuine smile.

"What? Are you crazy or something?", I stopped in my tracks, looking at the man with a frown on my face.

"Deranged probably. It's been a while since I visited my therapist" He let out a chuckle that made me shudder.

"Yeah well maybe I should point guns more often at you, probably shoot a few times" I stared at him with a scowl on my face, walking again behind him as he folded his arms behind his back.

"Now the thought of that turns me on" he smirked.

"Ew," I muttered under my breath.

He simply kept walking and after about 2 minutes of silent walking, he suddenly paused and turned around, his hand swinging at me to hit me suddenly.

My eyes widened and I ducked in sheer reflex, moving to the side.

"Holy shit, what was that for?!" I yelled, my heart pounding at the sudden movement.

He stopped walking, his hazel eyes flashing with a fire that I was all too used to seeing today.

"You're fast" he muttered.

"Are you trying to kill me?!" I yelled.

He had just swung at me from nowhere and all he could say was "You're fast"?! What the actual fuck?!

"You still need more work but fast and nimble enough" he muttered to himself, his expression turning dark for another moment.

"Vincenzo!" I yelled at him.

"Hm, Tesoro?" He said with a blank look.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?!" My voice trembled as I spoke.

"Many things to be honest," he said nonchalantly.

"Don't you fucking pull that move on me again" I warned him.

His eyes darkened with something more feral this time and he took a menacing step towards me. "One thing you'll learn, Tesoro… is that threats do not work on me especially when they can't be carried out," he said with a twitch of the lips.

I wanted to run back into the house and curse him but I remained rooted to the spot, staring at the man who I was tied to, fuck, I would probably die before I found a way to get out of this shit.

"I hate you" I whispered.

"Not yet but you will," he said with a click of the fingers.

A fire burned in me and for a brief moment, I became brave and took a step closer to him. "You'll never win"

"Hm?" He smirked.

"I'll never let you win," I said through gritted teeth.

He crossed his arms and tilted his head. "I already have, you just don't know it yet"

"Empty words, Vincenzo" I retorted.

"Let's see if you can make me eat them", he lifted his brows and for that moment, I knew I wasn't looking at Vincenzo, I was looking at the Mafia Don and the look in his eyes scared me. It was murderous and filled with hatred. The question was, what did I do to deserve the hate in his eyes?

"I don't want to see you around the training center without my permission, is that clear, Tesoro?" His tone had turned hard and he looked back at the land that sprawled beyond.

"You can't force me to do that," I said, my eyes wide.

"Don't make me resort to force, Tesoro because I assure you that you won't like it. Trust me" he said with a glare at me.

He had personality switches, now I was facing off the one that wouldn't bother to kill me in a heartbeat and I honestly wasn't sure if that was a bad idea anymore.

"Keep walking, Tesoro, or head back inside. Either way, be aware that we have guests in the afternoon. It's your first official day as the Don's wife, I expect you to be at full attention" he said coldly as he kept walking.

A choice between continuing to walk with him and heading back into the house where I could be alone? I was game for the latter.

I didn't hesitate before I turned around, ignoring the few gazes on me as I walked back into the prison he called home. It was a cage for me.

As soon as I entered the house, I stopped at the door, my body shaking with anger. Who the fuck did he think he was?

I suddenly heard a voice that made me startled.

"Hey," the voice said from my side and I jerked, turning in haste to find Henry standing there with a sheepish look on his face.

"Henry… what are you doing here? Your beloved Don is outside" I muttered as I walked into the mansion properly, paying no heed to him until I heard him speak up again.

"Actually I was hoping I could talk to you. Alone" he said with a slow deliberate tone.

I halted in my tracks and I frowned.

Now what?
