Chapter 118: A tiny sun
The barrier was up and running after three days. Under the meticulous control of Hope Spirit, all the water was drained from the shelter and it's facilities were soon repaired.
The light of the lanterns they used were too weak to travel far into the darkness and summon forth it's true horrors.
Once the shelter was ready, Bian activated the Emperical Aura, drowning the underwater world in an indigo light.
"That's odd, nothing is happening." Love Spirit said with a shrug.
Even after two hours had passed, no creatures were attracted to the moving shelter.
"So we were lucky the first time around." Bian said, withdrawing the Emperical Aura. Leaving it active cost too much energy, even with eight gene locks opened.
Bian recuperated after a few hours. He made it a habit to unleash the Emperical Aura periodically, to ensnared any super creature in the vicinity.
He was quite sure only super creatures and maybe a few sacred-blood creatures could survive at this depth of water with little oxygen and no sunlight.
After days of uneventful traveling, a light was seen ahead. Suddenly, sunlight spread through the water, illuminating the sea bed. Faith spirit groaned.
"Isn't it too early right now."
"This isn't me." Bian responded. He was at alert, ready to clash with whatever caused the phenomenon of light suddenly appearing in the depths of the ocean.
"Its getting brighter." Hope Spirit said.
Truly the environments were getting brighter and brighter. Colours soon couldn't be differentiated as the white light increased around them.
Swoosh!
In the distance, Bian spotted a shadow swiftly approaching the shelter. It was the size of a truck with thick, shiny scales covering its entire body. Its massive jaw was filled with razor sharp teeth as its streamlined body made a beeline for the shelter.
Bian was sure no one else would be able to see this creature for two reasons. The first was it was wickedly fast, it would cover the great distance between them in a heartbeat or two.
The second reason was because of the small coconut-sized sun attached to its head like the bulb of an anglar fish.
'Too fast and bright to follow with the naked eyes. Any other creature would be in danger.'
Just as the monstrous anglar fish had covered more than half the distance, a black pillar of light shot towards it from above.
The fish managed to dodge the beam at the last second, but the ensuing shockwave of the explosion was strong enough to daze it.
The moment Bian noticed the environment was getting brighter, he instructed the Ink Sun Dragon to move closer to the source of the light.
Before the anglar fish could recover it's bearings, another shot came from the Ink Sun Dragon.
It was only grazed by that shot due to its quick reflexes, but another shot came and then another.
Amazingly, the Ink Sun Dragon was feeding off the potent solar energy released by the Anglar fish and using that energy to attack it.
The Anglar fish was fast, it was the quickest creature Bian had met and yet it would face its demise because it encountered the wrong foe.
Bian purposefully instructed the Ink Sun Dragon to hold back on its attacks. If not it might have been blown to pieces.
After several blasts, the anglar fish was severely injured. Unexpectedly the white light on its head shined even brighter.
Instead of fleeing, the monster gave its all to blind all foes in the waters. Even the dongxuan sutra was interrupted by this massive flow of energy.
If the anglar fish was a shining spot in the dark before, that spot was now in daylight. It would be impossible to distinguish it from the surroundings.
The anglar fish actually had the audacity to attack the Ink Sun Dragon, knowing it could not be sensed at this instant.
"All tricks are meaningless before the Emperical Aura." Bian muttered as he summoned the golden vambrace blade. His body soon became a sculpture made of a single piece of jade.
With a newfound terrifying power bubbling up from within, Bian chased after the anglar fish.
Having leant Tide, a geno art that could allow ease of movement underwater since his time in the second sanctuaries. Bian had grown accustomed to fighting in the water.
The Ink Sun Dragon was ordered to retreat, yet the Anglar fish circled it, taking big bites out of its body.
Under the immense light released by the anglar fish, the injuries inflicted on the Ink Sun Dragon healed a moment after they were inflicted.
The Anglar fish had not seen the fearsome recovery of the Ink Sun Dragon. If it had, it would have surely fled in panic.
Swoosh!
Bian moved closer to the Ink Sun Dragon. Under the effect of the Emperical Aura, he could sense the situation without any hindrance.
The Anglar fish had also sensed his approach and was swiftly approaching him. It's speed was too great for Bian to dodge, so he didn't.
Closing his eyes, Bian curled up into a ball, like a baby in the womb. The thunder rune and the soul pillar had fused, diluting time to the extreme to prepare Bian for what came next.
