Chapter 2: Carved hearts.
"Raya!!!"my name was being yelled as I walked into the dorm room. My roommates were so dramatic. We literally spoke this morning.
"Hi Bree! Hi Heather! Oh I missed you guys!"I squealed, jumping into their arms.
"Oh, it was Soo boring at home" Heather lamented as we all walked into my room. It looked exactly as I left it a month ago.
"So?" I said, dropping onto the bed. They both settled next to me. "Tell me about Nexa. You said he asked you out to dinner tonight?"
Bree nodded in agreement." She said yes!"
Heather rolled her eyes at Bree.
"Uh,do not give me that nonchalant attitude,Heather. You are literally in love with Nexa. You guys have been drooling over each other for months now. It was so disgusting". It was true. Those two met in class and I hate to say it,but it was love at first sight for them.
"Don't even get me started on the googly eyes!!" Bree cringed.
"Yes!! My Lord!! Those eyes they make at each other? We're not blind, you know" I turned to Bree for her agreement.
"They're so pathetic " she agreed.
Heather was watching us with an unimpressed look planted on her face. With a raised brow, she said, "Are you guys done?".
Bree and I smiled at her. "Yes, please!!"
After helping me unpack,we all decided to go out to eat.
We decided on getting dinner at Gander's. We loved eating there. Mostly,I just loved their sauce. It was the best. Made everything taste heavenly.
The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the group of boys sitting in our booth. That was the best spot here. As we ordered our food, Bree nudged me and whispered.
"Raya, that guy has been staring at you for a while now. I think he might be interested". She looked at the direction of the booth.
I followed her gaze to find a guy, a little bit older or maybe not, staring at me. He just seemed much more confident than any guy our age.
He had black hair that looked like a hand ran through it too much. He looked uninterested and also curious as he stared at me unabashed. His friend said something to him that made him look away.
"I don't think so" I said to Bree as we took our food across the diner.
As we sat to eat the food, I could still feel his gaze on me. What was this guy's deal anyway?
"Has Heather texted you yet?" I asked her as she was trying to push ketchup out of it's bottle to no avail.
She scoffed. " I doubt we would be getting any text soon. They're probably sucking each other's face off somewhere.
I winced. Bree could be uncouth when she wanted to be . Or maybe I was just being a square.
"I did not need that description " I smiled.
"Whatever! By the way, have you heard from Henry?".
Hearing his name doused my mood. Henry was my stupid ex.
" Why would I hear from him?".
She dropped her fork with a loud clang. " I don't know. Probably to get a reason for the breakup?"
I hadn't told Bree and Heather the real reason for the breakup. I hadn't expected he would do such a thing. Truthfully,I was head over heels for him.
Now, all I felt for him was hatred and disgust at myself. I let myself be blind to all his inaccuracies and inadequacies.
There was a lot wrong with him.
If it wasn't for the NDA,he probably would have been talking about me every second he had.
"There's nothing between us anymore, Bree. I don't need to know why he broke up with me".
She stared at me for a while before throwing a fry at me. "When you talk like that, you seem all philosophical and mature".
I laughed at her. I turned to look at the booth where the boy had been but it was now empty. I couldn't help but feel disappointed.
I had wanted to at least know why he had been staring.
That night, while taking my pre-sleep social media tour, I got a notification for a follow request.
I clicked on it and it turned out to be the boy from the diner.
How had he found me?
Should I be flattered or worried?
Strangely,I wasn't worried. I accepted his request and followed him back.
