So I'm John Lawrence's son

Chapter 13: Capítulo 13"The Costume Party

A few days had passed since Jack and Tory's encounter on the rooftop. Their shared secret, the palpable tension between them, lingered like a dormant spark. But life went on, and for Jack, that meant training relentlessly. Every day, he dedicated himself to perfecting his street fighting style—a brutal mix of quick strikes, improvised dodges, and surprise counters, skills the streets had taught him to survive. There were no rules or katas, just instinct. Jack was stronger, more agile, but still oblivious to the gossip at school, focused on his own demons and those that haunted him at the dojo. In the meantime, he spent hours beating sandbags tied together in an abandoned warehouse, taking out his anger and frustration with each blow.

The day of the costume party arrived, and Jack reluctantly donned his Spider-Man costume. The mask hid his face, but the tight suit highlighted the defined muscles that had been the result of hours of training and discipline. He looked at himself in the mirror in the school bathroom, almost laughing at his own reflection. At least no one will know it's me, he thought, adjusting his mask and feeling a little ridiculous in the skintight outfit.

The event hall was transformed into a sea of color and sound. Strobe lights flashed in time with the loud music, while costumed students danced and chatted excitedly. The air was thick with the sweet smell of drinks and snacks, a combination that made Jack a little nauseous. He entered quietly, trying not to attract attention, but his imposing posture beneath his red and blue suit soon drew curious glances.

It was then that he saw her. Sam was dressed as a cheerleader, a vibrant contrast in the crowd. The short, colorful uniform showed off her slender legs, and the pompom she was waving playfully seemed to mesmerize Jack. She laughed at something Moon had said, and the sound made his stomach turn. Damn, she looks so beautiful in that outfit, he thought, swallowing hard. Sam looked like an unattainable goddess, and Jack felt like a boy again, lost in his own feelings.

Sam spotted him and walked toward him, her smile a mix of teasing and curiosity. "Hey, Spider-Man!" she called, twirling her pompom. "The costume suits you. You almost look like you were born for it," she said, teasing him. Jack wondered how she had recognized him, since he was wearing a mask. Was it his physical appearance? The way he moved? Or maybe there was something else, an invisible connection that linked them?

Jack raised his hand in an awkward salute, the mask hiding his flushed face. "Hey, cheerleader..." he replied, forcing a casual tone. "You rocked it, huh?" He didn't want to seem nervous or impressed, but Sam's presence made him feel awkward.

Sam laughed, moving closer until he could smell her perfume—sweet, like ripe strawberries. "You're different, Jack," she whispered, playing with his mask. "Not like the other boys. You're like a tiger…calm but dangerous." There was a challenge in her voice, an invitation for him to show her true self.

Jack froze. What the hell am I supposed to say to that? he thought, his heart beating faster. He wasn't used to this kind of interaction, and Sam's words left him disconcerted. "Well, tigers are lonely too," he said, his voice coming out hoarser than he would have liked. He cursed himself for stuttering, but he couldn't help it. Sam made him nervous, and he didn't know how to deal with it.

Sam laughed, but before he could respond, Moon appeared beside them, dressed as a cheerleader who looked exactly like Sam. The resemblance between the two was uncanny, as if they were twins. "Spider-Man, huh?" Moon said, biting her lower lip. "Want to dance? I think you have… skills I'd love to see." There was mischief in her eyes, a promise of fun and danger.

Jack took a step back, feeling sweat dripping beneath his mask. He didn't want to get involved with Moon, but she intrigued him in a way he couldn't explain. "I... uh... need some air," he stammered, escaping into the hallway. "Sure," Moon replied with an enigmatic smile. She followed close behind him, making Jack even more nervous.

Meanwhile, in another corner of the party, Miguel, dressed as a skeleton with a black shirt and spray-painted bones, tried to blend in with the crowd. His eyes fell on Eli (dressed as a necromancer with a purple cape and a cardboard "spell book") and Demetri (dressed as a plastic surgeon, with a surgical mask and a lab coat stained with red paint).

"Hey, skeleton! Come here!" Eli waved, holding a glass of soda. "I like the costume," Demetri said, pointing at Miguel. "Classic, but effective."

"Thank you! And you… are you a wizard?", Miguel asked, confused.

Demitri rolled his eyes. "I'm a necromancer! I control the dead, man!" he explained, holding up the fake book. "Eli's a surgeon. He said he fixes lips…"

Eli lifted his surgical mask shyly: "Only if you pay in Bitcoin." The three of them started laughing after that.

