Sold to the Capo

Chapter 7: Semantics, Tesoro

ADRIANA'S POV

"oh my fucking god, Vin! I can't believe…" She was freaking angry and I used the chance to check her out for some weird reason.

She was about an inch taller than me and was really beautiful, the dangerous kind of beauty, with honey-colored eyes and tan skin… she was beautiful and she apparently had history with him.

"Val. Enough" he growled, frowning as he walked into the house, leaving me at the door.

The woman stood at the door, her eyes dazed as he walked past her then she looked at me, her eyes softening.

"You must be Adriana.." she said with a stoic expression on her face but her tone had grown soft.

"Huh?" I muttered, unsure of where this conversation was heading. "Yeah, I'm Adriana and who may you be?" I asked with a slight frown as I looked the lady over.

"Valentina Marino" she introduced herself.

I looked over her shoulder at Vincenzo who was already hounding up the stairs, his body tense with every movement.

She followed my gaze and I noticed that her mood became sour. "Fucking… hell. Have you been briefed?" She asked, suddenly grabbing my hand as she led me to the couch.

"Briefed about what?" I asked confused as she made me sit on one of the couches.

Now I had more time to look at her, she was young, maybe younger than me perhaps.

"Who are you anyways?".

"I did say my name"

"Doesn't really explain who the fuck you are and what you're doing here" I said bluntly.

"A friend? Advisor? Not sure what term would suit me. I think we will get along, I'm Enzo's friend"

"Surprised he has a friend and a female one to be precise," I said eyeing her warily.

"Well I see myself to be his friend, I don't know what he sees me as. Point is, I'm aware of this twisted arrangement and I honestly wanted him to stop it but he fucking went ahead" She ran a hand through her brown silky hair.

"Well, nothing I can do, for now, is there?", I said, trying to act nonchalant.

Wrong, there were many things I could do but I didn't need to tell his friend that for fear that she would go ahead and tell him what I had told her. I barely knew the woman.

"Look… fuck, I'm so confused right now, this is so unfair to you, here, I don't have much time to stay in the mansion today but… during your stay here, I will be making it bearable for you, okay?" She was looking at me waiting for my answer.

I was looking at her with a raised brow wondering where this conversation was going when I heard a gruff voice from the top of the stairs.

"Times up, Val. See you another day"

We looked up to see Vincenzo now wearing a black turtleneck shirt and black trousers, staring down at us with that same frown on his face

"Yeah, Don Enzo, just giving your wife a pep talk of what she's to expect" She called up, her tone mocking.

Holy shit, she was bold. I couldn't believe how freely she was talking to him and he didn't say anything about it yet it didn't seem like they were in a relationship, she did say they were friends but how many years of friendship would it have taken to arrive at this sort of closeness?

He didn't answer her and she looked back at me. "I'll be back another time, okay? Maybe tomorrow? I don't know, anytime I'm free but I'll be sure to come by soon so that you don't feel quite lonely" She paused, looking up the stairs briefly. "Don't let him get to you" She patted my shoulder then she walked out, her boots clacking against the floor.

As soon as she got out, I looked back up the stairs, startled when I didn't see him there again.

Sighing, I went up the stairs, using the opportunity to look about the sprawling and imposing mansion.

Just as I reached the top of the stairs, I noticed Henry coming out from one of the rooms.

"Oh," he mouthed when he saw me.

"I didn't realize his men were allowed inside the house" I voiced out as I continued towards him.

He stuck his hands in his pockets and shrugged. "Which is why I'm not just his man, I'm his right hand" he pointed out.

"Yeah, I don't have amnesia"

"Correct, I'm allowed wherever I want except for a select few places in the house if that answers the question I know you have in your head" he quickly explained.

Oh, so Vincenzo trusted this one.

"Right and what are you doing here now? It's almost 7pm, shouldn't you be packing up and heading down to your quarters?" I asked.

Yeah, there was a goddamn quarters in this estate for his men so meaning I was surrounded 24/7 by 170 men spread across the property.

At least I think they were all men, they couldn't be any women, right?

"Oh yeah, Don Enzo and I were discussing something and I was just doing a general security check before I would head back to my designated space" he explained.

"Right, I'm not surprised by how paranoid you all seem like someone would dare to break into his house" I rolled my eyes.

"It has happened before" Henry suddenly said, his eyes traveling across my body discreetly then he looked back at my face, tilting his head to the side with pinched brows like he was thinking of something.

"Someone fucking broke in? So turns out this mansion is not as impenetrable as it seems" I laughed slightly, feeling a bit of mirth at the fact that even he has his own inner problems.

"I wish I could laugh with you, Mrs LaRosa but it was a gruesome thing, lost at least 50 men in that one. Biggest mob fight of the decade but luckily Don Enzo was able to get it under control" he said, a sigh escaping his lips.

A serene look crossed my face and I cleared my throat, feeling sheepish. "Sorry, I didn't know that so what are the chances of that happening again?"

"With Don Enzo, probably just a 1% Chance" he said confidently.

"You seeㅡ" I began to say when a sudden voice behind me made me freeze.

"Aren't you done with your security check? Out" Vincenzo who had appeared from around the corner suddenly said in that same gruff tone he had donned since Val had been here.

Henry immediately nodded and walked out of the mansion.

"I was just trying to get to know him" I rolled my eyes at Vincenzo.

Vincenzo crossed his arms and his lips twitched slightly. "Why don't we use this time to make some things clear? Hm, Tesoro?" Back to that deep Italian accent.

"What are we making clear?" I asked.

He suddenly turned around and started walking. "Room. Now"

"Excuse me?" I asked.

He looked at me with a frown but his eyes held some sort of amusement. "For someone who doesn't want to have sex with me, you sure think a lot of sex at the mention of a room" he said bluntly.

My cheeks heated up and my eyes widened. "Stop with the crude use of words" I said, my voice a slight tremble.

"Don't worry, Tesoro. A room isn't the only place where it can happen if it ever does" he pointed out

"It will never happen!" I quickly countered.

"If" he emphasized.

I didn't answer and he kept walking. "Semantics, Tesoro. Semantics"

Son of a bitch.
