Chapter 15: What Do You Want to Ask Me? Because... I’m No Longer Alone.
"Ugh, why is it failing now, of all times?" Naruto looked at the toad under his feet with frustration. "It worked fine during training!"
But now, in this crucial moment, something had gone wrong.
Gaara's gaze was cold and filled with mockery as he stared at Naruto. Slowly, his body began to transform. Sand crept over him, covering his entire upper body until he looked more like a monster than a man.
"Comrades?" Gaara's voice dripped with disdain. "Ridiculous. I fight... for myself alone!"
Naruto couldn't suppress the growing unease in his chest. "Gaara's appearance... it's changing more and more. I feel like something big is about to happen."
"It's not just a feeling," someone nearby muttered grimly. "If we don't stop him now, the next thing we'll face is... Shukaku in his full form."
"The One-Tail... Shukaku of the Sand," another voice whispered with dread. "If he emerges fully, everything will be over. There's no way we can stop that level of power."
The tension spread across the ninja world. Everyone knew it: if Gaara achieved full transformation into Shukaku, Uzumaki Naruto would stand no chance.
"Naruto..." The group of young ninjas, the Twelve Guardians, watched anxiously, their eyes fixed on the unfolding battle.
"I will defeat him!" Naruto declared, his eyes locked on the sky, his fists clenched tightly around his resolve. He believed in himself. He had to believe he could win.
Scene: A Standoff in the Battlefield
Naruto and Gaara stood facing each other, their gazes sharp and unwavering. Naruto's eyes held a mix of caution and determination, while Gaara's were filled with scorn and contempt.
"That look in his eyes..." Naruto muttered.
"Sand Shuriken!" Gaara suddenly roared. The massive claw of sand forming his arm swept forward, hurling countless dense, sharpened sand shurikens at Naruto.
Naruto reacted quickly, grabbing onto Gamamaru and leaping into the air to dodge. However, without the Sharingan to predict movements, some of the shurikens grazed him. One hit particularly hard, sending Naruto crashing into a tree.
The ninja world watched the scene in tense silence. Their hearts sank. The gap in strength was too overwhelming. This battle seemed hopeless.
"Shikamaru, you're so smart! Think of a way for Naruto to win!" Chōji, stuck in a hospital bed after overeating, pleaded with desperation.
"This..." Shikamaru frowned deeply, his mind racing. But no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't find a solution. The difference in power was too great. Except... for the Nine-Tails.
But even that was risky. Gaara wasn't even fully transformed yet. If he reached his complete form, Naruto would surely die.
Back on the battlefield, Gaara gazed down at Naruto with derision. To him, Naruto was insignificant—barely worth the effort to crush.
"Is that all you've got, Uzumaki Naruto?" Gaara sneered, his eyes narrowing further. "So weak. So pitiful."
Naruto, breathing heavily, looked back at Gaara. In Gaara's lonely, hate-filled eyes, Naruto saw something familiar.
"His eyes..." Naruto whispered. "They're just like mine."
In that moment, Naruto realized the truth. Gaara wasn't just a monster. He was someone who had suffered just like Naruto had. A vessel for a monster, shunned and hated by the people around him.
Scene: Naruto's Painful Memories
A young Naruto stood alone under the setting sun. The villagers glared at him with disgust, calling him a monster for reasons he couldn't understand. He didn't know what he'd done to deserve their hatred. All he knew was the crushing loneliness that came with it.
The villagers of Konoha, watching the events unfold, fell into uneasy silence. Many of them wanted to argue back against what they saw. But they couldn't. The guilt in their hearts was undeniable.
They hated Naruto—blamed him for the Nine-Tails attack that had scarred their village. It was easier to hate him than to face their own pain.
"Why..." Hinata's voice trembled as tears welled in her eyes. "Why does everyone hate Naruto-kun? He hasn't done anything wrong..."
"I used to hate everyone..." Naruto's voice echoed in the sky. "I didn't know who I was or why I even existed. I didn't understand why everyone hated me so much."
The memory of Mizuki's cruel words replayed in Naruto's mind: "You're the demon fox that destroyed the village! You killed Iruka's parents!"
Learning the truth—that the Nine-Tails lived inside him—had been devastating. The villagers' cold glares only became sharper after that, and Naruto's pain grew deeper.
"Minato," Jiraiya murmured quietly, watching the scene from afar. "I wonder... do you regret your decision all those years ago?"
He clenched his fists. "Don't worry, Naruto. I'll protect you. I won't let the same tragedy happen again."
"Was it my mistake?" Sarutobi muttered from his office, staring at an old photo of Minato and Kushina. "If you must hate someone, hate me. Hate me alone."
Even Sasuke, watching the scene, felt a twinge of something he couldn't explain. "Naruto..." he muttered, his voice soft with unspoken emotion.
Scene: Voices of Friendship
Naruto's memories shifted to happier moments.
"Naruto, want to grab some ramen together?"
"You loser, if you want to beat me, you'd better train harder!"
"Naruto, has Sasuke mentioned me?"
"Naruto, eat some vegetables too. You'll die if you only eat ramen!"
Those small, kind gestures from people who had believed in him... They changed everything.
"It's because of them," Naruto's voice was firm now, filled with determination. "Because they believed in me, I'm not alone anymore."
Even with the Nine-Tails inside him, even with the villagers' cold gazes, those bonds kept him warm.
"Why?" he asked, looking up at the heavens. "Because I'm no longer alone!"
The ninja world fell silent, moved by Naruto's words. He had every reason to fall into darkness, to let his pain consume him. Yet he chose to be a light—a small sun that burned brightly against the shadows.
"He's like the sun..." someone whispered through their tears.
"Come to Kirigakure if you want friends!" another cried. "We'll accept you!"