The conversation turned to games, and when Miguel mentioned Shadow of the Colossus, Eli nearly spilled his soda. "Finally someone with good taste!" he exclaimed. "This game is art! Demetri here only plays FarmVille."

Demetri shot back: "At least I'm not crying because the Dark Souls boss killed me 50 times!"

The atmosphere between them was light and fun, a breath of fresh air amidst the tension of the party.

Jack, still reeling from Moon's flirting, was intercepted by her in the hallway. She ripped off his mask before he could react. "I knew it was you!" she said triumphantly. "No one else here has those green eyes…"

Jack tried to pull back, but Moon pushed him against the wall, her face inches from his. "I've had a crush on you ever since you knocked Kyler down and defended that kid," she whispered, running her fingers down his chest. "Do you want to know what it's like to kiss someone who really wants you?" There was desire and teasing in her voice, a promise of excitement and adventure.

Jack froze. "Fuck, I've never even kissed anyone. What now?" he thought, panicking. He felt like a fish out of water, lost in a world he didn't understand. "I… uh… I don't know…" he stammered, his face red with embarrassment.

Moon laughed, biting her lower lip. "Cute. But don't worry… I'll teach you." She leaned in, and before Jack could think, their lips met. The kiss was intense, with Moon leading and Jack trying to keep up. He didn't know exactly what he was doing, but he was determined not to run. "If I run away from a beautiful girl like that, what kind of man would I be?" he thought, trying to push away his insecurity.

Meanwhile, in a more private corner of the party, Kyler and Sam were talking. Kyler seemed to want to give her something, like a bracelet. The door burst open, and Daniel LaRusso's voice echoed through the hall: "Sam!"

Kyler quickly walked away, trying to appear casual, but Daniel's disapproving look was unmistakable. "It's not what you think," Kyler told Daniel, trying to defend himself.

"I know what I'm thinking, and I knew something was wrong when you didn't eat the tuna," Daniel replied, gesturing with his hands.

Kyler showed a bracelet she wanted to give to Sam, it was a lie, of course, but Daniel left there angry, and Sam also told her father not to talk to her anymore. The atmosphere became tense, and Sam felt embarrassed and angry at her father's intrusion.

Some time later, in the bathroom, Demitri, Miguel, and Eli were peeing. When Kyler and his friends arrived, they were teasing Kyler, who almost managed to get Sam to suck his dick. The three nerds tried to listen in on the conversation, and when Eli accidentally touched some lacrosse nets, they fell to the floor. Kyler and his friends noticed. Eli and Demitri ran away, but Miguel stayed and was beaten by Kyler and his friends. They left him there on the floor suffering...

"You're trash, Diaz!" Kyler yelled, spitting in Miguel's face. "Stay away from Sam, understand?"

Miguel curled up on the floor, feeling the pain and humiliation consume him. He didn't understand why Kyler hated him so much, and fear paralyzed him.

Sam, who had returned to the party after the incident with her father, saw Jack and Moon kissing in the hallway. Her eyes widened, and a wave of jealousy hit her like a punch to the stomach. "Why does this bother me so much?" she thought, feeling her face heat up. She couldn't take her eyes off the scene, but before she could react, she returned to the party, furious and confused.

Back at the party, Yasmine and her friends were laughing at a video she had just posted online. It was an edited video of Sam's chubby friend Aisha eating a piece of cake. Yasmine had added pig sound effects and written "Oink Oink!" in the caption.

"Look, Aisha has become a celebrity!" Yasmine laughed, showing the video to her friends.

Aisha, embarrassed, tried to hide, but the laughter only increased. It was then that Jack appeared, still with the Spider-Man mask in his hand. He saw the video and immediately approached Yasmine.

"Delete that," he said, his tone firm enough to make everyone around stop laughing.

"What? It's just a joke!" Yasmine replied defensively.

"It's not a joke when it hurts someone," Jack snapped, looking directly at her. "Delete that. Now."

Yasmine hesitated, but under Jack's intense gaze, she finally deleted the video. Aisha looked at Jack gratefully, and he gave a discreet nod before leaving.

Sam watched everything from afar. She saw how Jack defended Aisha, how he was gentle and firm at the same time. Something inside her stirred, and she could no longer ignore the feelings she was developing for him, that jealousy she felt when she saw him with Moon.

"Why does he have to be so... different?" she whispered to herself, looking at Jack as he walked back to the party. The party had ended that way that night, with a mix of emotions and revelations.
