Chapter 2: Ren Sasaki

Chapter 2: Ren Sasaki

Zaner once again concentrated his mind on his aperture. This time, it didn't take as long as before; he managed to do it in only ten seconds, whereas the previous attempt had taken more than a minute.

But what he noticed next made him scream out loud once again, this time with an even denser essence of frustration.

"What level of shit luck is this?!"

Rank 4 is the realm of mortal Gu Masters, and those of that rank can already be considered as true experts among their peers. They can travel almost unhindered in the Southern Border region, moving with a sense of authority and command.

The mere presence of a Rank 4 Gu Master commands respect and attention wherever they go, as their power and abilities are well-known and feared by many.

A Rank 4 Gu Master in small and middle-sized clans can be considered a patriarch-level character, holding significant influence and respect. Such individuals are often looked up to as leaders and protectors, guiding their clans with wisdom and strength.

Even in a big clan, a Rank 4 Gu Master is at least considered an elder-level character, possessing substantial power and responsibilities that come with their rank.

And Zaner was that expert, that patriarch-level character who is only below Rank 5 in the mortal realm. The strength of Gu Masters comes from the use of different kinds of Gu worms, as well as their battle experience and fighting style. But the thing that matters the most is the Gu worms.

They are the source of a Gu Master's power, enabling them to perform incredible feats and exert their dominance in the world.

But... But... when he looked under his aperture, all his Gu worms were dead, floating lifelessly in the primeval sea, devoid of any spirit. The sight was disheartening, as the lifeless Gu worms represented a significant loss of power and potential.

"Uhhhh... why! What the fuck happened? Why are all my Gu worms dead? Did my transmigration cause some anomaly, or did the previous body holder not feed them properly? Nah... who would be that stupid, not to feed Rank 4 Gu worms? Gu worms of Rank 4 are very precious and already hard to purchase," he thought frantically, his mind racing with possible explanations for the unfortunate situation.

"Forget about that; how will I explain this to others? It's not a small matter, as Rank 4 Gu worms don't grow on trees. Maybe they actually grow... Nah... I am going insane," he muttered to himself, the frustration clearly evident in his voice. The thought of trying to explain the situation to others added to his growing anxiety.

"Calm down... calm down... I need to visit the Clan Pavilion next. They will feel suspicious if I go there with this expression," Zaner tried to calm his breathing and did his best to make his face cold and emotionless. He knew that maintaining his composure was crucial to avoid drawing unwanted attention.

He slowly opened his door and walked out of the room, his face expressionless, but his thoughts still in chaos. Zaner slowly headed towards the Clan Pavilion, trying his best to walk with the vigor of a mighty and proud clan leader.

Each step he took was deliberate, as he tried to project confidence and authority despite the turmoil within.

Zaner clearly didn't know where the Clan Pavilion was; he was just heading wherever his legs took him.

"I don't have a single piece of memory from the previous body holder, but somehow the language of this world feels so familiar that I feel like I have been speaking in this same language since my very birth," he mused, marveling at the strange familiarity of the language.

"Fuck... why is this so hard!" He accidentally fell to the ground. It was still too hard for him to manage himself in this new body, especially with this new set of clothes. The unfamiliarity of his new body and the cumbersome clothing made even simple movements a challenge.

"Did anyone see me? Huh, huh?" he quickly got up and rolled his eyes, letting out a long sigh as he realized no one saw him.

Everyone was busy with their own tasks, either cultivating or conducting business. No one had so much spare time to notice a young man falling. But even if someone did notice him, they didn't dare to laugh or do anything, they just ignored it and continued their work.

After aimlessly wandering for some time, he finally stumbled upon an impressive, large bamboo house with the words "Clan Pavilion" boldly inscribed above the entrance. With deliberate slowness, he entered the hall, doing his utmost to project an air of vigor and confidence.

"Oh... the esteemed Clan Leader has finally arrived," echoed through the hall as everyone turned to face him and bowed in respect. The elders, too, rose from their seats and greeted him with reverence.

However, not everyone was pleased with his arrival. An elder, seated just below the leader's chair, fixed Zaner with a look of utter confusion and fear, "How can he still be alive!" he thought, his mind racing.

Zaner, taking heavy steps, slowly made his way to his seat in the center of the hall and settled himself down, methodically scanning everyone with his penetrating gaze.

No one dared to meet his eyes; every head was bowed in deference. "Ahh... this feels so great," he exulted silently in his heart.

"Alright... now that the respected Clan Leader has arrived, let us commence our judgment," an elder announced, a tinge of frustration evident in his voice.

Although everyone already knew the purpose of the meeting, the elder took it upon himself to remind them once again. This judgment meeting was convened for fellow rank 2 female gu master, Ren Sasaki, who stood accused of being a spy for the Du clan.

...

Ren Sasaki was surrounded by Gu masters on all sides, preventing her from making any rash moves. According to the information he had gathered from various conversations, she was suspected of having leaked secret information about their clan to the enemy clan.

The evidence against her was nearly conclusive, yet she had not been executed. Exposing secret information to one's enemies is the gravest sin a clan member could commit. Under normal circumstances, a traitor would be declared a sect traitor and either subjected to torture or executed without delay.

However, the situation was anything but normal because Ren Sasaki was the granddaughter of the esteemed great elder of the clan, Ren Zeng. This great elder was also the leader of the most powerful faction within the clan, a faction strong enough to rival the Clan Leader's.

Despite the damning evidence, Ren Zeng refused to believe his granddaughter's guilt, insisting that she had been wronged. Even if she had committed the betrayal, he argued, she was just a novice cultivator and deserved forgiveness. Due to Great Elder Ren's considerable influence, Sasaki's execution had been delayed repeatedly, leading to the current predicament.

Zaner directed his attention to the girl at the center of today's judgment. She was undoubtedly a beauty, with her milky white skin, white silvery hair, medium height, well-built physique, and that stubborn expression.

However, something was amiss with her demeanor. In such a dire situation, any other young girl would likely be either crying or, at the very least, visibly nervous. But she showed no signs of anxiety; her expression was calm and devoid of any emotion.

"Hmm... interesting, a demon..." he mused, sensing an air of Bai Ning Bing about her.

However, his mind was too preoccupied to dwell on it. "What should I do... What should I do?... I will be easily exposed if someone close to the former body holder speaks to me. What would Fang Yuan do in this situation?" he pondered, his thoughts racing.
