Shadow Slave: Regret Name

Chapter 3: Deterioration

The battle seemed to have reached its end. Kadey pinned down the boy with four different air platforms pressing down each of his limbs and penetrated a hole inside his chest with the knife he sneaked into battle and dismissed right after.

Kadey looked frustrated with burning rage pointed solely at the boy. "Just admit it, Rat-boy! Forfeit the match so we can end this here. I don't want to kill you for nothing!"

No one dared to interfere in their match simply because of how highly regarded the Ember Seraph clan are in the hierarchy.

Therefore, Kadey was allowed to get carried away in the heat of the moment.

The fight seems gleam and pointless with no purpose to go so far. But after the boy humiliated him in front of the entire crowd, he had to get a payback, that is the pride of a legacy. it doesn't seem like the boy has any chance of winning.

Suddenly, the body of the boy slightly moved, as if he just tumbled. A moment later, he raised his hand and grabbed the foot of Kadey. The air platforms dissipated.

The boy then pulls Kadey off balance, causing him to fall over again onto the pool of blood, making him look like a murderer, or the victim.

Kadey was watching in dread and panic as the boy rose slowly, stopping the blood with one hand. "How are you standing? Do you think you're better than me?!" The voice of the boy raised as stress and foggy judgement filled his mind. He rapidly picked himself back up on his feet.

However, this time, it was the boy's turn to charge on. With outstanding speed, he runs straight at Kadey.

Kadey barely managed to activate his ability in time to stop the momentum of his opponent's attack and prepare his own. Alas this time as well, his aspect failed to work, resulting in a full-on strike at his face, and knocked back onto his back.

The boy stepped closer, ready for more with murder in his eyes, looking down on the opponent, trying to raise up, like a predator inspecting his prey.

Kadey, meanwhile, seemed badly injured with a black eye and a bruise that would leave him with a bruise for the next few days.

Right before the boy could step any closer, a young pale man, with uncut long hair, enough to cover some of his face, and eyes with a taint of red stepped between them. His figure was slender but still relatively decent compared to the boy's figure. He looked around his seventeen's, but his expression showed much more than that. No one could have guessed what this man had to go through... even himself.

His plain sword, radiating a luminous dark aura resembled a bad omen like death itself, pointing towards the boy.

"That is enough."

...

Standing between their stand-off, I stopped the fight before things could escalate further. Luckily, I picked up some words and phrases from the commotion and chats from before.

However, the boy doesn't look like he's going to stop now. He stared at me dead in the eyes. He really is serious about hurting him. That's being said, I'm not backing away now.

"Move aside. He is mine." The boy said in a threatening cold tone.

"No." I replied. His Regret Spirit stands right between me and him, if he does step, the tip of the sword might pierce his throat.

"..."

The boy looked at me with murder in his eyes. He did probably plan on moving me off his way... or at least tried to. However, right as he advanced, he felt the touch of a cold sharp metal brushing his throat. A shallow cut appears on his neck and blood gushing out.

Sensing a hint of panic on his face as he was checking the cut on his throat, finding the blood leaving a trail on his fingers. The boy seems to heighten his alerts after failing to catch me move or activate any sort of ability he could negate. Causing the boy to raise his guard and feel endangered in the situation he's in.

'So, it seems he cannot just negate just any ability he wants.' Or at least anything he cannot see.

In addition, it seems like the last enchantment of the sword allows me to damage the spirits of people and synchronizes this damage with their physical body. Such enchantment is very unique and surprisingly fitting my aspect perfectly.

'What are the odds? My first nightmare must have been really special.'

That's being said, maybe he must understand how a certain aspect works in to disable it.

The boy still seems eager to fight, but before he managed to say or do something, the crowd made a way for the twins of Valor.

They observed the area and saw the legacy lay on the floor. Their cold and piercing expression faced us, giving out the impression they did not approve either of us. One of the twins approached us. 'I think his name was Gerard?'

"Which one of you is to blame for the injured Ember Seraph clan member?"

The boy immediately interrupted and replied without hesitation.

"It was me. I challenged him for flirting with my... partner. It seems things got out of hand, I'm sorry."

Without going further, the boy turned away and went back to his spot next to the girl with Gerard keeping his eyes on him.

Meanwhile, I decided to leave, as well, for it seems to be the safest option. And so, I followed the boy back to the bleacher.

The boy sat beside the girl, as I was returning to my seat, as well.

"Thank you." I heard a gentle soft voice resounding from the couple. Looking briefly and seeing the girl's delicate eyes tracing me before turning back to observing the entire place.

'The girl...'

Sitting down back in my corner, I tried using my dormant ability. I give a command to the girl's Regret Spirit to approach closer. Surprisingly, the spirit had put less resistance than I'd expected.

'Guess that is the ability of my aspect, after all. I have more control over the Regret Spirits than I anticipated.'

With the girl's Regret Spirit standing right next to me, I give it a gentle touch, aligning both our spirits. The girl showed an instant reaction of momentary trepidation which shortly after turned to flabbergast.

All the while the ceremony began, the lights dimmed, and the attention of the entire crowd focused on a small stage at the end of the hall.

Last thing I managed to see before the lights turned off is the girl facing me before a screen of black flooded both our eyes... and the lights of the stage turned on.
