Chapter 62: The breakfast club Part 2
The red-haired guy spoke. "Okay okay okay, now check this out." His body then hardened, becoming jagged and sharp like that of a rock. "That's my quirk, I can harden myself into rock."
A brief thoughtful intelligence flashed in Dante's eyes before disappearing. "Wow, that's so cool." Dante freaked and praised. "That's mean like you're totally impenetrable, right?
"Yeah." The red-haired boy nodded proudly.
"That's nothing, look at my quirk." The blonde-haired boy spoke up, creating sparks of electricity in his hand. "I can easily generate and fire electricity."
Dante reacted again just losing his mind at this point. This began a nonsensical conversation between the 3 comparing the two quirks to judge which was better.
Calvin sat there listening to the conversation, he looked at Dante interacting with the two boys as though they were childhood friends. He couldn't help but admire, Dante seemed to possess the uncanny ability to connect with everyone he met. No matter how different they may be, smart or dumb, old or young, weird or cool. It didn't matter Dante could find an inroad with them.
He looked to the side and spotted the other boy who came with the blonde and red-haired boy, quietly eating his food. Calvin observed his birdlike head and beak concluding that he had a bird-related quirk. The two shared a nod before returning to their meal.
At this point the noisy conversation between Dante and the two boys attracted the attention of Lida who came over to reprimand them for boisterous interaction, only to be forcibly pulled into a conversation about who had the best quirk. The conversation began to mutate and spread. Expanding, pulling more and more boys into the mix, growing louder and louder by the minute.
The majority of the girls sat eating, conversing with each other at a low volume whereas some left, embarrassed at the stupidity of the boys of their classes.
However, the lively atmosphere of the canteen allowed the students to relax and take the chance to get to know one other, forming friendships. Dante tried his best to get to know everyone while dragging Calvin along.
Finally, after their last lesson, the school day ends. "Bye, Dante. Bye, Calvin." Shouted a classmate in the distance waving off the two.
Calvin and Dante returned the wave and walked to their ride home. A black luxury SUV built for comfort and hopped into the backseat to be driven home.
They lived together in a spacious villa away from the city but close to their school. They didn't live with Dante's parents because Rukia was schooled in a safer city with a lower crime rate and his parents were contemplating her schooling in Europe.
So their parents decided since Dante was used to taking care of himself and had proven good at it, they would stay with Rukia to give Dante and Calvin space to spread their wings. They lived in the villa with Nanao who was there to oversee the staff and Dante's business.
On the ride home Dante asked, "So how did you like your first day at school? Was it what you expected?"
"No, not really, aside from a few instances it was more boring than expected." Said Calvin.
"What! Boring?" Dante exclaimed. "That isn't what I saw. I seem to recall someone smiling like a maniac."
"That never happened." Calvin casually rebuffed.
"Okay, batman." Dante joked. Failing to get a response he probed "Get it? Cause you're are all broody and like 'I never smile'."
"Oh, I thought it was because I was an orphan." Calvin expressed.
"Oh damn, my bad. I forgot about that." Dante said in horror.
"How do you forget something like that," Calvin questioned worried.
"I don't even know." Dante cried out loud.
"I don't know calling an orphan Batman. There might actually be a special place in hell for you." Calvin said with concern.
"Really? Kal you know I didn't mean it." Dante cried again, shaking Calvin.
The driver who heard the entire conversation took a glance at the two friends from his rearview mirror and smiled at their friendship.
The two continued with their conversation mostly cracking jokes and talking about nonsensical topics till they reached their home.
At home, Dante and Calvin each went to their rooms to de-clothe and freshen up.
Later, Dante arrived at the living room to find Calvin watching the television.
"Yo, I just got a call from my dad asking me to come over. He sounded a little serious so I'm a bit worried." Dante informed.
Pausing the television. "What is everything alright?" Calvin asked.
"I don't know. He just called and ominously said we need to talk. Come home now. Then he hangs up on me." Dante said. "So, I'm going to pay him a visit AND HE DAMN WELL BETTER HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE." Dante cried out loud.
"Want me to come with?" Calvin offered.
Dante just sighed dejectedly "No, you and I both know the type of person my dad is. He's probably calling for some stupid reason."
Calvin nodded "Yeah, I know. I was just asking to be nice. You couldn't pay me to go... You remember the Easter egg hunt?"
Dante groaned, "Ugh, don't remind me."
Calvin laughed, "Yeah, that poor man."
Dante shook his head in embarrassment.
"Anyway, I'll get going then," Dante said walking towards the door, getting more depressed with each step. "You know, on second thought you could come with me?"He said to Calvin.
But Calvin responded by increasing the volume of the television and pretending as though he couldn't hear Dante's suggestion.
Finally, at the door, he took one last sad look at Calvin who was already getting comfortable and left.
