Chapter 8
In the afternoon, when she was building up her strength with a good breakfast, Eshika got dressed and put on her dress when Kallian suddenly called her.
The red dress she wore from her parents’ house made her beautiful figure stand out like a captivating rose, despite her age.
“You are so beautiful…I think you’re getting prettier and prettier.”
Sella was impressed as she arranged her lace.
Of course, as her qi’s energy circulated through her body and the waste accumulated on her skin was expelled, her skin was bound to become clear.
“Did you call me? Your Majesty the Duke.”
Eshika pursed her lips as she stood behind Kallian, who was waiting for her at the table set for tea time.
It was better to have an uneventful breakfast than to have tea with someone she didn’t like, but it was better not to make a scene when she was unprepared.
‘I’m going to toss them like grasshoppers on a griddle anyway, so there’s no hurry.’
“…..”
Kallian slowly turned his head toward Eshika.
And then he stopped and looked at her for quite a long time.
It was Eshika Klaus, but somehow, from her eyes to her figure, it felt subtly different.
Her silver hair fluttered in the warm wind, her skin had a rich complexion, and her blue eyes under her dark eyelashes were shining like jewels in the sunlight.
“Please sit down.”
As Kallian spoke, Eshika sat across from him.
And she looked at her Kallian without lifting her teacup.
In the heavy silence, Kallian felt a strange sense of discomfort as he looked at her.
“You only drink tea with your close friends, it’s too much. I always want to be by your side.”
The round eyes that widen a little exaggeratedly whenever she’s near me, and the nasal snarl.
Even the smallest mistakes that don’t fit into the code of conduct..
Tea time with Eshika was always exhausting, and listening to her babble on and on about things I wasn’t interested in was torture.
“….”
But now, Eshika was looking at me without saying a word of greeting, creating an awkward atmosphere again.
With indifferent eyes, as if asking, ‘What is your business?’
‘That couldn’t be possible’ Kallian thought.
“How are you feeling?”
“I’m feeling better, but I think I need more rest than before.”
Eshika put emphasis on her word ‘relax’.
It means, ‘I need to get enough rest, so I don’t want you to summon me again.’
Kallian, who took those words without much meaning, pursed his lips.
“The reason I asked you to have tea with me today is to warn you.”
Kallian actually didn’t want anything to do with Eshika.
However, he felt uneasy after seeing Yurie shed tears last night, saying that she was distressed by Eshika’s mistreatment.
There was no guarantee that the vicious Eshika wouldn’t take one glance at Yurie and slap her cheek again.
“A warning?”
In response to Eshika’s question, Kallian suppressed her growing irritation little by little and continued his words.
“I hope you will refrain from saying or doing anything that would tarnish Klaus’ reputation.”
“Please refrain from speculation, my lord.”
“….”
Eshika looked at Kallian with an icy gaze, but Kallian wasn’t looking at her.
He spat out words bluntly.
“Hope only makes you suffer.”
“Our relationship is nothing but political.”
Soon Kallian poured the cooled tea from the teacup into his mouth.
“You just have to fulfill your duties as a duchess.”
Eshika was just staring at Kallian with an expression that didn’t seem to have changed at all from before.
He expected her reaction to be either begging for her love like she always did or swearing at Yurie, but it was neither.
Instead it was…
“Foot.”
The corners of Eshika’s lips twitched upward, and she burst out laughing.
She gulped several times, as if she’d just heard a really funny story.
The tips of Kallian’s eyebrows twitched as he looked at that scene.
“You didn’t listen to me.”
Kallian’s brow furrowed as he realized he had wasted his time.
This laugh is just to get my attention.
Any moment now, she’ll change her demeanor and demand that I confess my relationship with Yurie.
Her face turned red and blue, and her eyes were filled with tears.
She is really crazy compared to her friend.
However, Eshika still did not hide her smile.
“……..”
She laughed long enough to make Kallian feel strange.
After a while of laughing heartily, Eshika opened her mouth again.
“Your Majesty the Duke is truly a good person.”
Eshika judged that Kallian had a stubbornness that would not bend even if it broke.
Because of his pride that came from his temperament, she despised Eshika even more because she had become her wife with money.
Yurie wore Kallian’s ‘Arlette Ring’ and provoked Eshika, but it was all a calculated move.
Eshika rushed in to confirm the truth, because she knew how Kallian would look at her.
Her manly heart burns in earnest in the face of obstacles.
“As the Duke said, I will only focus on my duties as a duchess.”
And at Eshika’s next words, Kallian’s eyebrows twitched.
“If the business is finished, can I leave?”
“….… !”
Unexpected answers and questions flowed out. The business is over.
Kallian looked at her, feeling uncomfortable for no reason.
Eshika’s cool blue eyes held a relaxed glow he’d never seen before.
“With our current relationship, I feel like even this conversation is a waste of time for both of us.”
Eshika’s lips curled coldly.
Kallian felt even more frustrated.
Today, she feels unfamiliar, as if she is not Eshika, as if she has another person inside her.
Eshika looked at Kallian, who was staring at her, and lifted her teacup with a noble smile.
She sipped her tea leisurely.
Kallian couldn’t understand this attitude.
“I’m glad you enjoyed the flavor of the tea, at least….”
He heard Eshika set her teacup down.
“I’ll get up now, I still need to rest from my injuries from back then.”
Eshika Klaus, the woman who had never once gotten up first in front of me.
She always begged for my love, followed me around like a pest, and even after I left, she stayed there for a long time.
However, when Eshika rose to her feet, there was no evidence of unpleasantness in her eyes.
Her dark eyelashes that sparkle in the sunlight cover her indifferent eyes that seem to be looking at common and worthless stones, not the jewels she always wanted.
