Sold to the Capo

Chapter 6: ANOTHER WOMAN?

ADRIANA'S POV

The car ride was silent and I just sat transfixed in the car.

I wasn't even sure how I made it to the car, I was numb at the time when Vincenzo had made his minions pull me into the car gently but it was still against my wish.

How did it feel to know you were searching for your father and upon probing, you realized you had been sold to someone you hated but came to an agreement with?

This was so surreal that I could laugh.

Except I couldn't even bring myself to even feel especially when knowing that the person who had bought me was sitting right beside me in the car.

To say there was tension in the car would be an understatement. It clouded over his entire being. Anger.

The words from the office rang back to my mind after my earlier tirade.

I was shouting at him while tears streamed down my face while he just looked at me with the same look he had given me when we were in his house days back. Disgust.

He was utterly disgusted and he didn't bother to hide it this time.

"Get a hold of yourself, Tesoro. You're fucking weak" he spat.

I had scoffed at that

"Seriously?! Is that the only thing you could pick out from what I just finished screaming?!" I yelled again, almost raising my hand to slap him but stopping knowing I was asking for him to kill me by doing that.

He had scowled and forcefully grabbed my hand, leaning in close with anger flashing in his eyes.

"Let me go! You monster!" I panted, struggling against his iron grip.

"Listen to me, Adriana" he whispered harshly and that had made me freeze.

Him using my full name. I looked back at him and almost died from the pure anger that was in his eyes. There was a fire, the murderous kind but who it was directed at was the question. Did he think of killing me? I wouldn't be surprised and I wasn't even sure anymore if it would be a bad idea.

Maybe I did want to die. Maybe I wanted to kill myself. No, that's suicide, hell no. Maybe I wanted someone else to do the job for me.

His words from earlier rang out in my memories haunting me. "You're just as weak. One would think you had learned a thing or two over the years but clearly, you're still as naive. Do you think this is a fairytale?! Wake up! And don't you ever raise your voice on me, understood?" He wasn't shouting but I heard and registered his words pretty clearly especially as his bruising grip on my pale skin got worse.

Now we were sitting in the car, going back home. Home? No, it was a prison.

Why would my father agree to something like that? He loved me, didn't he? He did, the memories from the time spent with him rushed back and I shook my head. He had loved me, so why would he sell me out?

Was he threatened by Vincenzo?

My gaze fell on the man sitting beside him, his body stretched taut like a bowstring ready to snap.

It didn't seem too much to assume. He was that type of person.

As if he knew I was looking at him, he slowly turned to look at him and now as I looked into those hazel eyes, my heart jumped. The fire that raged inside them an hour ago had completely vanished. In its place was an emotion I had seen in people before. Emptiness. It was hard to catch on but I had spent my time around people like that, I knew when someone felt empty.

Should I feel bad? Yes. Did I? No. I felt happy actually, relieved that he was getting his own karma for accepting this twisted deal.

"What? Should I expect another stupid word vomit?" He said bluntly, seeing how I was just staring at him.

My lips parted then closed again before I frowned, feeling the familiar anger stir within me.

"You know what? You're a total dick"

"In more ways than one," he grumbled under his breath as he leaned back against the headrest.

"So none of this means anything to you more than word vomit?" I found myself asking.

He lazily turned his head to the side to look at me. "You? No"

"No, my words," I said, my eyes fixed on his bored ones.

He huffed and slowly turned back to face his front. "Yes"

I found myself scoffing at that. "So my words and I mean nothing but vomit. Wow, such a very beautiful way to welcome me into your twisted family" I said sarcastically but the humor didn't seem to affect him because his lips simply twitched slightly.

"Not you, Tesoro. Your words. It's word vomit" He said with a calm tone.

I scoffed again and looked out the window. "It doesn't make any sense if you don't know but I wouldn't blame you if you didn't know, after all, you were at the bottom of the class in high school. If my words are vomit then so am I. It's a simple equation" I said matter of factly.

I didn't want to turn back to look at him but I could feel his gaze on me, sizing me up and undressing me in his head probably.

God, what was I thinking coming back here? I was happy where I was but no, I just had to come here and find myself trapped in the world I had so desperately tried to escape from.

"Your words are the vomit and if you say you are too, that's your business," he said bluntly without any form of remorse. "It would be good if you put any energy of yours into doing things instead of just talking shit. You seem a lot more sensible when you're silent but when you open your mouth…" he paused but I understood.

He meant my brain suddenly went on leave. I wanted to laugh, cry, scream, curse but I had no time for that because the car stopped and Vincenzo got down and waited for me to get down

I struggled out of my side and scoffed at him. "So much for being a gentleman", I said, trying to match his steps as he walked into the Mansion while his men bowed to him.

How was he so used to this? It was creepy. But of course, he was the ruthless mafia and I was the unfortunate person who just happened to be married to him.

"I never claimed to be a gentleman and don't expect me to ever be," he said simply, closing the door behind me.

I didn't answer him, my gaze was fixed on the young woman standing in his living room, pacing about but stopping on seeing us.

Her beautiful face contorted into one of anger and she stepped forward, ignoring me, and hit him on the chest.

He was clearly not paying attention at first because his eyes flashed at the unexpected hit but the hit did nothing to make him even teeter.

"Val…" frustration edged his tone.

The woman looked at me and her eyes widened. "Seriously?! Vin?!"

Oh… he had another woman?