Swoosh!
In mere moments not reaching up to a second, the Anglar fish opened its maw wide and swallowed Bian. Time seemed to slow down for him.
Right after he had entered the mouth of the Anglar fish, before it could squish him to oblivion. Bian sprung up from his foetus position and drew a perfect circle with the blade of the golden vambrace.
A beautiful golden arc was formed, neatly decapitating the head of the angler fish from the inside.
[Super Creature Radiant Reaper killed. The beast soul has been acquired. The flesh is edible. Eat the life essence to gain 0 to 10 super geno points randomly.]
[Type of Beast Soul of Super Creature Radiant Reaper: Weapon Add-on]
Bian deactivated the jadebody, while also dragging the body of the Radiant Reaper to the shelter. The blinding white light slowly faded, plunging the watery abyss to an inky blackness once more.
The Ink Sun Dragon had no need to resurface since the solar light from the Radiant Reaper had recharged it.
Bian was extremely satisfied with the function of the Soul Pillar this time. The effect of the thunder rune had not been lost, but enhanced by the Soul Pillar.
With it, he was able to perfectly time his attack and avoid certain death. Needless to say, without the body pillar, he would not have been strong enough to decapitate the Radiant Reaper.
He followed the same routine as last time, dragging the Radiant Reaper to the shelter and feeding it to the Strength Overlord after he had dug out its life essence.
Absorbing the life essence increased his super geno point tally by nine points. Slowly but surely, he was getting closer to maxing out all his genes.
"Bian, you've got to see this!" Hope Spirit called for him.
She led him to the geno tree where he saw six fruits growing instead of five. The tree had a green, gold, white and reddish-black fruit which were basic elements of wind, lightning, frost and fire.
There was a purple fruit which was the petrification fire used by Varkal and now a new blue fruit which should be sealing light used by the Destructive Shrimp.
Bian had tried enhancing the tree with blood from more creatures, but it did not work. Apart from the basic elements, the tree did not form new fruits from the blood of creatures, but it had formed one from the attack of the Destructive Shrimp.
Even if Bian was ready to evolve right now, how would wait a year for the fruits to mature. He could learn to make up for his lack of elemental diversified attacks using the fruits from the tree.
"Thanks for watching over it." Bian gave what he calculated to be a heartfelt thanks to Hope Spirit. If not for her powers speeding up the rate of absorption for the tree, it would have taken over three years for it to mature instead of just one.
Three years for a sacred geno tree to bear fruit was beyond unelivable and was only possible because of the life drops from the black crystal.
Said sacred geno tree had also been blessed by the mysterious rainbow liquid of Varkal's shelter which would boost the rank of its fruit to super.
Summoning the golden vambrace weapon of the Vermin Devil king. Bian augmented it with the weapon add-on of the Radiant Reaper.
A white halo surrounded the vambrace like the halos of the sun. The white halo made the vambrace warm but the blade was scorching hot.
Even without attacking, the sturdy material used to make the spirit hall turned red hot in the presence of the white halo. The blade of the golden vambrace was like a contained sun, capable of burning all beings to ashes.
"Brilliant and deadly... I love it" Bian gave a satisfied smile and unsummoned the weapon. With the add-on the strength of the weapon was increased by leaps and bounds.
Even berserk super creatures and Emperor spirits could be killed by the edge of the blade.
"A weapon add-on, is it possible?" Bian silently wondered. He checked the description for the Ink Sun Dragon again, just to make sure.
[Type of Beast Soul of Berserk Super Creature Ink Sun Dargon: weapon]
Bian held his breath and summoned the Radiant Reaper beast soul on the Ink Sun Dragon. The seven hundred meter beast was enclosed in a white halo, making its form visible from outside the shelter.
Bian commanded it to shoot a beam into the distance using half its strength.
Boom!
A huge explosion rocked the sea bed. The damage output of the Ink Sun Dragon had clearly increased, but that wasn't the reason Bian was gobsmacked.
Even without his connection to the Ink Sun Dragon, everyone on the shelter could see the creature which had reduced to half its size growing at an astonishing rate.
In half an hour or so, it would return back to its full size. This meant that even if the Ink Sun Dragon were to be resummoned, it would only take it two hours to reach its full height of seven hundred meters.
"The Radiant Reaper really did hold a tiny sun." Bian said amazed.
