Chapter 10: CONFRONTATION
ADRIANA'S POV
We were locked in a silent stand-off, my eyebrows furrowed as I tried to understand why he wanted to see me.
"Uh… not sure that…", I opened my mouth to say when he quickly cut in.
"Just a minute… Adriana" he said, a nervous look on his face.
He called me by my first name… bold and stupid.
"You have a lot of guts" I noted as I went to sit on the couch.
He followed me with his eyes and a serious look crossed his face. "That's what made me Second in command, isn't it? Being softhearted here isn't going to help anyone", he smiled at me but I didn't return it.
"Yeah, as I can see"
"I saw what happened at the training ground" he quickly said, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
A look of embarrassment crossed my face and I gulped, looking away slightly. "Yeah, well, what can I say? It was a mistake"
"Didn't look like it", he countered.
"Well, it pretty much wasn't" I retorted in a sarcastic tone.
He let out a chuckle and looked down to think about something before he looked back up at me.
"You were scared, weren't you?"
"I wasn't, thank you very much" I was quick to answer.
"You were"
"I said I wasn't," I said, my eyes wide with indignation.
A sudden voice from the door made us both freeze.
"She was and so should you, Henry"
The voice was enough to make chills run down my spine and we both turned to see Vincenzo standing there with a cool look on his face.
He was basically emotionless and that was what scared me to the core.
"Don Enzo" Henry bowed, a serious look on his face again.
"Yes, Henry. Mind telling me why you're here and not with Val at the training ground?" Vincenzo stepped into the house, taking off his leather gloves, his eyes fixed eerily on Henry who didn't falter under his gaze.
"Oh, I actually came to give you a report" He quickly said.
I just sat there on the couch, wondering if I could use the distraction to sneak upstairs but as if hearing my thoughts, Vincenzo turned his lifeless eyes to look at me and I froze in place, my fingers digging into the leather couch.
"Is my wife part of the report?", Vincenzo looked back at Henry who pinched his nose bridge.
"No sir. I was just making small talk with her" he said, his chin raised high.
Vincenzo smirked and nodded his head. "Hm, why don't we have our own small talk, Henry?" He paused then looked at me. "Alone" he clarified.
That was all the cue I needed before I stood up and rushed up the stairs, my feet heavy against the floorboard.
I wanted to spy on their conversation so badly but I decided to put it off for a while and instead get out of the itchy clothes I was wearing.
As soon as I made it into the room, I pulled off the clothes after locking the door then I went to take a shower and came back out in a bathrobe.
I had left my phone on the bed as I didn't need it to relax in the bathtub.
My mind raced with several thoughts, the most important one being, how long did I have to keep this up? I wanted to get out of this place? Sure, nothing had happened to me so far but I knew something was bad to happen someday. The question was when. I didn't even want to stick around to find out when that would happen or what would happen.
I needed to get my ass out of here in one piece.
My thoughts wandered back to the woman who I had the pleasure of meeting, she seemed like a pretty nice person but be damned if I was going to trust her that much. She was related to Vincenzo in some way and I didn't want to trust anyone that had anything to do with him.
I honestly wouldn't feel bad about using her in my scheme to get Vincenzo to leave me, seemed like a pretty good plan too.
Sitting in front of the mirror, I gently ran a comb through my hair as I thought about my father.
He was the reason for all this and I wanted to find him and understand why. Why did he do this? Why was he that desperate?
The sound of the door opening made me freeze and look back in time to see Vincenzo walk into the room with a frown on his face.
He looked at me with what seemed to be disdain before he sighed.
"A shower?" He asked with a raised brow.
I looked down and realized I was still wearing a bathrobe. "Oh, I uh…"
"Save it" he cut me off.
Talk about a mood swing.
"How did you get in?" I had to ask. I had locked the door so how did he get in?
He looked at me like I was stupid which I probably was before he ran a hand through his hair. "You do realize this is my house right? I have access to wherever I want" he muttered.
Right.
"Would have given you more credit for privacy" I said under my breath, returning my attention to the mirror, knowing that he was looking at me with an annoyed look on his face.
"Did Henry leave already?" I asked, not really caring but the way he was looking at me was beginning to creep me out which is why I had to change the subject.
Well not creep me out in a bad way… but still.
"That is none of your business but yes" he answered reluctantly.
Right, of course he wouldn't let me know much about what happens.
"I did tell you that we're having guests right?" He suddenly said, his hazel eyes fixed on me through the mirror.
"Yeah, do I need to know their names?", I asked, looking back at him.
"You don't need to know anything" he said with a hard tone.
"Good. It's already so much work knowing one of you, imagine knowing a lot of you" I scoffed
"No one is like me. I'm one of a kind" he didn't sound like he was gloating, more like stating facts.
"Narcissistic much?" I asked, looking at him through the mirror again.
"Only because I deserve it" he replied in a cold tone before he walked over to the bathroom and slammed the door behind him.
I visibly jerked at that sudden movement and I scoffed.
He was pissed off, I knew. Fuck knows why.
Did I care? No.
