Sharingan Evolution: Proficiency's Path

Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Speculation

After parting ways with Kamijou Youichi, Seimei began tracking the three Sand Ninja chunin in the direction indicated by Youichi. Thanks to his familiarity with the area and the sharp insight of his Sharingan, he quickly found clues.

Following those leads, he finally caught up with them after half an hour. The group was still heading towards the E12 area.

Recalling Captain Tashiro Ukyo's ninja dog, Kiba, mentioning that there were many enemies in the E12 area, Seimei realized that E12 was the main target of the Sand Ninja's attack.

"But why have so many Sand Ninja suddenly appeared?" Seimei pondered, unable to figure it out.

He knew that whether it was the neighboring E12 area, their E11 area, or the surrounding regions, these all technically belonged to the second line of defense. It was understandable if a small infiltration team appeared occasionally, but for such a large-scale invasion like this, it seemed unlikely.

Unless…

"The front line has collapsed!"

The sudden thought startled Seimei, but he quickly calmed down.

If the entire front line had collapsed, the number of enemies here would not just be a few. It wouldn't only be the E12 area under threat; the entire region they were defending would be overrun.

However, Seimei hadn't seen any signs of that yet, meaning the front line hadn't completely fallen. Still, the number of enemies exceeded the size of an infiltration team, leaving only one explanation—several key strongholds at the front had been breached, causing a gap in the defense. The Sand Ninja likely exploited this opening to launch a surprise attack.

"Yes, that must be it!"

Although Seimei hadn't received any definite information yet, he felt his speculation was correct.

If that were the case, the Sand Ninja wouldn't be able to stay here for long. As long as the entire front line hadn't collapsed, the Leaf Village would still be capable of reclaiming those strongholds. When that happened, the Sand Ninja would have to retreat before they found themselves trapped.

With these thoughts, Seimei felt the unease in his heart dissipate, and his expression softened.

For him, maintaining stability was the best outcome. Time was on his side. The longer this dragged on, the stronger he would become.

As these thoughts flashed through his mind, Seimei raised his hands and swiftly performed the hand signs for "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu." His mouth opened, spitting out high-temperature flames, which immediately split into dozens upon dozens of fireballs.

With his increasing proficiency in this jutsu, the time it took for the flames to split into fireballs had significantly shortened. Now, the transition was nearly instantaneous. It seemed like the flames transformed into fireballs the moment they left his mouth.

This was a huge difference from when he first learned the technique. Back then, the fireballs appeared one by one, whereas now, his enemies had to face dozens of them simultaneously.

This small distinction greatly increased the difficulty for his enemies when they tried to dodge.

For the three Sand Ninja below, if they had been facing the earlier versions of Seimei's "Phoenix Flower Jutsu," they might have been able to escape unharmed.

But now? Without paying a hefty price, dodging Seimei's attack was impossible.

Sensing danger, the three Sand Ninja immediately went on alert. "Who's there?!"

Before they could locate Seimei's position, however, the countless fireballs rained down on them.

The speed and angle of the attack were so precise that their only option was to dodge. But to Seimei, their movements were full of openings. Without hesitation, he manipulated the fireballs to converge on them.

The first to be hit was a 17 or 18-year-old taijutsu specialist. Although fast, he wasn't fast enough. Caught in a crossfire of a dozen fireballs, he took two hits—one to the chest and another to the right arm, leaving him with scorched, blackened skin. He collapsed to the ground, losing his ability to fight.

The second to be struck was a young female ninja in her early twenties, who specialized in sound-based genjutsu. She narrowly escaped by using a substitution jutsu at the last moment.

As for the puppet master, Seimei focused extra attention on him. Despite having his puppets as a shield, he still took a direct hit from one of the fireballs, sustaining significant injuries. Even his puppet had suffered substantial damage from the barrage.

Within seconds, the fireballs dissipated, and the area fell silent again. The female ninja and the puppet master stood side by side, staring in the direction from which the fireballs had come, but saw nothing.

Their faces turned grim.

After a brief silence, the female ninja nodded to the puppet master, signaling something. In response, he quickly took out two earplugs and placed them in his ears.

The next moment, the female ninja began rapidly forming hand signs while slightly opening her mouth, preparing to unleash a sound-based genjutsu aimed at forcing their unseen attacker to reveal themselves.

However, before she could complete her jutsu, a figure suddenly appeared before her. Blood-red Sharingan eyes filled her vision.

"Sharingan? Genjutsu?"

Her heart raced, and she immediately attempted to break free from the genjutsu. But just as she moved, she felt her chakra draining rapidly, followed by a sharp pain at the back of her neck. Darkness swallowed her as she fell unconscious.

Her assailant was none other than Seimei, who had been watching from the shadows. Uncertain how well the Sharingan would resist sound-based genjutsu, he decided to act before she could make her move.

The process went smoothly. Using his mastery of the Body Flicker Technique and his stealth skills, he silently appeared before her. The female ninja, distracted by preparing her own jutsu, had no time to react and was instantly trapped in his Sharingan's genjutsu.

Afterward, it was a simple matter of draining her chakra and knocking her out.

During this time, the puppet master had been too preoccupied with escaping to even think about helping his teammate. Not that he wanted to. He knew exactly who Seimei was and how strong he was. The puppet master had no intention of sticking around.

Unfortunately for him, even though he didn't want to provoke Seimei, that didn't mean Seimei would let him go.

After dealing with the sound ninja, Seimei quickly drained the taijutsu specialist's chakra and knocked him out, then immediately pursued the fleeing puppet master.

The chase didn't last long. Even though the puppet master had prepared an impressive puppet as a trump card, it wasn't enough to hold off Seimei. Soon, he followed the fate of his two teammates, unconscious on the ground.

Looking down at the three fallen enemies, Seimei knew they had only been so easily defeated because his initial ambush had caught them off guard. If they hadn't been taken by surprise, the fight would have been much more drawn out. Their recent battle against the Leaf Ninja had also left them far from their peak condition.

But in the end, the main reason for their swift defeat was that Seimei's power simply outclassed theirs, leaving them no chance to mount a proper defense.

Of course, as enemies, Seimei had no sympathy for them.
